OUR SECOND BATCH OF VOCATION DISCERNMENT

Life Saving Missionaries, Order of Saint Maximilian Kolbe (LSM, Osmk)

This is to inform interested candidates who wish to discern their monastic vocation with us that the Second Batch of our Two-Week Community Experience is scheduled to commence on: 📅 Date: Friday, 21st August 2026

This period is an opportunity for candidates to experience our community life, prayer, discipline, silence, work, and contemplative spirituality, while prayerfully discerning whether God is calling them to this particular way of life.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE APPLYING

1. Priesthood is not the primary goal of our monastic vocation.
In our monastic life, no candidate chooses or demands to become a priest, even when he personally feels convinced that he has a priestly vocation. When the need arises, the Superior, together with the Council, prayerfully discerns and selects brothers who may be called for priestly formation.

2. If your sole or primary intention is to become a priest, this vocation is certainly not for you.
Anyone who is desperate or determined to become a priest should not apply merely as a pathway to priesthood. Candidates must be genuinely open to embracing the monastic vocation, whether or not they are eventually called to priestly ministry.

3. Understand what monastic life entails.
Before applying, make sure you have taken time to understand what it means to become a monk and to live a contemplative life—a life of prayer, silence, sacrifice, discipline, community, obedience, work, simplicity, and complete openness to God's will.

A CALL TO DISCERNMENT
Do not apply simply because you are looking for a way to become a priest. Apply because you sincerely desire to discover God's will for your life and are willing to embrace the vocation to which He calls you. “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.” — 1 Samuel 3:9

FEAST OF THE TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD

The Transfiguration of Jesus reveals to us the reality and glory of heaven. Jesus took Peter, James, and John up the mountain to witness this extraordinary event in order to strengthen their faith and prepare them to become witnesses of the truth.

Overwhelmed by the divine glory, Peter, not fully understanding what he was saying, exclaimed, "Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah" (Matthew 17:4). In that moment of heavenly ecstasy, Peter desired to remain forever in the presence of God. His words echo the Psalmist's prayer: "How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts!" (Psalm 84:1).

Yet, on that same mountain of glory, the disciples also caught a glimpse of the suffering that awaited Jesus—His Passion, His sorrowful journey, and His death on Calvary. The Transfiguration teaches us that the path to glory always passes through the Cross. There is no resurrection without Calvary, and no crown without sacrifice.

Dear friends in Christ, are you willing to ascend the mountain with Jesus and allow Him to transfigure your life? Are you prepared to embrace the crosses that accompany authentic discipleship?

May this glorious feast remind us that "the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us" (Romans 8:18). Let us remain steadfast in faith, patient in trials, and unwavering in hope, knowing that our reward is in heaven.

As our Lord Himself assures us: "The one who perseveres to the end will be saved" (Matthew 24:13). May the light of the Transfigured Christ shine upon us, strengthen us in every trial, and lead us safely to the eternal glory of His heavenly Kingdom.

FEAST OF ST. JOHN MARY VIANNEY – A REFLECTION ON VOCATION

Bishops, priests, and religious superiors should be careful not to neglect or dismiss a candidate solely because of poor academic or intellectual performance, or because of financial difficulties. While the Church has embraced many developments in formation and education, the Church, society, and the world still need holy men and women above all.

The life of St. John Mary Vianney, whose feast we celebrate today, should inspire us to look beyond external abilities. He struggled academically and nearly lost his opportunity to become a priest. Yet, through the wise discernment and recommendation of his parish priest and diocesan bishop, his deep holiness, humility, and spiritual gifts were recognized. Today, he is venerated as the Patron Saint of Parish Priests.

One may ask: What would have happened if St. John Mary Vianney had been carelessly dismissed from formation? The Church would have been deprived of one of her greatest saints and shepherds.

This reminds us that while sound intellectual formation is important for ministry, it should always be accompanied by careful discernment of a person's vocation, holiness, character, and openness to God's grace. We must be cautious not to frustrate God's purpose in the life of someone whom He has called.

God seeks hearts that are humble, pure, and willing to serve Him. The Church and the world still need such souls.
