MINISTERING: Sis. Ima-obong Thompson

SERMON TOPIC: The Power from Above

ANCHOR TEXT: Luke 24:49

THE MESSAGE
There are many kinds of power in this world, but as a youth in the church, you need the Power from Above to overcome, conquer, and surmount the challenges, temptations, and pressures of this present world.
Before Jesus Christ ascended into heaven, He admonished His disciples to “wait” because He would send unto them a divine Helper, a guiding Light, and that is the Holy Spirit.
The devil is not primarily looking for the wayward, the drunkard, the clubbers, or those who are already in his camp. Rather, he is seeking those who are in the house of God. Why? Because you carry the potential to win souls for Christ, to stand for truth, and to depopulate the kingdom of darkness.

Brothers and sisters in Christ, you need the Power from Above.

Let us ask ourselves:
-Do you have the Holy Spirit in you?
-If you do, what have you done with it?
-Do you know that even with your phone, you can propagate the Gospel of Christ and reach souls across the world?

"LET US LOOK AT THE CHARACTERISTICS OF POWER
1. IT IS A PROMISE — Acts 1:8
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
The Power from Above is not ordinary; it is a divine promise from God to every believer for kingdom assignment.

2. BELIEVERS WERE ASKED TO WAIT EARNESTLY FOR IT
How do we wait?
You must genuinely desire the Holy Spirit because the world is becoming darker and more corrupt. Therefore, this is the season to seek the Power from Above like never before.
You must ask God sincerely for the Holy Spirit to empower, strengthen, and transform you.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT?
1. TO GIVE BOLDNESS
You need the Holy Spirit to give you boldness to preach the Gospel without fear or shame.
You must also stop living in sin so that you can boldly correct, guide, and restore those who are going astray.

2. TO FULFILL THE GREAT COMMISSION — Matthew 28:19–20
(19) “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,”
(20) “and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
You need the Power from Above to effectively preach the Word of God and fulfill your divine assignment on earth.

3. TO LIVE A HOLY AND VICTORIOUS LIFE
It takes the Holy Spirit and the Power from Above for you to live a life of holiness, righteousness, and spiritual victory in this sinful world.

4. TO OVERCOME ADVERSITIES
You need divine power to overcome the adversities, temptations, trials, and spiritual battles of this world.

5. THE INDWELLING PRESENCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
When the Holy Spirit dwells in you:
Your spiritual ears will be opened.
Your spiritual eyes will see beyond the ordinary.
You will gain deeper connection, intimacy, and fellowship with God.
Indeed, you need the Holy Spirit for divine direction, revelation, and supernatural strength.

HOW DO YOU RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT?
-Desire the Holy Spirit sincerely.
-Wait upon God patiently.

*How do you wait?
Through:
-Fasting
-Prayer
-Total surrender to God
You must learn to wait on God until you are endued with Power from Above.

CONCLUSION
As youths in this generation, this is not the time to be spiritually weak, distracted, or powerless. This is the time to seek, receive, and walk in the Power from Above so that we can stand firm, live holy, win souls, and fulfill God’s purpose.
May we not just hear about the Holy Spirit, but may we encounter His power personally and live as true ambassadors of Christ.

PRAYER
May God fill us with His Holy Spirit, empower us for His work, strengthen us to overcome the world, and help us live holy and victorious lives in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Have a successful and spirit-filled week ahead.

Sermon Topic: The Altar of Burnt Offering

Anchor Text: 1 Chronicles 22:1–19

Key Verse :1 Chronicles 22:1
“Then David said, ‘The house of the Lord God is to be here, and also the altar of burnt offering for Israel."

THE MESSAGE
God brought us here for a divine reason, and this place is our altar of burnt offering. The Bible tells us that David gathered everything, including silver and gold, in preparation to build an altar unto God, but God declined his request.

David was eager, passionate, and fully prepared to build for the Lord. He invested greatly, giving his resources, strength, and dedication. Every investment a person makes is usually with the hope of a gain or return on investment.

Verse 7 of 1 Chronicles chapter 22 says:
“David said to Solomon: ‘My son, I had it in my heart to build a house for the Name of the Lord my God.’”
This simply tells us that not everyone is qualified to build a temple unto God. Therefore, we should recognize that we have been considered worthy, privileged, and chosen to build unto God.

Verse 14 of 1 Chronicles chapter 22 also says:
“I have taken great pains to provide for the temple of the Lord a hundred thousand talents of gold, a million talents of silver, quantities of bronze and iron too great to be weighed, and wood and stone. And you may add to them.”

