HOSANNA IN THE HIGHEST: A MESSAGE OF HOPE
Grace and peace be unto you, dearly beloved of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria (PCN) and the global body of Christ.
As we wave our palm branches today, we are not merely reenacting a historical event; we are declaring a present reality. Palm Sunday marks the triumphal entry of our Lord Jesus Christ into Jerusalem—not on a warhorse of conquest, but on a humble donkey of peace.
THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PALM
For us as Christians, this day is the gateway to Holy Week. It reminds us that Christ’s kingdom operates differently than the kingdoms of this world. His power is found in sacrifice, and His victory is won through love.
As Presbyterians, we hold dearly to the sovereignty of God. Palm Sunday calls us to:
🔹 REFLECT on our own loyalty: Do we crown Him King today only to abandon Him by Friday?
🔹 EMBRACE HUMILITY: Just as Christ chose the lowly path, we are called to serve our communities with a servant’s heart.
🔹 RENEW OUR COVENANT: To follow the One who walked steadfastly toward the Cross for our redemption.
A PRAYER FOR NIGERIA AND THE WORLD
Almighty and Everlasting God, in this Holy Week, we cry "Hosanna" (Save us, we pray!).
We lift up our dear nation, NIGERIA, before Your throne of grace. Lord, have mercy on our land. Heal our economy, still the waves of insecurity, and grant our leaders the wisdom that comes only from above.
We extend this plea for Your world at large. In places of conflict, bring Your peace. In homes of want, bring Your provision.
BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD!
May this week be a period of deep spiritual awakening for you and your household.
His Eminence, Ekpenyong Akpanika
Prelate & General Assembly Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria
