OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE: FRIDAY 26TH NOVEMBER 2021.

THEME: THE BLESSING OF FORGIVENESS.

MEMORISE:

Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Psalm 32:1

READ: Luke 23:39-43.
39 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.

40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?

41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.

42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.

MESSAGE:
We may not be able to comprehend what true blessedness is until we experience divine forgiveness. Nothing can be compared with the joy of salvation. We see this with Zacchaeus when Jesus called him in Luke 19:2-8; it was that joy that caused him to make restitution for his past evil deeds. When a man is genuinely saved, he will not only joyfully live a godly life, he will also feel compelled to right his past wrongdoings. It is the lack of genuine salvation that makes an individual to still keep, for example, a strange man or woman in his or her life, even after conversion.

One of the most amazing salvation stories is in today’s Bible reading. With just a few hours before he would have gone to hell, one of the robbers on the cross besides Jesus experience a great turnaround and entered into paradise. From this, we can see that the salvation prayer does not have to be lengthy; it only has to be simple, straight to the point and sincere. All you need to do is repent of your sins and promise God not to return to them. Pleading the blood of Jesus over your life for cleansing is also paramount in this regard. We see the publican pray in Luke 18:10-14 “…God be merciful to me a sinner”. And Jesus said of him” I tell you; this man went down to his house justified rather the other….”

God’s blessing (divine help) come in multiple forms but the blessing of divine forgiveness should be the first one we should all seek. In today’s reading, both robbers made separate requests. One asked for deliverance, the other salvation. Jesus Christ prioritized the request for salvation. Here we see true blessedness.

Beloved, true blessedness lies in the forgiveness we receive for our sins; it is upon this foundation that all other blessings are built. This is why if you are yet to repent, I implore you to do so without further delay. Confess your known and unknown sins to Jesus- the savior of mankind. He will forgive you as He did Zacchaeus and the robber on the cross, so that God’s blessings will flow into your life, in Jesus’ name.

PRAYER POINT:
Father, please pardon all my known and unknown iniquities and give me power to “Go and sin no more”, in Jesus’ name.

HYMN 2: AMAZING GRACE! HOW SWEET THE SOUND.
1. Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.

2. ’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.

3. Through many dangers, toils, and snares,
I have already come;
’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

4. The Lord has promised good to me,
His Word my hope secures;
He will my Shield and Portion be,
As long as life endures.

5. Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

6. The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, who called me here below,
Will be forever mine.

7. When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’d first begun.

*MESSAGE*:
The mercy of God is a deep expression of His love to mankind; it is so much that the natural mind cannot make sense of it (Ephesians 2:4).

A person can labour all his life and make no headway, but when God shows mercy, such fellow would move from grass to grace in no time at all.

Joseph was a slave, labouring for his master for years and then found himself wrongfully imprisoned.

One day however, God arranged for the king to summon him and within minutes, he became the second most powerful man in Egypt.

If someone had told Joseph that morning that he would be the Prime Minister before nightfall, he would have called the person a joker. Who knew him, and by the way, who would make a prisoner Prime Minister?

That is however what the mercy of God can do. It does not matter how low you are right now, the mercy of God will lift you higher than your dreams in Jesus’ name.

If there is only one fellow I know who has enjoyed the mercy of God, it is I. I am a little boy from a village that was not on the map until not very long ago.

In that village, my family was one of the poorest and least recognised, yet God showed me mercy.

Today, by the grace of God, the name Adeboye is known in several Countries of the world. If you also want to become great, you need His mercy.

You get this mercy by simply asking for it as we see in Hebrews 4:16:

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Exodus 25:17 gives us a hint of the position we should take when seeking His mercy.You will notice that in the dimensions therein, there is no height; just length and breadth. This mercy seat is one that you go flat on, in humility.

It is when you have completely laid yourself bare before God that you can enjoy His mercy. When you say “Go ahead and use me for whatever You want, Lord”, then you are ready.

In all that Joseph went through, not once did he complain or contemplate rejecting God. If you still give God terms and conditions, then you are not yet ready for His divine mercy.

*PRAYER POINT*:
Lord, I surrender my, will completely to You from today; please show me mercy.

We should never be discouraged,
Take it to the Lord in prayer!

4. Can we find a friend so faithful,
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our ev’ry weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

5. Are we weak and heavy laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Saviour, still our refuge,
Take it to the Lord in prayer!

6. Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.

MEMORY VERSE: "And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance." Acts 2:4.

BIBLE PASSAGE: Acts 2:1-4.
[1]And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
[2]And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
[3]And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
[4]And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: The day of the Pentecost marked the beginning of the dispensation of the Holy Ghost and will continue till Jesus comes to carry His own people away just before the great tribulation period. The coming of the Holy Ghost has been foretold by Jesus as the one coming to take charge of the activities of the church.

OUTLINES
1. The Holy Spirit And His Relevance
2. Fellowshipping With The Holy Spirit

THE HOLY SPIRIT AND HIS RELEVANCE
The Holy Spirit is the third person in Trinity (1John 5:7), the person in charge of this dispensation and He is in total control of all situations (John 16:13-14). He is called another Comforter (John 14:26), an expert in comforting those that mourn and are sorrowful (John 14:26). He is the Spirit of Truth (John 15:26), possessing all secrets (2 Kings 6:8-10). He is the Testifier (Romans 8:16) and the Teacher (John 14:26), full of all knowledge, wisdom and understanding (John 14:26). He is the Power behind every activity of the church (Acts 1:8; Luke 24:49). Power for holy living and exploit is with Him (Acts 1:8, Luke 10:19). Power to change and transform a person is also with Him. He is the revealer of the mind of God and the plan of the kingdom of darkness. (Romans 2:9-11). He convicts for genuine repentance (Ephesians 1:13-14). He is the Intercessor (Romans 8:26-27) and peace is available with Him (Mark11:23).

FELLOWSHIPPING WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT
Fellowshipping with the Holy Spirit is about seeking to know, developing intimacy with and carrying the favour of this higher Authority. Without the Holy Spirit you cannot go far in the Christian journey. This indispensability was further established as He was the power behind our Lord Jesus Christ's exploit all through His ministry on earth (Matthew 3:16; Acts 10:38).
For a believer, the fellowship with the Holy Spirit is not optional but mandatory, especially if such a believer will want to be relevant in the kingdom. In the place of fellowship, issues are tabled before God - the believer will be comforted, challenges will become stepping stone and ways will be made where there is no way (Acts 27:10). Fellowship can be sustained or lost with grave consequences (Psalm 51:11). Power to live a sanctified life and grace to pray through are also available in the place of fellowship with the Holy Spirit (2 Kings 6:8-10; Acts 10:9-16; Acts 16:25-39)
To enjoy fellowship with the Holy Spirit, a believer must abstain from sin at all cost and make himself available in His presence (Ephesians 4:30).

CONCLUSION: Fellowship with the Holy Spirit for mutual benefits.

QUESTIONS
1. In what ways is the Holy Spirit relevant in this dispensation?
2. Why is the fellowship with the Holy Spirit compulsory for all believers?

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE: SUNDAY 24TH JANUARY 2021.

THEME: RAPTURE: ARE YOU READY?

MEMORISE:

Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. Revelation 16:15

READ: Matthew 24:36-44

36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,

39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.

44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

MESSAGE:

As Christians, we should be excited that one day, we will leave this sinful world for Heaven - a place where there is no sorrow or sickness, where there is no need to work, where the only thing we will be doing is worshipping God. Heaven is a place of all-round enjoyment. Everyone I know who has had a revelation of Heaven did not want to return to earth because it is just too beautiful and perfect.

Now, let me ask you- are you prepared for the Rapture? If the trumpet were to sound now, would you be on your way to Heaven or would you remain here on earth? Examine your life very well: the thoughts of your heart, the words of your mouth, the things you do with your hands - are they things that will make you qualified for Heaven or will they hold you back if the Rapture takes place today? If you have not been living holy, you are lucky that rapture has not occurred because if it had, you would either be in hell by now or left here on earth to face the Anti-Christ. If I were you, I would take the opportunity to repent now and begin to live holy. The Rapture is not something that you should toy with; it is a matter of eternity - an era without an end. Nothing should be too precious for you to leave so you can make it to Heaven. Jesus said in Mark8:36:

“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”

If your hands will make you lose Heaven, it is better you cut them off than go to hell with two hands. Imagine that you manage to squeeze through the gate of Heaven, but it closes on one of your hands. You would have two options: either to cut off the hand and go in or to go back out with two good hands. Which would you take?

