The Devil—The Father of All Lies
They are lying devils. I said it once and I’ll say it again: liars! And I want to proclaim this loud and clear to anyone who has ears to hear—the devil is a liar. Let me repeat it because it must sink deep into your heart: the devil is a liar. He is a liar through and through. He cannot do anything but lie, because lying is not simply what he does—it is who he is. He is the very embodiment of falsehood.
I remember vividly having a cousin when I was growing up who was known for being a chronic liar. Everyone in the family laughed about it, though in reality it was very sad. He became almost a legend for his falsehoods. He would spin stories so bold, so exaggerated, and so outrageous that even those who didn’t know him would be caught off guard and sometimes believe them. For those of us who grew up around him, we often shook our heads at the sheer absurdity of his tales.
One memory stands out above the rest. Years later, after we had all grown into adulthood, I heard that he supposedly owned a massive deer farm. Now this piqued my curiosity, so I went to see for myself. When I arrived, I discovered the truth. He had perhaps four or five deer at most. Yet there he was, boasting of how he owned enormous deer farms in one county and another, spinning an elaborate web of falsehood. It was laughable, yet it was also tragic. His entire identity was wrapped in lying. That’s when the Holy Spirit impressed upon me in a deeper way that the devil is just like that, only far worse. He tells lies so bold, so outrageous, so shameless, that if you don’t know the truth of God’s Word, you’ll end up believing him.

The Nature of Satan’s Lies
I want you to understand something clearly: everything the devil says is a lie. Not some things. Not part of what he whispers. Not half-truths that might contain a little light. No, everything he speaks is rooted in falsehood. Now, what makes his lies so dangerous is that he often mixes a fragment of truth in with them, just enough to make them sound plausible. But even with that, the whole thing is still a lie, because anything twisted away from God’s perfect truth becomes deception.
You must get this deep into your spirit: it is impossible for God to lie, and it is equally impossible for the devil to tell the truth. Hebrews 6:18 says, “That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation.” On the other hand, Jesus said of Satan in John 8:44, “When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” There is no darkness in God, and there is no light in the devil. There is no middle ground, no compromise, no gray area.
That is why Elijah cried out to the people of Israel in 1 Kings 18:21, “How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him.” We cannot wobble back and forth between truth and lies, between the living God and idols, between Jesus and deception. The God who answers by fire is the true God, and He proved Himself on Mount Carmel by sending fire from heaven at Elijah’s prayer. The same God proves Himself today by His unshakable truth.

Absolutes in the Word of God
So let’s go back to Genesis. The serpent slithered into the garden and questioned the woman. “Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” Already, he twisted the Word. And Eve replied, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die” (Genesis 3:2–3).
Notice what happened—Eve softened God’s absolute Word. God did not say “lest ye die.” He said plainly, “for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die” (Genesis 2:17). That is not a possibility; that is an absolute. And yet she turned His absolutes into possibilities. In the same way today, the world wants to do away with absolutes. They tell us that truth is relative, that morality is a matter of opinion, that right and wrong are shades of gray. But the Bible is full of absolutes.
Think about it. If you step into the path of an 18-wheeler barreling down the highway at 70 miles an hour, you will get run over. That’s not a matter of interpretation. That’s an absolute. If you thrust your hand into a fire knowingly and willingly, you will be burned. It doesn’t matter how much you deny it or wish it were different. It’s absolute. So it is with God’s Word. When God declares something, it is unchanging, eternal truth.

Believing Lies Leads to Bo***ge
Now here is a sobering reality: if you believe the devil’s lie, you come under the authority of that lie. You become enslaved to it. Lies always lead to bo***ge. This is why Jesus said in John 8:32, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Only truth can liberate; lies enslave.
And sadly, many people—even those who call themselves Christians—live under the power of lies. They have allowed the enemy to deceive them into believing things that contradict God’s Word. Let me give you a practical example. Philippians 4:19 declares, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” That is God’s promise, His unshakable Word. But notice Paul gave this promise to the Philippian believers who had faithfully supported his ministry, who had given generously to the work of the Gospel. They were sowers, and therefore, they had a divine promise of provision.
Yet how many believers today have swallowed the devil’s lie that God does not provide, that He does not care, that He will not meet their needs? They live in constant fear, anxiety, and unbelief. They repeat with their mouths the very lie of Satan, saying things like, “I don’t know how I’ll make it. God has forgotten me. He doesn’t care about me.” And by believing those lies, they give power to them, and those lies enslave their hearts.
But the truth of God remains the same. He is Jehovah Jireh, the Lord who provides. And when we walk in obedience, when we align ourselves with His truth, His provision becomes our reality.
