Bible Reading: Ps 124:1-8
Exhortation: Dcn. Russia A. Rume
Message: I Have Escaped
One of the greatest testimonies a child of God can declare is: “I have escaped.”
This statement is not just about survival; it is a declaration of God’s deliverance, protection, mercy, and victory over every trap of the enemy.
Many people entered situations they thought would destroy them, yet by God’s power they came out alive, stronger, wiser, and victorious. When others expected defeat, God made a way of escape.
The Bible says:
“Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.”
— Book of Psalms 124:7
This scripture reveals that escape is not accidental; it is divine intervention. The enemy may set traps, but God has the power to break every snare.
1. I Have Escaped by the Help of God
The psalmist understood that human strength alone could not save him.
“If it had not been the LORD who was on our side… then they had swallowed us up quick.”
— Book of Psalms 124:1–3
Many people can testify:
“I escaped sickness.”
“I escaped destruction.”
“I escaped death.”
“I escaped depression.”
“I escaped the trap of sin.”
“I escaped evil associations.”
Not because they were stronger than others, but because God helped them.
“My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.”
— Book of Psalms 121:2
2. Joseph Escaped Betrayal and Destruction
Joseph was betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and imprisoned. Everything around him suggested destruction, yet God preserved him.
“But the LORD was with Joseph.”
— Book of Genesis 39:21
Joseph escaped bitterness, immorality, discouragement, and destruction because God’s presence remained with him. What the enemy planned for evil, God turned for good.
“Ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good.”
— Book of Genesis 50:20
Sometimes your escape is not immediate removal from trouble, but divine preservation through it.
3. Daniel Escaped the Lions’ Den
Daniel was thrown into the lions’ den because of his faithfulness to God.
Humanly speaking, there was no way out. Yet God intervened.
“My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths.”
— Book of Daniel 6:22
Daniel escaped because prayer, righteousness, and faith connected him to divine protection.
No matter the “lion” confronting your life today — fear, enemies, affliction, or opposition — God is able to preserve you.
4. The Three Hebrew Boys Escaped the Fire
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were thrown into the fiery furnace because they refused to bow to idols.
But God showed up in the fire.
“When thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned.”
— Book of Isaiah 43:2
The fire did not destroy them; instead, it promoted them. Sometimes the very situation meant to consume you becomes the testimony that announces your God.
5. Peter Escaped Prison
Peter was imprisoned and heavily guarded, awaiting ex*****on.
But while the church prayed, God acted.
“And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him… and his chains fell off from his hands.”
— Acts of the Apostles 12:7
Prayer can produce supernatural escape. Chains can break. Closed doors can open. Situations that appear impossible can suddenly change.
6. God Always Makes a Way of Escape
The believer has a covenant of divine escape.
“God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape.”
— First Epistle to the Corinthians 10:13
This means:
Temptation is not your end.
Trials are not permanent.
Battles will not destroy you.
God always has a hidden exit.
Even when you cannot see the way, God has already prepared one.
7. The Greatest Escape Is Salvation
The greatest bo***ge is sin, and the greatest escape is salvation through Jesus Christ.
“Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness.”
— Epistle to the Colossians 1:13
Through Christ:
We escape condemnation.
We escape eternal destruction.
We escape the dominion of sin.
We receive eternal life.
Jesus is the doorway to true freedom.
Signs That God Has Given You Escape
You survived what should have destroyed you.
You still have peace after the storm.
Your faith remains alive despite trials.
Doors still open for you.
You are still standing when many gave up.
That is evidence of divine escape.
What Must We Do to Continue Escaping?
a. Trust God Completely
“The righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”
— Book of Proverbs 18:10
b. Live Prayerfully
“Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation.”
— Gospel of Matthew 26:41
c. Walk in Obedience
Obedience preserves destiny and keeps us under God’s covering.
d. Stay Close to God’s Word
“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”
"I have escaped from the patterns of my Father's house, I have escaped from the rubbish in my Lineage."