I am sure you would prefer to enter Heaven without that hand. In the same way, you should prefer to sacrifice the pleasure of spending stolen money, you should be able to discipline yourself from engaging in fornication or adultery and stop telling lies so that you can make it to Heaven. Nobody knows when the Rapture will take place or when they would die. Even if the trumpet does not sound today, are you sure you will
still be alive tomorrow? Remember, it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this is the judgement (Hebrews9:27).

KEY POINT:

Nothing should be too difficult for you to drop so as to make Heaven.

*THEME : THE KING SERVANT*

*MEMORISE: _And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all._ Mark 10:44*

*BIBLE READING MATTHEW 20:25-28*

*20:25* . But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.

*20:26.* But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;

*20:27.* And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:

*20:28.* Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give His life a ransom for many.

*MESSAGE*

*“ _I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him_ : Psalm 89:20”* One may think the passage should have read I have found a king, but it says: I have found a servant. God is looking for one who will be a king, yet a servant. In other words, the route to true leadership in any area of life is service. Amongst the Apostles, Paul was the most prominent. His handkerchiefs healed the sick and cast out demons *(Acts 19:12).* Yet, just after the shipwreck on the Island of Melita *(Acts 28:1-10),* it was he who went to fetch firewood for the people who were sitting around the fire. Today, if you ask a Bishop to do the same, he most likely would be offended and say Don’t you know who I am? The hands that cannot labour cannot heal the sick. If God will use you, you must step down from the exalted throne you placed yourself on and learn to serve. When I became born again, I determined to do anything to serve God. One day, we needed to w**d the Church headquarters. Although I was the most educated in the Church at the time, on the set date, I ensured I arrived first at the Church with my very sharp cutlasses to cut the grass. The hands that cut grass then, by God’s grace now heal the sick and raise the dead. To lead is to serve. Those who will lead must consider themselves as less than the least. The lower you are, the higher your promotion. The higher you place yourself; the louder the sound of the crash *(Luke 14:11).* David is regarded as the greatest King ever in Israel; he was however, also known for serving.The one time he stayed back during a war landed him in trouble. Incidentally, it all started from an exalted location in the Palace. Once he realised his mistake, he continued going to war until the people compelled him to stop. That is the kind of person God wants to empower.

*KEY POINT*

You want to become a true leader? Never see yourself as higher than those you are called to serve. That is how to go higher.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE: SATURDAY 13TH JUNE 2020.

THEME: POWER OVER SIN.

MEMORISE:

For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. Matthew 26:28

READ: Galatians 3:20-26

20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.

21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.

22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.

24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

MESSAGE

Many Christians think the law (the Old Testament) is no longer of any effect and thus behave carelessly, claiming that, that, because they are born again, grace covers all their sins. Paul clarifies this in the following Scripture:
“But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.”

The old covenant protected the people against temporal death, poverty, all forms of suffering and bo***ge but the new delivers eternally (Matthew 1:21; 26:28). Your ability to overcome sin is proof that you are a child of God, John the Beloved corroborated this when he said in 1 John 3:9 that “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.”

Are we really children of God? If we still wallow in sin, we remain in the old dispensation and the letter of the law will punish us here and in the afterlife.

The superiority of the new covenant over the old however is that, while the latter puts constraints to prevent sin, the new gives power over it. Romans 6:14 says: “For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.” We therefore have the assurance that grace will work for us. Romans 6:1 however cautions that we cannot remain in sin, expecting grace to abound. Rather, grace empowers us to conquer sin. You do not have any excuse to abide in sin.

ACTION POINT:

Tap into the power of the new covenant to overcome sin.

HYMN 30: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD.

1. When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
o Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2. Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

3. Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

4. But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

5. Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.

1. Let your Light Shine FOR me.
2. Let your Light Shine IN me.
3. Let your Light Shine THROUGH me.
4. Let your Light Shine On my Blind Spot.
5. Let your Light shine on anything covering my light not allowing it to shine.
