YOU TOO CAN CHANGE THE NARRATIVE: THE PRAYER OF JABEZ (5)
..And God granted him that which he requested - 1 Chron. 4:10c

One of the secrets to answered prayers is praying in consonant or harmony with the will of God. When we pray in line with God's will for our lives, it is simple and touching. Let me also say that, the answer Jabez got was not a one day stuff or quick investment platform, where you are told to invest certain amount and get double in 30mins. It must have taken years and a determined, intentional living on the side of Jabez to activate the answered prayers. Prayers and it corresponding hard work and diligence, like any other endeavour, is a seed and time must of necessity pass over it, to command harvest. It is seed, time and harvest. No matter what the will of God is for us, if we don't create the necessary platform for it fulfillment, we may still end in frustration. Being prayerful is not enough. Being educated is not enough. Having connection is not enough. Working towards our desired dreams and destination is. God is sometimes helpless when we live in ignorance. We must identity where we are and where we should be, in order to able to ask right questions and find solutions. Jabez prayed and went out to work out his destiny. Nigeria is a praying and largely Christian nation, but can we compare ourselves with Buddhist nations or Islamic nations in terms of prosperity and better life? You see what I mean? Understanding of how things work is a veritable platform to activate answered prayers. May God reveal himself to you and grant your request, as you pray in line with His will. Amen. Concluded!

YOU TOO CAN CHANGE THE NARRATIVE: THE PRAYER OF JABEZ (4)

"...and that thou wouldest KEEP me from EVIL, that it may grieve me..." - 1 Chron. 4:10d (KJV) Emphasis added

Jesus, teaching His disciples on the modules for effective prayer, asked them to pray that God should " lead them not into temptation but deliver them from evil." This underscores the seriousness God attaches to living above evil. Evil here connotes anything not pleasing to God and His will concerning us. God epitomizes good and all who aspire to walk with Him must as a matter of seriousness, shun evil and live good. Jabez prayed that God would keep him from evil that it may not grieve him, not God. What this implies is that, we are always on the losing side when we do evil. He said involving in evil will harm him, not God. He knew that God's hand and presence would not be felt by a life lived for evil. This should be our prayer everyday, that God would keep us from evil that it may not stop or alter the course of our destiny. Before God blessed Jabez, he laid the foundation for an enduring walk with God by sincerely demonstrating his willingness to obey God by shunning evil. Sometimes, the way we pray or the content of our prayers becomes sign of who we truly are and where we are headed in life. What we asked God in prayer reveals our values and character. Jabez showed a life that values good and righteousness, hence his request to God. We certainly can't go far if we are not ready to pay certain price - living right. Success in life is not gotten by sheer accident or luck, it is a deliberate combination of hard work, living right and faith in God and in ourselves. Jabez did not only believe in God, himself and work hard but prayed and live right. Whether we are aware of this or not, our prayers reveals our values and interest. Whatever is our weakness, God is able to help us against it. It is possible to manage our weaknesses and challenges. May God help us against the trappings of life and preserve our destinies. You too can change the narrative, if you take responsibility. May God richly bless you!

YOU TOO CAN CHANGE THE NARRATIVE: THE PRAYER OF JABEZ (3)

"...and enlarge my coast, and that thin hand might be with me..." -1 Chron.4:10b

God had truly promised Abraham to give the land of Canaan as an inheritance to his generation forever, but that land was still inhabited as at the time Israel entered it. They were to claim their inheritance by driving out, through war the present dwellers. That they succeeded in doing this, is not because they were stronger or mightier than those people but because God's hand was with them. When we use the human attributes to describe God, it doesn't mean He is human, no, but to convey certain spiritual truth. Theology called this anthropomorphism. The hand of God here connotes His strength and wisdom at work in an individual. It also connotes God's leadership of an individual or group. Jabez could accomplished little or nothing without God's power and wisdom. Expansion in all aspect of our lives is not possible without God's enablement - Isa. 48:17. So Jabez knew this and prayed for expansion and God's power because the two cannot be divorced from each other. God is the secret of success in life. That doesn't mean that a prayer for expansion and God's presence is enough to make one great, no, it is not. No matter how spiritual you are, there are certain things that must be put in place for God to answer our prayers. The twin factor is faith and works. In fact, two of the most important marks of a truly spiritual person is the level of his faith in God and himself and the quality of his works. Jabez prayed, but also work towards expansion. God will not do it until a certain platform is raise to attract His response. Expansion is not a sign of greed on the part of the petitioner but the will of God for us. It takes a billionaire to run a private army. Abraham had 318 trained fighters, whom he housed and fed - Gen.14:14. So it is very normal for a child of God to aspire for greatness. Jabez wanted this and he worked hard and got it. Which area of your life needs expansion? Are you sure you can navigate through life without God's guidance and empowerment? Ask God for the grace and wisdom to expand your business frontiers. It is His will to make you great. God has this penchant for turning a nobody into somebody. Receive grace for expansion. May the Lord strengthen your resolve to make it in life. May He, like Jabez, change your story by empowering you with strength and wisdom. Remain highly blessed and secured, in Jesus name. Amen.

