THEME: THE GOD OF ISAAC

MEMORISE: That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; Genesis 22:17

READ: Genesis 22:1 -18
1 And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.

2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

3 And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.

4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.

5 And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.

6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.

7 And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?

8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

9 And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.

10 And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.

11 And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.

12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.

13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.

14 And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.

15 And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time,

16 And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:

17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;

18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

MESSAGE
The God of Isaac is the God of laughter (Genesis 21:1-7). He is not just the God of laughter, but also the God of multiplication. Our Bible reading today tells us how God asked Abraham to offer Isaac as a sacrifice and how he (Abraham) was about to do so before God stopped him. God later on blessed Abraham:

…in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies. Genesis 22:17

How does He multiply? In Genesis 26:12-14, the Bible tells us that when Isaac sowed, in the same year, he had a hundredfold return. This therefore means that the God of Isaac is the God of a hundredfold returns. When you look at the last promise in Genesis 22:17, you see God saying that Abraham’s seed will possess the gate of his enemies. In those days, the gate was the centre of a city’s economy.
This means that when the God of Isaac is your God, you will become so prosperous that whether nations like you or not, they would have to do whatever you say.

It is unfortunate however, that many Christians are not this prosperous and this is because they are not like Isaac. When Abraham was going to offer a sacrifice to God, Isaac asked his father, “I can see the wood, I can see the fire, where is the animal to be sacrificed?” (Genesis 22:7). Abraham said God would provide the lamb. The moment Abraham started binding him, Isaac know he was the sacrifice. Abraham bound him and laid him on the wood, yet Isaac cooperated all the way. If he had decided to struggle just a little, he would have won because there is no way a man who is over a hundred years old can hold a teenager down. However, Isaac was ready to give himself as a sacrifice to the Most High God. Only those who can sacrifice their all can enjoy the kind of multiplication that the God of Isaac gives. Solomon sacrificed what no man ever did and God blessed him more that every other man. Sow a seed that will really cost you – a sacrificial offering. If you want to be so prosperous that you will control the economies and politics of nations, then nothing must be too big for you to give to God.

ACTION POINT
Give a sacrificial offering to a church , person or project that you are sure is for God.

HYMN 25: TO GOD BE THE GLORY GREAT THINGS HE HAS DONE
1 To God be the glory, great things He hath done,
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,
Who yielded His life our redemption to win,
And opened the life-gate that all may go in.

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the earth hear His voice;
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the people rejoice;
Oh, come to the Father, through Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory; great things He hath done.

2 Oh, perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,
To every believer the promise of God;
The vilest offender who truly believes,
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

3 Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport when Jesus we see

THEME: THE GOD OF ABRAHAM

MEMORISE: Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God. Exodus 3:6

READ: Genesis 17:1 -8
1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

2 And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.

3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,

4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.

5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.

6 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.

7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.

8 And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

MESSAGE
In the memory verse today, God introduced himself to Moses as the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. In Yorubaland where I’m from, the meaning of the name of a man gives you deep insight into the kind of person that fellow is. Thus, in order to get deep insight into who our God really is, we will be looking at this introduction more deeply for the next few days.

What is the implication of the fact that God is the God of Abraham? It means that He is a God of blessings (Genesis 12:1-3). In Genesis 24:34-35, Abraham’s servant said, “God has blessed my master greatly”. Also, the name “God of Abraham” tells us that He is a covenant-keeping God. Deuteronomy 7:9 tells us that He is a God who keeps covenants and we see that clearly in the case of Abraham because in Exodus 2:23-24, when the children of Israel were suffering in Egypt, the Bible says that God remembered His covenant with Abraham. This was even long after Abraham had died. Thus, in Exodus 3:6-12, God decided to do something about the liberation of the children of Israel from Egypt.

The God of Abraham is the God of blessings. Therefore, if you serve the God of Abraham, then you are entitled to the blessings of Abraham.

Somehow, some Christians are not enjoying these blessings. The reason may be linked to what God told Abraham in Genesis 17:1:
And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

God had made a covenant with Abraham for over 25 years, but it wasn’t until Abraham began to walk before God perfectly that it took effect. Genesis 21:5 tells us that Abraham was 100 years old when Isaac was born, just a little above 9 months after God told him to be perfect. Believe me honestly, if you start living holy, the blessings of Abraham will pursue and overtake you. Those ‘little sins’ you still commit will keep on hindering God’s promises from coming to pass in your life if you don’t stop them right away. Those little foxes are spoiling your vine; get rid of them now!

