DEMOCRACY DAY: NASFAT CHARGES NIGERIAN LEADERS ON TRUTH, CITIZENS ON TRUST IN LEADERSHIP
The pace-setting global Islamic society, Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society (NASFAT), in commemoration of Nigeria's 27th anniversary of uninterrupted democratic governance, has called on leaders at all levels to uphold truth, transparency, and accountability, while urging Nigerians to continue to place their trust in Allah, responsible leadership and democratic institutions.
The society noted that Democracy Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the nation's democratic journey, celebrate its achievements, and renew the collective commitment to national unity, peace, and development. NASFAT stated that the progress recorded over the past 27 years remains a testament to the resilience of Nigerians and the enduring strength of democratic governance.
Speaking on behalf of the society, the President of NASFAT, Alhaji Ayodeji AbdulWahid AbdulRauf, called on the Federal Government to be more deliberate, strategic, and logical in addressing the challenge of terrorism and insecurity across the country. He stressed that terrorists must not be identified as Muslims, emphasizing that terrorism is a grievous sin in Islam and has no basis in the teachings of the religion. According to him, Islam stands for peace, justice, compassion, and the protection of human life.
Alhaji AbdulRauf cited the Holy Qur'an, Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:32), which states: "Whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption done in the land, it is as if he had slain mankind entirely; and whoever saves one, it is as if he had saved mankind entirely." He therefore urged all Nigerians to reject violence, extremism, and divisive tendencies, while working together to strengthen national unity and democratic values.
Meanwhile, the Chief Missioner of NASFAT, Imam Morufdeen AbdulAzeez Onike, offered prayers for Nigeria's peace, stability, and prosperity. He sought Allah's intervention for the safe release of all kidnapped victims and for the restoration of security across the country. He also prayed for Allah's protection over every family, community, and the nation as a whole against all forms of insecurity, violence, and civil unrest. Imam Onike further prayed for wisdom and guidance for leaders, renewed hope for citizens, and continued progress for Nigeria as the nation advances on its democratic journey.