YOU TOO CAN CHANGE THE NARRATIVE: THE PRAYER OF JABEZ (2)

"And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that wouldest bless me INDEED..." - 1 Chron. 4:10a (KJV) Emphasis added.

Prayer is an indispensable ingredient that must feature prominently in the life of a man on the road to destiny. Prayer is not only a platform for fellowship with God, but also a demonstration of our implicit faith and trust in God, who is the giver of destiny. Prayer is the live wire of any sound spiritual entity. Jabez was born a child of circumstances but did not allow that to influence his approach to life and success. He cleaved to God and look unto Him for help. He prayed for blessing. Now what is blessing? Let's start by defining what blessing is not. Blessing is not money. It is not material acquisition. It is not owning chains of businesses, though all the aforementioned are all products of blessing. Blessing is an intangible force or influence. It is operating under supernatural help. The bible speaking of Uzziah, said, he was marvelously helped till he was strong. - 2 Chron.26:15. Blessing is the hand, the presence of God upon individual. It is His power at work in an individual. If blessing was material wealth, Jacob wouldn't struggle with the Angelic visitor at river Jabok that morning for a blessing. He had everything except the blessing, that was why he cried out and struggle for it. Jabez needed God's hand, presence and power in his life - that's the blessing. David speaking in Psalm says, blessed is the man whose God is the Lord. To be blessed means to possess God and belong to Him. King Melchizedek of Salem, blessed Abraham, describing him as Abram of the most high, possessor of heaven and earth- Gen. 14:19. When Jabez prayed for blessing, he was implying that God should empower him for success. So no matter how smart, intelligent and resourceful and well connected we are, if we neglect this all important aspect of our lives, we are surely going to fail. The God factor cannot be substituted for anything or anyone. Go back to the place of prayer, go back to God and confess your utter helplessness before Him. He will make a great man or woman out of you, if you're willing to pay the necessary price. To every great destiny is attached a great price. Jabez ignored his background, his name and look beyond them, to the Almighty God is able to make great things out of nothing. Until we are empowered by God, no matter how rich we are, we are not blessed INDEED and that's the difference. May God bless you indeed as you take this responsibility. Remember, in every divine intervention, there is always the human factor in it. Remain highly lifted in Jesus name. Amen.

YOU TOO CAN CHANGE THE NARRATIVE: THE PRAYER OF JABEZ (1)

"Now Jabez was more honourable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, " because I bore him in pain"- 1Chron. 4:9 (NKJV)