This passage shows David’s extraordinary sacrifice, commitment, and willingness to give his all for God’s work.

Brethren, God does not only demand from the wealthy; He also seeks from the lowest of men. He desires that little you have, so that He can bless and reward you abundantly. God values sacrifice, sincerity, and willingness more than abundance.

The poor widow in the Bible gave her last token, yet God considered it the greatest because she gave from her heart, out of sacrifice, faith, and total dependence on Him.

CONCLUSION
Brethren, when building unto God, it requires sacrifice, willingness, obedience, and a heart fully surrendered to His purpose. Building an altar for God is not just about material things alone, but about giving God our hearts, time, service, and devotion. We must understand that every genuine sacrifice made for God never goes unnoticed, for in due season, He rewards faithfully.

PRAYER
Just like David in the Bible, let us be eager and ready to do that which is costly for the Kingdom of God. Let us take great pains to build unto God an altar, for we are privileged and considered worthy. May we never withhold from God, but serve Him wholeheartedly, knowing that in the end, God will reward us handsomely.

Do have a successful and blessed week ahead.

SUNDAY SERVICE REPORT

Date: 29th April, 2026

Ministering: Deac. Ifiok Matthew

Sermon Topic: Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness

Anchor Text: Matthew 6:29–34

Other References: Isaiah 55:6, Psalm 66:1, Genesis 7:1, John 21:6, Jeremiah 29:11, Revelation 1:18

Key Verse: Matthew 6:33
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”

THE MESSAGE
The youthful stage of life is a season filled with many experiences, emotions, and decisions. It is a period where countless thoughts flood the mind, and there is often a strong desire for flashy and worldly things sometimes pushing individuals to pursue them by all means necessary.

However, God is sending a clear message to us today: that we must seek first His Kingdom, Many young people today engage in actions that are not pleasing in the sight of the Lord, driven by pressure, desires, and the pursuit of worldly validation. This message is a call to realignment a call back to God.

*FOUR KEY WORDS IN MATTHEW 6:33

1. Seek
2. First
3. Kingdom of God
4. Righteousness

1. SEEK
What are we truly seeking?
As young people, we are called to seek the face of God personally and intentionally. In everything we do and aspire to become, God must be our priority. If we fail to seek Him early in life, we may miss out on divine direction and purpose.

2. FIRST
Do you involve God first in your decisions, or do you rely on your own understanding moving by trial and error?
When we place God first and acknowledge Him in all our ways, He directs our paths and makes them straight and perfect.

3. KINGDOM OF GOD
In all that you do, do you remember that there is a Kingdom you belong to?
Do you genuinely desire the Kingdom of God? Everything we pursue in life should reflect our identity as citizens of that Kingdom. This world is temporary, but God’s Kingdom is eternal that is where we truly belong.

4. RIGHTEOUSNESS
Many youths overlook righteousness because they have normalized worldly standards.
But as children of God, righteousness should be our lifestyle not an option. Living uprightly should be our daily practice. When you live a righteous life, God does not hesitate to bless you and fulfill your desires. No matter what others are doing, you are called to stand out and live a clean, holy life for Christ.

*WHY SHOULD WE SEEK JESUS FIRST?

1. God Created Us
God is deeply interested in us. He does not want us to lose our souls. Each of us was created with a divine purpose, and only Him can reveal and guide us into it. (Genesis 1 vs 26).

2. He Knows the Way
God knows what is best for you He knows your future. He is calling us today to amend our ways, align with His commandments, and trust Him fully. When we do this, every other good thing will be added unto us.( John 21 vs 6)

3. His Thoughts Towards You Are Good
God’s plans for you are good to give you a future filled with hope, purpose, and fulfillment.( Jeremiah 29 vs 11).

4. He Holds the Keys of Life
We must live with the consciousness that our lives are not our own. God owns the key to life and eternity. Therefore, we must live uprightly, knowing that life is precious and can be taken at any time.( Reve 1 vs 18)

CONCLUSION
God knows how to direct your path and lead you to your divine destination. He alone can help you achieve your heart’s desires if only you are willing to seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness.

PRAYER
Thank You, dear Lord, for always having our best interests at heart.
Please direct us, guide us, and speak to us daily.
Help us to remain conscious of Your Kingdom and to live according to Your will at all times.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Do have an awesome and blessed week ahead.