KEY POINT
Sin hinders the fulfillment of God's promises in the life of His children.

Standing on the promises of God.

Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Savior;

Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;
Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,
Standing on the promises of God.

THEME: DON'T GO BACK TO S***M

MEMORISE: As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly. Proverbs 26:11

READ: Hebrews 6:4 -8
4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:

8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.

MESSAGE
In Genesis 13, Abraham gave Lot the opportunity of choosing where he would settle. As soon as Lot made his choice, Abraham chose another place to settle in, so as to avoid their men fighting. The Bible says that Lot chose to settle in S***m because it looks attractive, like the land of Egypt. Note that Egypt was very well known for all kind of sins in those days. By Genesis 14, Lot had gotten into trouble; because he was living in S***m, he got captured along with S***mites when there was a battle. Abraham heard that his nephew had been captured, so he went after the army and rescued him. In Genesis 19, when God sent angels to S***m, who did the angels meet at the gate? Lot. If you made a wrong choice before and God rescue you, is it not foolishness to go back to that same mistake?

So people say you can backslide as many times as you want, after all, the prodigal son was received by his father when he returned. How many times did the prodigal son leave the house? He left only once. Thus, if you think that the story of the prodigal son is an excuse for falling into sin again and again, you are deceiving yourself. My prayer is that if you have made any wrong choice, the Almighty God will correct you today and give you the grace never to repeat your mistakes.

Lot went back to S***m and eventually lost everything. The following Scriptures tell us the end of Lot's children who are the Moabites and Ammonites:

And Moab shall be destroyed from being a people, because he hath magnified himself against the Lord. Jeremiah 48:42

Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will cause an alarm of war to be heard in Rabbah of the Ammonites; and it shall be a desolate heap, and her daughters shall be burned with fire: then shall Israel be heir unto them that were his heirs, saith the Lord.
Jeremiah 49:2

Proverbs 29:1 says the one who is often reproved but hardens his neck shall perish suddenly and without repentance. Be careful. If you have fallen before and God has corrected and delivered you, don't make a mistake again.

KEY POINT
Don't return to your vomit

HYMN 6: HO, MY COMRADES SEE THE SIGNAL
1. Ho, my comrades, see the signal, waving in the sky!
Reinforcements now appearing, victory is nigh.

Refrain:
“Hold the fort, for I am coming,”
Jesus signals still;
Wave the answer back to heaven,
“By Thy grace we will.”

2. See the mighty host advancing,
Satan leading on,
Mighty ones around us falling,
courage almost gone!

3. See the glorious banner waving,
Hear the trumpet blow!
In our Leader’s Name we
triumph over every foe.

4. Fierce and long the battle rages,
but our help is near,
Onward comes our great Commander,
cheer, my comrades, cheer!

THEME: LEARN TO PRAY AT NIGHT

MEMORISE: Arise, and let us go by night, and let us destroy her palaces. Jeremiah 6:5

READ: Matthew 13:24 -30
24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:

25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.

26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.

27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?

28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?

29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.

30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

MESSAGE
The night-time is a major time when enemies attack. Mathew 13:25 says:
But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.

When everyone else is sleeping, witches and wizards are holding meetings at night and launching attacks on souls and destinies. It would be dangerous for you to be sleeping at that time; rather, that is when you should be fighting. That is when you should be firing arrows at the kingdom of darkness.

In the Bible reading for today, the servant of the house owner slept all night, during which time the enemy was able to come and sow tares. It was in the morning that he realized that the enemy had tampered with his work. Many people wake up in the morning only to realize that the enemy had tampered with their work, lives or destinies in the middle of the night. Not I! I will fight at night and not allow the devil in at all.

When the servant went to report to his master that someone had tampered with his work, the master told him not to remove what the enemy had planted immediately. He had to live with the tares that the enemy planted until the day of harvest. He now had more work to do to ensure that he had a good harvest at the end of the day, and of course, the tares must have also affected the yield of some of his crop negatively. You work less in the daytime when you pray at night. It is better to stop the enemy from sowing tares at all than to engage in damage control after the tares have been sown.