When it comes to the believe that name could influence or play a vital role in people's destiny, I am neither here nor there; because whatever is your name or circumstances that surrounded your birth, you can still change the narrative by a conscious effort, faith in God and hard work. People are keen to blaming their woes, either on the name they were given or situation that surrounded their birth. Sooner have they change their names have they realized that, the secret of breakthrough in life lies not so much in the name one bears, but in relationship and life assignment (destiny). Relationship with God and the discovery of what one is fashioned or designed for. The story of Jabez starts from the end to the beginning, not the other way round. The verse opens with him being described as being more honourable than his brothers and then traces the origin and situation that warranted him being christened as such. Though we are not furnished with the exact situation his mother found herself in the time Jabez was about to be born or was born, the name itself represent pain, agony and frustration; but the bearer was bent on changing the narrative as we shall see in the succeeding parts of this series. The one whose name signifies and represents a ugly past is now more honourable than his brethren. Do you think your problems lies in the name you bear? Do you think bearing "Happiness" can guarantee you a happy life or "Favour" a favourable life. Haven't you seen those who bore "Peace" being very troublesome and quarrelsome? What of Patience who is so hot tempered and testy. Does it mean bearing Victory or Victor or Victoria will make you lead a victorious life? It doesn't work that way, because Judas Iscariot doesn't mean a traitor either. I don't believe in luck attached to names but I believe in names which became pronounced because their bearers sought God, worked hard and got blessed. Though some names could be down right stupid and nonsensical ( like okpok, mbiam Ibibio names for lizard and satanic deity respectively, among others); their bearers wouldn't do any better if they bore "Prosper" without a conscious effort at changing their lives. God didn't place a premium on name change as a panacea for a life of blessing. Only three people in the Bible did God changed their names - Abram to Abraham, Sarai to Sarah, Jacob to Israel and these changes were strictly on God's redemptive purpose and destiny, ( their names were changed based on the role they would play in God's plan for mankind) not because of their personal life condition. Our former President Good luck Jonathan is classic example of those who seemed to have made it in life because of their names; but if you read the story of Jonathan, you will notice a prophetic release from his father you used to call him Azikiwe, Nigeria's first President. Secondly, he was educated and made daily decisions which gradually projected him to be employed first as a college tutor, later as a running mate and deputy governor. You know the rest! Your name is not your problem, don't change it yet. Try this... in part two of this series.

AFTER 38 YEARS HE HAD NOTHING TO TELL JESUS
..Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool... Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, "do you want to be made well?" The sick man answered Him, Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up..." -John 5:1, 5-7. (NKJV)

One of the most unfortunate thing in life is to be unable to know exactly what we need at the most crucial hour. In the pool of Bethesda laid a sick man for thirty eight years, who, according to him, had no relatives to put him in the pool when stirred by an Angel for his healing. For an Angel would stirred that pool at a certain time and whoever got in there first, gets his or her healing. Jesus met him there and knew that he had been sick that long, and ask him one of the most simplest questions: "Do you want to be made well?" I don't think the question was difficult to be understood by a man who had suffered so much and needed healing desperately. But like so many in our time would do, the man left the question he was asked and started telling Jesus stories which wasn't necessary at that crucial hour. Sadly, He ended up telling Jesus nothing in thirty eight years of his suffering. Jesus, in compassion ignored his mistake and healed him. Like the sick man at the Pool of Bethesda, so many of us today meets Jesus at the place of prayer everyday with our needs and ended up telling him nothing. Instead, like the sick man, we would bore him with stories and show of emotions because we believed our emotions and plenty stories on the altar will move God to answer our prayers, but He certainly won't because God doesn't respond to tears and plenty words, but to a need or needs clearly expressed in faith. Jesus admonished his audience to avoid vain repetitions and too much talk during prayers and head straight to what they needed - Matt. 6: 7 & 8. Jesus didn't need the man's stories to heal him, for he already knew he had been there for a long time. We may not be lucky to be like the sick man whom Jesus heal, despite the fact he didn't know what to tell him; we need to convince God that we know what we need. I consciously used the word "need", instead of "want" here because of the grammatical implications of the two. What the sick man wanted was people to help him get into the pool but what he really needed was healing. Are you in the same boat with this sick man today? If you were to meet Jesus physically today, and he asked you for just one need you want him to meet, are you sure you would have made good use of that crucial moment by telling him exactly your true need? Then go to him in prayers and make an end of that situation that has refused to change for years now. God will surely meet you there and it shall end in praise. May God change your story in Jesus name. Amen.

WITH GOD NO SITUATION IS BEYOND REMEDY

"Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, BY THIS TIME HE STINKETH: for he hath been dead four days" John 11:39 KJV ( emphasis added)

