🔥 When God Visits: The Fall of Great Men Through Disobedience
📖 Key Scriptures:
1 Samuel 15:22-23 – “Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice… for rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft.”
John 14:15 – “If you love Me, keep My commandments.”
Deuteronomy 28:1-2, 15 – Obedience brings blessing, disobedience brings a curse.
Isaiah 1:19-20 – “If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land...”
🌩️ Introduction:
When God visits, He comes with purpose—either to bless or to judge, to raise or to remove. But His dealings with men are often cut short or delayed by one fatal flaw: disobedience.
Disobedience is the satanic seed that dethroned Adam, destroyed Saul, scattered Israel, and brought even spiritual giants to ruin. It is not just “missing the mark”—it is an outright declaration of independence from God’s authority.
God’s visitation is not always preceded by drums and thunder—it is often a moment of instruction, a divine command, or a prompting of the Spirit. How we respond determines whether we rise or fall.
🧱 1. King Saul – The Rise and Collapse of a Crowned Vessel
📖 1 Samuel 13:8–14; 15:1–35
Saul was anointed by divine instruction, chosen to lead Israel in a season of spiritual transition. But his repeated disobedience to divine commands cost him his throne and the presence of God.
He offered sacrifice without waiting for Samuel.
He spared Agag and kept spoils under religious excuses.
He feared the people more than God.
> Result: God said, “I regret I made Saul king.” (1 Sam. 15:11)
He was rejected by heaven, even while still wearing the crown.
🔔 Lesson: You can still hold a title, wear a robe, and stand before men, but be fired by heaven due to disobedience.
🏃♂️ 2. Jonah – A Prophet Who Fled the Heart of God
📖 Jonah 1–4
God visited Nineveh in mercy—but Jonah ran in disobedience. He didn’t want God's compassion to reach his enemies.
He fled in the opposite direction.
Caused a storm for innocent sailors.
Preached reluctantly and sat bitterly.
> Result: He almost drowned and later became irrelevant to God's ongoing plan.
🔔 Lesson: Disobedience doesn’t just block your blessing; it stalls the salvation of others connected to your calling.
👑 3. The Rich Young Ruler – Chosen but Choked by Wealth
📖 Mark 10:17–27
Jesus visited him personally, offering a place in the divine company: “Sell all, follow Me.”
He obeyed the commandments but resisted sacrifice.
He loved his possessions more than purpose.
> Result: He walked away sad and was never mentioned again in Scripture.
🔔 Lesson: Disobedience can look like delayed obedience, but to God, it is rejection of divine promotion.
🧍 4. Lot’s Wife – A Backward Look in a Forward Move
📖 Genesis 19:17–26
In a moment of judgment and mercy, God sent angels to rescue Lot’s family from S***m.
Clear command: “Do not look back.
She obeyed the escape but disobeyed emotionally.
> Result: She turned into a pillar of salt, frozen in history and judgment.
🔔 Lesson: You can walk out physically, but still remain bound emotionally—and miss the fullness of God’s rescue.
👴 5. The Young Prophet – Killed by Careless Disobedience
📖 1 Kings 13:1–26
God gave him specific instructions: “Don’t eat, drink, or return the same way.” He obeyed—until an older prophet deceived him.
He trusted a lie over God’s clear voice.
Disobedience came through a religious voice.
> Result: A lion killed him. He died with his anointing, message, and promise unfulfilled.
🔔 Lesson: No voice—no matter how familiar—should override what God has said to you. Intimacy requires obedience, not popularity.
💔 6. Ananias and Sapphira – Hidden Disobedience in Revival Fire
📖 Acts 5:1–11
In the days of the early Church, God’s presence was tangible. Their disobedience wasn’t in action but in motive and deceit.
They lied about their offering.
They wanted recognition without surrender.
> Result: Both died instantly before Peter—judged in a day of glory.
🔔 Lesson: Disobedience, especially during divine visitation, brings sudden judgment. God defends His glory.
🕊️ 7. Samson – Strength without Submission
📖 Judges 13–16
He was a Nazarite, born through angelic visitation. But he persistently violated the terms of his consecration:
Slept with harlots.
Touched the dead.
Fell for Delilah.
> Result: His eyes were gouged out. He died a tragic death in enemy territory.
🔔 Lesson: When God visits and raises a man, disobedience exposes his secret and drains his strength.
👩🦰 8. The Five Foolish Virgins – Unprepared and Locked Out
📖 Matthew 25:1–13
They were virgins (symbol of purity) and part of the bridal party, but they neglected instruction and failed to prepare oil.
They arrived late and knocked.
The door was shut permanently.
> Result: “I know you not.”
🔔 Lesson: Disobedience is not always rebellion—sometimes, it is neglect, spiritual laziness, and unpreparedness.
🧑🤝🧑 9. Children of Israel – A Generation Lost in the Wilderness
📖 Numbers 13–14; Hebrews 3:17–19
God visited them with deliverance, cloud by day, fire by night, and angelic protection. Yet, they murmured, rebelled, and disbelieved.
They refused to enter the Promised Land out of fear.
Disobeyed God’s instructions over and over.
> Result: A whole generation died in the wilderness.
🔔 Lesson: Disobedience can delay a promise indefinitely — even after a great visitation.
🧠 Final Reflections:
💥 What Makes Disobedience Dangerous?
It attracts divine judgment (Isaiah 1:20).
It cuts you off from divine presence (1 Sam. 16:14).
It turns God's voice into silence (Amos 8:11–12).
It often begins subtly: through fear, pride, emotion, or compromise.
🙏 Prophetic Warning:
> “God is still visiting His people today—but He will not anoint rebellion. He will not empower compromise. And He will not promote disobedience.”
Let the Church rise in instant, complete, and joyful obedience. Every divine visitation must be met with a radical YES to God’s instructions.
🙏 Closing Prayer:
> Father, teach me to obey even when I don’t understand. Let my heart tremble at Your Word. Deliver me from every seed of disobedience—pride, fear, compromise, emotional weakness, and self-will. When You visit, may I not be passed over or disqualified. May I respond like Abraham, Moses, Mary, and Jesus—with a full YES. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
