THE “YES” OF EASTER
Dear Brethren, I bring to you today the message of “Yes”. The Yes of Easter. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is God’s ultimate definitive “Yes” to humanity, life and love. It is a message of a victorious affirmation that overcomes the “NO” of death, sin and despair. It is a message of Yes to life over death; a Yes to a new beginning that offers hope for a new life. A Yes that offers second chances, and the promise of eternal life for us. This is a Yes that turns the sorrow of Good Friday into the Joy of a new creation. And so, we come together today to sing with Joy in our hearts the song of Alleluia.
The Lord is truly risen, that is the message of Easter, and we say Yes to that. That God did not abandon him, for He is faithful and through this salvific act, God opens the door of Salvation to each one of us. It is a promise that if we go the way of Jesus, God will raise each one of us to a glory like that of Jesus.
May God never abandon us. Amen.
May God raise each one of us to a glory like that of Jesus. Amen.
A story is told about the Greek philosopher, Epictetus, a slave under the Roman Emperor, who was harshly punished even for his slightest faults. Not a day passed without his receiving a beating. One day the emperor had him beaten too severely that one of his legs broke and he became lame. A friend, who met him found him limping and asked him how he had become lame. With much serenity the philosopher answered, “I am not lame, but it is only my leg.”
A brave and virtuous man is never deterred or disappointed or allowed to be frustrated. We are brave men and women, brave Parishioners. We must not allow the bad governance of our Country Nigeria to frustrate us. We must not allow the NO of despair, of death, of high cost of energy, high cost of living, or fuel to frighten us. The Church, the worshipping community of Our Lady of Fatima, are the risen body of Christ. This is the great truth which fills our faith with meaning. Jesus, who died on the cross, has risen. He has triumphed over death; He has overcome sorrow, anguish and the power of darkness. In him we find everything. Outside of him our life is empty.
May all what we seek from God be “YES” today. Through Christ our lord. Amen.
Our Parish is great, and we are great men and women, and we do great things. This year we shall be celebrating 50 years of our greatness, the Golden Jubilee of our Parish. The committee will be inaugurated this month together with the 2026 Harvest Committee. I therefore appeal to you for your usual support and cooperation.
Thank you for always been there to renders your services to God and to His Church.
May the Peace and love of the Risen Christ be with you now and for ever. Amen.
Very Rev. Msgr. Anthony Erinle.
Easter, 2026.
