30th Enrolment Service & Reinstallation of the Captain-In-Charge
The story of the Boys’ Brigade Nigeria, 8th Wukari Company, LCC Wapan-Nghaku, is a story of faith, sacrifice, discipline, service and an enduring commitment to the advancement of the Kingdom of God.
Its journey dates back to the 1990s, when the smallest unit of the Boys’ Brigade began taking shape within the Wapan-Nghaku community. What started as a modest gathering of Officers and Boys drawn from the church and its immediate neighbourhood gradually developed into an organised Company, built upon the fundamental values of the Boys’ Brigade: obedience, reverence, discipline and service to God and humanity.
By about 1996, the Company attained national certification, marking a significant milestone in its development and recognition within the wider structure of the Boys’ Brigade Nigeria. Through the years, several distinguished men served as Company-in-Charge, among whom were Sir Barnabas, J. J. Assembo, Lata’a Akaji, Joshua Y. Agyo, and others who gave their time, energy and leadership to nurture the young organisation.
The leadership journey eventually saw Joshua Y. Agyo confirmed as the first Captain-in-Charge of the Company. His confirmation represented an important chapter in the history of the 8th Wukari Company and further strengthened the foundation upon which subsequent generations would build.
A Legacy of Service and Impact
Over the years, the 8th Wukari Company has recorded remarkable achievements. The Company has contributed significantly to the training and development of Officers, Boys, trainers, band members and spiritually grounded young people, many of whom have gone on to make meaningful contributions within the church, the community and society at large.
One particularly remarkable part of the Company's history is its pioneering role in marching band ministry. In the 1990s, the 8th Wukari Company became the first Company in the Wukari Battalion Council to procure a leather marching band. The instrument was not acquired merely as an ornament or for ceremonial purposes. Rather, it became a powerful instrument for evangelism and Christian witness.
The Company was never economical in putting the band to use. From the streets and neighbourhoods of Wukari to communities beyond, the marching band became a means through which the Gospel was proclaimed, Christian gatherings were supported and the presence of the Boys’ Brigade was made known. In its own unique way, the Company demonstrated that music, discipline and youthful service could become powerful tools for advancing the Kingdom of God.
The legacy of the 8th Wukari Company is also reflected in the number of its members who have risen to positions of responsibility within the Boys’ Brigade Nigeria. Some have served as RCC Chairmen, while others have occupied various highly placed positions within the Battalion Council and beyond. Their contributions stand as evidence of the values instilled through the ministry of the Boys’ Brigade.
Raising a New Generation
Today, the 8th Wukari Company continues to stand as a testimony to the enduring relevance of the Boys’ Brigade ministry.
We are blessed with a number of remarkable, disciplined and well-trained young people who are distinguishing themselves in their various endeavours. Many are growing not only as responsible members of the organisation but also as committed Christians, professionals, leaders and contributors to the development of their communities.
This is perhaps one of the greatest measures of the success of the Company: the ability to raise young people who carry the discipline and values of the Boys’ Brigade into every sphere of life.
As we celebrate thirty years of enrolment, we therefore celebrate much more than a number. We celebrate the sacrifices of those who laid the foundation, the commitment of those who sustained the work, and the grace of God that has preserved the Company through the years.
Celebrating Leadership
On this historic occasion, we proudly celebrate Mr. Adi Timothy, who has successfully completed his first tenure as Captain-in-Charge and has been approved for another tenure of service.
His reinstallation represents both a recognition of his service and a renewed call to leadership. In accordance with the provisions of the Boys’ Brigade Nigeria Constitution, as reviewed in 2025, his continuation in office marks another opportunity to serve, mentor, train and provide purposeful leadership to the Officers and Boys of the 8th Wukari Company.
We congratulate him on this milestone and pray for renewed wisdom, strength, grace and courage as he begins another chapter of leadership. May his second tenure build upon the successes of the first and take the Company to greater heights.
Welcoming Our Chaplain
We also joyfully celebrate our spiritual father, Rev. Dr. Mark Ato, who has been installed as the Chaplain of the Boys’ Brigade Nigeria, 8th Wukari Company.
The role of the Chaplain is particularly significant in an organisation whose foundation is deeply rooted in Christian discipleship. We look forward to his spiritual guidance, pastoral counsel and partnership in helping the Company remain firmly anchored in the Word of God.
We pray that his ministry among us will strengthen our faith, deepen our commitment to Christian service and help us remain faithful to the spiritual mandate of the Boys’ Brigade.
Looking Ahead
As we celebrate the past, we must also look confidently towards the future.
The story of the 8th Wukari Company is not finished. The same God who sustained the Company from its humble beginnings in the 1990s continues to lead us today. The responsibility now rests upon us to preserve the legacy handed down to us, improve upon it and pass an even stronger foundation to the generation coming behind us.
With our spirits high, hearts united and purpose strengthened, we shall continue to advance the Kingdom of God through this ministry. We shall continue to train young people in discipline, leadership, Christian character and service. We shall continue to carry the light of Christ into our communities and beyond.
And until the coming of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, may the 8th Wukari Company, LCC Wapan-Nghaku, continue to stand firm as an instrument for the propagation of the Gospel and the raising of godly generations.
