If Jesus were you, who would he be?

Would Jesus love to be you? If not, there is a problem.

It is either you are not saved, or you are not yet a disciple- you are not following Him.

We cannot follow Him when we make the Church an end, when Sunday School becomes an end, when Fellowship Groups become an end, and Worship Services become an end. All these will end!

What we need is to make Discipleship our goal. Discipleship is a process that never ends, it is fluid, moving, active and a living vehicle.

Discipleship does not end because every disciple must make a disciple. For one major principle of discipleship is that, in our faith walk, we follow in someone's steps, as much as we leave footprints to guide others.

So join us as we learn to follow the footprints of our Lord Jesus, in words, lifestyle and power; and of those who have inherited the promise through faith and patience, while we strive to leave our footprints as guides for those coming after us.

God bless you in anticipation of your attendance.

METHODIST REFLECTION FOR TODAY!
TUESDAY 10TH NOVEMBER, 2020

THEME: Reward for Righteousness

PASSAGE: 2 Timothy 4:1-10
Read - Day: Heb 5-6; Night: Jer 34-36

The text for reflection today points to the service which Paul rendered for the expansion of the Kingdom of God among the Jews and the Gentiles. Apart from his epistles, Paul did more than any Apostle in preaching the gospel of Christ. He encouraged Timothy, his son in the Lord, to declare the whole counsel of God in season and out of season for the purpose of increasing the Disciples of Christ.

God has a purpose for calling preachers and bringing people to hear the Word. What God desires the Word to accomplish in the life of the preacher and the congregation is to correct errors in each person's life, rebuke where necessary and admonish us to take up new way of life. It is this that makes the Word of God to benefit us. Therefore the Word is to correct the errors in our lives and give us better and brighter lives.

If the Word of God preached addresses the ills in your life, do not see the preacher as your enemy; instead, ask for God's grace to amend your ways of life. If you allow the Word of God to correct the errors in your life, you will not fall prey to the false teachers, prophets, pastors, soothsayers, palm-readers that abound everywhere, and you will mature in faith. This will make you fulfill the command of the Great Commission. (Matt. 28:18-20, Mark 16:15-18, Luke 24:49, John 16:23 and Acts 1:8).

The righteousness of a Christian begins with the hearing of the Word of God and later being doer of the Word. The reward of Righteousness is the crown. Work for this as you partake in the Christian race. Apostle Paul was sure of receiving this crown when he died. Are you sure like Paul?

PRAYER: Gracious and Merciful Father, give grace to your Church to faithfully apply Your Word to members’lives in order to receive the crown of righteousness in the end, in Jesus' name. Amen.

THEME: Self-Examination 2

PASSAGE: 2 Corinthians 13:1-10
Read - Day: Heb 3-4; Night: Jer 32-33

A man went to see to his medical doctor to check his blood pressure. On his way there was gridlock. Before he got to the hospital, the blood pressure has reached an alarming state, and he was admitted at the Emergency Ward. When his condition was stable, the Doctor asked him: What household blood pressure instrument or machine do you have? He replied "It is in good condition" and the Doctor asked again. Have you used it to check your blood pressure? He said "No, Doctor." The doctor was angry and said" If you have used it, it would have saved you from emergency situation you find yourself. He then advised him that self-examination is important.

As self-examination applies to our health, likewise it is for our spiritual well-being. There are Christians who are busy with Church activities, but their faith is weak. They relied on the outward service, the office they hold, the honorific title they have without having genuine encounter with the Lord.

There are Ministers, too, who capitalize on pastoring, preaching, teaching and conducting services without examining the state of their spiritual life. Members only appreciate the cassock and vestments, when in the actual sense, the man /woman's anointing is neither effective nor corrective.

Self-examination in our Christian race is very important, that the situation we find ourselves may not result "emergency". We can have self-examination through personal meditation on the Word of God. Pray for renewal of anointing because anointing of yesterday may not be strong enough to encounter the challenges of today and tomorrow.

Is your Ministry as a Minister, officer of the Church or member making positive impact in the life of the congregation?

It is important to know that you can only examine yourself when your relationship with Jesus Christ is cordial.

METHODIST REFLECTION FOR TODAY!
SUNDAY 8TH NOVEMBER, 2020

THEME: Self-Examination 1

PASSAGE: 1 Corinthians 11: 27-33
Read - Day: Heb 1-2; Night: Jer 30-31

There is no a better way for one to be true to himself or herself than self-assessment in the mirror of the Word of God. Plato, the great philosopher, said, "Man, know thyself." A Yoruba adage says, “No matter how thick a darkness is, one would know what his or her own thought is ” Another one says “No matter how long a log of wood may remain in water, it can never be a crocodile”

Paul admonished the Church at Corinth on the right manner to partake in the Holy Communion. Holy Communion service is the highest service in the Church. It is a meal of covenant that binds Christians together. It is a meal that should strengthen bond of unity between God and Church members. It is meal for renewal of faith, vision and mission. Its origin is from the Lord and Saviour of humankind, Jesus Christ. Therefore, it calls for self inward assessment before taking it. It is not a meal that should be taken when you have malice against another person, or when you have moral corruption and hypocrisy or ulterior motive in the service of the Lord like Judas Iscariot.

One of the reasons why divine miracles are scarce in the body of Christ today is that of taking the Holy Communion unworthily without inward self-assessment. Preachers have burned out because their anointing, strength and energy are not renewed owing to the absence of self-assessment.

As you reflect on this text, examine the state of your heart. How do you stand in Christ? What is your relationship with your spouse, church member and your neighbours? Let the Spirit of God rule your heart and assess yourself with the standard of the Word of God, to know whether you are still in tune with divine dictates or not.

PRAYER: Eternal Lord, give me grace to always assess myself in the mirror of Your Word, in Jesus' name. Amen.

HYMN: MHB 393 I GIVE my heart to Thee.