Some people wonder why we hold programmes in the middle of the night. When we conduct those vigils, we are engaging in warfare. In Matthew 26:41, the Lord Jesus Christ told His disciples to watch and pray. He gave the instruction at night. Have you ever wondered why, in Acts 16:25-2, Paul and Silas waited until midnight before they began to pray and sing praises to God? They knew the effectiveness of midnight prayer and praise. Learn to pray at night.

KEY POINT
Make it a custom to pray regularly at night.

HYMN 22: SWEET HOUR OF PRAYER
1 Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
That calls me from a world of care,
And bids me at my Father’s throne
Make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
My soul has often found relief,
And oft escaped the tempter’s snare,
By thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

2 Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
The joys I feel, the bliss I share,
Of those whose anxious spirits burn
With strong desires for thy return!
With such I hasten to the place
Where God my Savior shows His face,
And gladly take my station there,
And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

3 Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
Thy wings shall my petition bear
To Him whose truth and faithfulness
Engage the waiting soul to bless.
And since He bids me seek His face,
Believe His Word and trust His grace,
I’ll cast on Him my every care,
And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

4 Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
May I thy consolation share,
Till, from Mount Pisgah’s lofty height,
I view my home and take my flight.
This robe of flesh I’ll drop, and rise
To seize the everlasting prize,
And shout, while passing through the air,
“Farewell, farewell, sweet hour of pray

READ: Ephesians 6:10 -18
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

MESSAGE
There was no war when Abraham was training his servant to fight, but the day came when he needed to rescue his nephew. By then, he had 318 soldiers to take to war. If you study the story of Abraham you would realize that he never had to fight another war afterwards, but that one time that he fought was worth all the preparation he had gone through (Genesis 14:14-16). David also didn’t start learning to use his sling on the day he slew Goliath. He had perfected its use long before that. He had been practicing how to use the sling long before he ever set eyes on the giant. You never can tell when you would need to fight; on that day, your victory will depend on whether or not you had been preparing. Ephesians 6:13 says:

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

You are to put on the whole armour of God so that you are able to stand in the evil day; be ready ahead of time.

The perfect time to prepare for war is when all is going well. That is the only time that you have to prepare anyway, after all, you can’t start at the war front. Is it at the war front that you would start learning to shoot a gun? Is it when a boxer is in the ring with his opponent that he would start practicing jabs and hooks? Read your Bible and memorise Scriptures now so that when you need to confront the devil tomorrow, you can say, “It is written” like Jesus did in Matthew 4:1-11. Pray hard now, so that if trouble were to arise tomorrow, you can easily decree and the storm would cease.

Some people wonder why we keep fasting again and again, particularly when all seems to be going well. I remember some years ago when I asked the people to fast for 100 days. Not long after that, a crisis broke out, I told my people, “Relax, no harm will come near you because you have already prepared; you’ve paid the price ahead of time”. Those who didn’t join us in our fast were eventually forced to still do so because there was fear all around.

KEY POINT
Make sure that you are spiritually fit so that you will not be defeated by the devil in future.

MEMORY VERSE
Therefore, the leprosy of Naaman shall cling to you and to your descendants forever.” So Gehazi departed from his presence, a l***r as white as snow. 2 Kings 5:27

BIBLE READING
20. When Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, “My master has spared this Naaman the Aramean (Syrian), by not accepting from him what he brought. As the Lord lives, I will run after him and get something from him.”

21 So Gehazi pursued Naaman. When Naaman saw someone running after him, he got down from the chariot to meet him and said, “Is all well?”

22 And he said, “All is well. My master has sent me to say, ‘Just now two young men of the sons of the prophets have come to me from the hill country of Ephraim. Please give them a talent of silver and two changes of clothes.’”

23 Naaman said, “Please take two talents.” And he urged him [to accept], and tied up two talents of silver in two bags with two changes of clothes and gave them to two of his servants; and they carried them in front of Gehazi.

24 When he came to the hill, he took them from their hand and put them in the house [for safekeeping]; and he sent the men away, and they left.

25 Then he went in and stood before his master. Elisha asked him, “Where have you been, Gehazi?” He said, “Your servant went nowhere.”

