I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and as such I believe that Joseph Smith Jr. was a prophet of God.

I’m under no illusion that everyone believes this or that they will, but what I do find funny is how many people think that I must be completely and totally ignorant of Joseph’s foibles and the controversies surrounding him in order to hold to my convictions, when this couldn’t be further from the truth.

I’m well aware of Joseph’s treasure digging. I’m aware of the translation process of The Book of Mormon. I’m aware of the Kirtland Safety Society and its failure. I’m aware of polygamy and its difficulties. I’m aware of F***y Alger and Helen Mar Kimball. I’m aware of the burning down of the Nauvoo Expositor.

None of this is news to me. You posting a quote or goofy infographic isn’t going to shock me, and it certainly isn’t going to shake me from the truth that God has revealed to me.

Was Joseph Smith a perfect man? No, not by any stretch of the imagination. He never claimed to be, and as members of the church we certainly don’t teach that he was.

What we do teach, and what I testify to be true, is that he was a a good man.

Joseph was and is a prophet of God who, as the hymn states, was “blessed to open the last dispensation”. He truly did commune with Jehovah, and I’m eternally grateful for the role he played in the restoration of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, the work he was called to do regardless of his shortcomings.

Each of you has a spiritual destiny. You are on a journey through mortality, with a specific mission to accomplish here on earth unique to you.

In this new year, you will face challenges. However, you are a son or daughter of God, made in His image. He made your spirit strong and capable of being resilient to the whirlwinds of life.

This year you will have obstacles, delays, trials, temptations, distractions, disappointments, and challenges. There will be mistakes. You may wonder about your future.

Don’t be discouraged! You will have moments of hope and faith as doors open and obstacles are overcome this new year. Continue, persist, and above all, believe in Jesus Christ.

Your life is before you, and as you live righteously year after year, I assure you that your experiences will confirm to you again and again that Jesus is the Christ. You can and will find peace. The Savior reminds us, “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you” (John 14:18).

Faith

Do you find yourself wallowing in doubt and fear when things go wrong? The saviour said, " come unto me all ye that Labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest". Have faith in him and come unto him today. # come unto christ.

Isn't it beautiful how the saviour's atonement makes us whole and cleanses us from our sins? How he forgives us countless times because of his endless love for us?. If you feel lost and swallowed up in your sin know today that the saviour loves you and wants to forgive you and cleans you from the guilt of sin. Say a prayer of Forgiveness today. .

Despite the toils and storms of life please do not be distracted, please REMAIN FOCUSED ON THE SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST.. he will never let the storms and toils destroy you.. hold on to the saviour and remain steadfast..