It is commonly believed among the Orthodox Jews that, actual decomposition start after three days of death. Within this time, there could still be hope of reviving the dead. That was why Martha told Jesus that Lazarus had been dead four days, when the latter ordered the grave stone to be taken away. To those who gathered at Lazarus' house that day, it was a joke of all time for Jesus to have even thought of bringing a possibly decomposed body back to life; but there they were, face to face with miracle and history about to be created - Lazarus being raised from the dead. No situation is beyond God's intervention. While Jesus was on earth, he never referred any case or cases brought to him, he handled them all. He is the final destination to those whose problems have defied all human wisdom and inventions. Let me come home to you who is reading this! What exactly is your real problem? Because there are imaginary problems. What is that case you think nothing can be done to remedy it? Do you sincerely think there are things in your life Jesus can not handled? Like, Martha, do you think by now, the situations must have gone beyond remedy? If your answer is in the affirmative, then you are wrong. Because be it health, economic, financial, family, social or marital or any other challenges, nothing is beyond God's intervention. God always would have a way of dealing with what you are going through if you sincerely recognized and put your faith in Him. No miracle happens without human effort. Lazarus' story is a clear attestation to this fact. They cooperated with Jesus and God manifested His glory. Rise up this morning and beat your chest and say Father, it is possible. Your womb may have been declared dead by an expert but Jesus can bring life to it. You may have been declared sterile as a man, but Jesus can change the story, if you can simply believe. You sickness may have defied all human wisdom and solutions, but it would submit to Jesus. One of the major hindrances to receiving miracle is that, the promises are just too simple to be true. So don't fall into this trap. Any aspect of Lazarus in you can come back to life, if you can say yes Lord it is possible. May God honour His word in your life today and grant you rare intervention in Jesus name. Happy Sunday ahead. Shalom!

DON'T POSTPONE THE DAY OF YOUR VISITATION BY YOUR ATTITUDE

"...I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give thee. Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. Jesus saith unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life..." John 11:22-25a (KJV)

One of the hindrance to divine visitation is to approach God with preconceived notion or idea. It is an attitude that hinders the working of faith and delays our visitation. Jesus had walk into Lazarus' house with the intention of raising him and manifesting the glory of God that day. That was it. That was why when Martha told Jesus he was late, he responded by telling her his immediate intention - raising of Lazarus. He never exaggerated or used any ambiguous terms - "your brother shall rise again." Though she had started well by telling Jesus that she knows whatever he asked of the Father, He will give to him; Martha seemed to know better than Jesus by preaching to him about the resurrection. Sometimes the little we know can be our problem if we don't understand the full picture(the person and the will of God). How on earth could Martha be preaching resurrection to the Resurrection Himself if it was not ignorance and half scriptural education at work? It is always instructive to go to God with a child-like attitude and remained open minded on the prayer altar, instead of trying to preach to him, because, just as the heaven is far from the earth, so his thoughts are different and far from ours. Jesus then dropped the bombshell: I am the Resurrection. He helped her faith by bringing her from the future back to the present because the "now" is the language of faith. " NOW faith is the substance of things hope for, the evidence of things not seen " - Heb. 11:1(emphasis added). Jesus never asked any sick folk when he or she want to be made whole; but instead would ask: will thou be made whole? I want to remind you that you don't have the Resurrection as an external saviour alone, but he lives in you and is able to bring to life every dead aspect of your life. You have a choice not to or postpone this divine visitation by saying Lord, it is possible NOW. Cancer can go now, ulcer can go now, hypertension can go now, diabetes can go now, fear can go now, stroke can go now, fruitless and unsuccessful life can give way to a life of connection and favour now, I can be employed now, I can start my own business now, it is all possible because I have the Resurrection in me. All things are possible now. Martha told Jesus that she knows whatever He asked of the Father, He will give him. Jesus himself told us that whatever we asked of the Father through him, he will give, that God maybe glorified through the Son. -John 14:13,14. Rise from your slumber and key into this his word for you today. May your visitation come today in Jesus name. Amen.

GOD IS NEVER LATE

"Then, when Mary came to where Jesus was, and saw Him, she fell down at His feet, saying to Him, " Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died" - John 11:32 (NKJV)

Lazarus had been dead and buried for four days before Jesus' arrival that day in their compound. All hope of possible remedy to the situation, by way of bringing him(Lazarus) back to life was lost. They all believe the master Jesus came for a condolence visit, that was probably the reason Mary expressed regret for His supposedly late coming. But unknown to her, Jesus was not late in coming but planned the coming. One of God's natural attribute is to always be on time. Time is one of God's creations and servants and there is no way it could stop or regulate Him. He is always on time. You may have suffered delay in marriage, child bearing, promotion, and in having any divine intervention, and are consequently discouraged and have lost faith in His promises; but remember that He will be there right on time. Keep your eyes focussed on Him and don't be distracted. It took Him four days to arrive Lazarus' compound, but He arrived there anyway. If we waited for eternity to see God's hand on our lives, then that was what was needed to see His hand and wasn't a wasted time. May God give you the grace to wait for Him. May your testimony comes as you key into this timely word today. God bless you.
