Sermon by Apostle E A Ukeh
Topic: Walking into Grace
Text: Genesis 40:1-23
Bible References: Romans 5:1-2, Genesis 22:1-down
Introduction
Grace is not earned, it is received. To “walk into grace” means to step into the unmerited favor of God that is already available through Jesus Christ. In Genesis 40, we see Joseph in prison, forgotten by men but not by God. His story shows us how grace works in seasons of delay, disappointment, and divine positioning.
Romans 5:1-2 says, _“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.”_
We don’t stumble into grace by accident. We walk into it by faith, obedience, and trust in God’s timing.
1. Grace Meets You in the Pit: Genesis 40:1-4
Joseph was thrown into prison because of the butler and baker’s offenses against Pharaoh. He was innocent, yet he ended up in a place meant for criminals.
Point: Grace doesn’t wait for you to be perfect or comfortable. God’s favor often meets you in the pit, in the prison, in the place you didn’t choose.
Application: If you feel stuck, forgotten, or wrongly accused today, know that God sees you there. Grace is present even in confinement. Joseph interpreted dreams in prison because God’s grace gave him purpose even in a dark place.
2. Grace Gives You Purpose in the Waiting: Genesis 40:5-8, 12-13, 18-19
Joseph didn’t waste his time in prison complaining. He interpreted dreams for the butler and baker. He said, _“Do not interpretations belong to God?”
Point: Grace activates gifting and discernment even when your future looks uncertain. The waiting room is a training room.
Application: While you wait for your breakthrough, God wants to use you to serve others. Grace gives you eyes to see opportunities to minister right where you are. Joseph’s faithfulness in small things positioned him for national promotion in Genesis 41.
3. Grace Sustains You When Men Forget: Genesis 40:20-23
The butler was restored as Joseph predicted, but _“the chief butler did not remember Joseph, but forgat him.”_
Point: Human memory fails, but divine remembrance never does. Grace sustains you when people forget your kindness, your sacrifice, your faithfulness.
Application: Don’t build your hope on human connections alone. Walk into grace knowing that God remembers. He remembered Noah, Hannah, and He remembered Joseph in due season. Romans 5:2 says we _stand_ in grace. Standing means you don’t fall when people fail you.
4. Grace Demands Faith Like Abraham: Genesis 22:1-down
To fully walk into grace, we must walk in faith like Abraham on Mount Moriah. Grace was revealed when Abraham was willing to surrender Isaac, and God provided the ram.
Point: Grace and faith work together. God’s grace provides, but faith responds in obedience. Abraham’s obedience opened the door for God to say, _“Now I know that thou fearest God.”
Application:What is God asking you to surrender so you can walk deeper into grace? Grace often follows obedience.
Conclusion
Joseph walked into grace in prison, and it led him to the palace. Grace took him from accusation to interpretation, from forgotten to favored.
Romans 5:1-2 reminds us that through Christ, we have _access_ into grace. It’s not a place you hope to reach someday. It’s a place you stand in now by faith.
Call to Action:
1. Stop trying to earn what grace freely gives.
2. Be faithful in your current “prison” season. God is working.
3. Trust that God remembers you even when men forget.
4. Surrender fully, like Abraham, and watch grace provide.