26 Elisha said to him, “Did my heart not go with you, when the man turned from his chariot to meet you? Is it a [proper] time to accept money and clothing and olive orchards and vineyards and sheep and oxen and male and female servants?

27 Therefore, the leprosy of Naaman shall cling to you and to your descendants forever.” So Gehazi departed from his presence, a l***r as white as snow.

MESSAGE
It is important to make the right choices in life, especially because one's children could also be affected by them. When the army that invaded S***m took Lot into captivity in Genesis 14:8-12, they didn't leave his children at home. The children were taken into captivity because their father made the choice to stay in S***m. Kora, Dathan and Abiram decided to oppose Moses and they died with all their family members (Numbers 16:28-33). Gehazi decided to follow Naaman to get some gifts, even though he knew his master would not approve. When Elisha cursed Gehazi with leprosy, he said it would be on him and his seed forever (2 Kings 5:27). In Daniel 6, when some people decided to plot against Daniel so that he could die in the lions' den, their children were not called to the meeting; however, when Daniel came out of the den alive and the king summoned those who plotted so that he could throw them in the lions' den, he asked that their wives and children suffer the same consequences.

It may interest you to know that the choices of your relatives and close friends also have an impact on you. Thus, when a relative is making wrong choices, warn him or her because when trouble comes, the fellow wouldn't be the only one to suffer. This is particularly true of your children. If your child is going the wrong way, warn the child and do everything in your power to ensure that he or she returns to the godly path. Proverbs 29:15 says: The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.
Even if a person does not suffer anything as a direct result of not correcting his or her child, such a person would still experience shame and this is a terrible thing. The elders say that one can get embarrassed once, but shame lasts forever. You don't want to live in shape forever just because you did not warm your child when he or she started going wrong. You therefore need to be very particular about choices your children make. Don't just leave them to themselves - guide them, while depending on the Holy Spirit to help you know which way is best for the child.

PRAYER POINT
Father, help me to guide my children to always make godly choices in life in Jesus name.

THEME: CONNECTED FOR FRUITFULNESS

MEMORISE: I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. John 15:5

READ: John 15:1 -10
1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

MESSAGE
The Bible reading for today tells us that abiding in Jesus Christ is the secret of bearing good fruit. This is why being born again is just the beginning of a life of fruitfulness; abiding in Jesus Christ in unbroken continuity is the secret of fruitfulness. How then can we abide in Jesus? John 15:7-8 says:

If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall be my disciples.

Here we discover three things: One, Jesus is the secret behind fruitfulness and without Him we can do nothing good. Two, abiding in Him is the attitude required of us to bear good fruit. Three, living by His words (teachings) is the practical way of abiding in Jesus Christ. He said, "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me..." (Matthew 11:29). Everyone is capable of bearing good fruit, provided the fellow comes to Jesus Christ through faith, living according to His word. John 8:31 says:..If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed.

God is the ultimate in all ways,even where fruitfulness is concerned. Whoever desires to be fruitful must be connected to Him. Psalm 23:1 says that those who follow God will not lack. John 10:9 further describes the blessings of those who connect with Jesus:

I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall go in and out, and find pasture.

All things work together for good to them that love God and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).

Beloved, these Scriptures above and many more confirm that if you are connected to God, your all-round fruitfulness is guaranteed. Are you connected to Him?

PRAYER POINT
Father, please keep me connected to You forever, in Jesus name.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Chronicles 5- 7

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A ADEBOYE

HYMN1: ALL TO JESUS I SURRENDER
1 All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give ;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.

I surrender all, ... I surrender all ; . . .
All to Thee, my blessed Saviour, I surrender
all. . . .

2 All to Jesus I surrender,
Humbly at His feet I bow ;
Worldly pleasures all forsaken----
Take me, Jesus, take me now.

3 All to Jesus I surrender,
Make me, Saviour, wholly Thine ;
Let the Holy Spirit witness
I am Thine and Thou art mine.

4 All to Jesus I surrender :
Lord, I give myself to Thee ;
Fill me with Thy love and power,
Let Thy blessing rest on me.

5 All to Jesus I surrender :
Now I feel the sacred flame ;
Oh the joy of full salvation !
Glory, glory to His name !
