HEAVEN GAINS A GENERAL AS ‘HERO OF FAITH’ TAKES FINAL BOW..tributes celebrate a legacy of prayer, leadership, and steadfast commitment to the gospel

A solemn yet triumphant atmosphere filled the Uyo Township Stadium on Friday, April 10, 2026, as thousands gathered to honour and bid farewell to Apostle Elisha Thompson Eduok, one of the most respected spiritual leaders in The Apostolic Church Nigeria (TACN), Akwa Ibom State Territory, whose transition at the age of 80 marked the closing of a remarkable chapter in the church's ministerial history.

The late cleric, widely celebrated as a "Hero of Faith," was laid to rest after decades of unwavering service marked by prayer, leadership, discipline, and deep spiritual devotion. His funeral drew an extraordinary assembly of Superintendents, Apostles, Pastors, church elders, family members, and faithful from across and beyond the Territory, all gathered to honour a life many described as fully poured out in service to God and humanity.

Officiating the service, the National Vice President and Territorial Chairman, Apostle E. U. Johnson, delivered a heartfelt message that reflected both reverence and gratitude, describing the deceased as a man of rare consistency, humility, and spiritual depth. He noted that Apostle Eduok's life was a testament to endurance in ministry and urged believers to emulate his steadfast commitment to the gospel.

Born on May 25, 1946, Apostle Eduok's journey into ministry was shaped by humble beginnings and an uncommon sense of divine calling. Beginning life as a tailor, he later embraced theological training and responded fully to the call into pastoral ministry. His early life of discipline and hard work became the foundation for a ministry that would span decades and touch countless lives.

Ordained in 1975, he served faithfully across several districts and areas including Ikot Ekpene, Etinan, Afaha Eket, and Uyo, where his influence contributed significantly to church growth, revival, and structural strengthening. Over the years, he rose through the ranks to become Deputy Field Superintendent of Uyo Field, a position he held with distinction until his retirement in 2023 after a lifetime of dedicated service.

Throughout his ministry, Apostle Eduok was known for a strong emphasis on prayer, holiness, evangelism, and spiritual discipline. His services were often marked by testimonies of healing, deliverance, and restoration, earning him deep respect among both colleagues and congregants. Beyond the pulpit, he was remembered as a father figure to many, noted for his humility, generosity, and accessible leadership style that bridged generations and backgrounds.

Following the funeral service, his remains were conveyed to his hometown, Okwo Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, where he was laid to rest amid hymns, prayers, and solemn Christian rites. For many in attendance, the moment was not only a farewell but a celebration of a life considered complete in purpose and impactful in legacy.

As tributes continue to pour in from within and outside Nigeria, the enduring message remains that Apostle Eduok lived a life of visible faith, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire ministers and believers alike. Though he has taken his final bow, his influence, teachings, and spiritual imprint are expected to resonate for generations within the church and beyond.
