GOD'S WORD FOR TODAY. MONDAY OF WEEK TWENTY FOUR IN ORDINARY TIME.. Celebrating the Memorial of Saints Cornelius and Cyprian. 1Cor. 11:17-26,33, Lk.7:1-10.
In the Gospel reading of today dear friend, the Lord once more calls us to a life of deeper faith in Him. He calls us to emulate the faith of the centurion. The faith of the centurion is one that is thought provoking. The encounter of Christ and the centurion teach us that no one encounters Jesus and remains the same, that no one who puts his or her faith in God that will go unrewarded, that no one who sorely rely on God that will be disappointed. Faith dear friend helps us to believe and know that God can make a turn around in our situation. With Faith in Jesus our lives become beautiful and glorious. It was not the centurion that was I'll, it was not his child that was I'll but rather one of his servants. How we treat the less privilege, the workers under us, our subordinates, our house help, our gate men and drivers etc go along way to determine the kind of Christian we truly are. We live in an era, where the sense of insensitivity is becoming the order of the day. As Christians, let us learn to be sensitive to the needs of others and moreso make effort to bring Jesus to those around us just as the centurion did. The centurion sent some men to go and ask Jesus to come and save his servant who was ill Just as our Father sent Christ His Beloved Son to the entire human race in order to give us life. Look at the words of those he sent to Jesus! Please Lord, come with us for the centurion is indeed a man of honour who has contributed positively to the development of our community, infact, he built for us the synagogue. What a recommendation my goodness! As believers, what good and legacies are we known for? No one takes his or her wealth along when the trumpet blows, our affluence, possessions, power, authority all end here. When we are gone, it is only the legacies we leave behind either good or bad that we would be remembered for. What impact do we make in the life of those around us? Indeed Jesus went with them and getting to the home of the centurion, we see another level of faith displayed by the centurion. In his powers and authority, he could feel how empty he was before Jesus, his humility before Christ brought salvation to his household. Dearly beloved, let us learn to humble our pride before God. God is the owner of power and authority. All we are and have come from God. The life we have is not bought but given to us by God. Why the pride? Why the self interest? Why the insensitivity? Why the ergo? Why the greed? Why the arrogance? Today, let us all humble ourselves before Jesus and welcome Him into our lives and family. Know that each time we acknowledge our sins before God just like the centurion did, more graces are given to us from above. The more we stand in the gap for others in prayer and supplication, all the more we share in their blessings. The centurion's servant got the attention and assistance of his master because of his disposition and diligence to duty, he was trustworthy, he was obedient, sincere, dutiful, positively disposed to his work and more importantly, took his master's affairs as though they were his. This attitude of laziness, entitlement mentality, irresponsibility and indifference to our work, using people's business we handle to enrich the self to the detriment and collapse of individuals source of wealth, stealing, embezzlement of funds placed in our care etc can destroy ones integrity and reputation. Like the servant of the centurion let us make positive impact in the places of our duties and the God who rewards goodness will not let us go unrewarded. May God help us to continue to show love to those around us and keep us always in His love. Saints Cornelius and Cyprian; Pray for us! And to all who celebrate their natal today, this is wishing you a very happy birthday.
