TODAY IN AG NIGERIA HISTORY๐Ÿ“–

18th May 1988
Reverend Dr. Charles O. Osueke was elected as the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Nigeria at just 46 years old.

He led the church triumphantly for 22 years of growth and impact.

What makes his story remarkable: he was never a Sectional Leader, Presbyter, District Superintendent, or EC member.
He served faithfully as a *General Council Evangelist*, and later as *Director of Missions and Evangelism*, before God lifted him to national leadership.

The history of AG Nigeria is truly incomplete without his name.

He went to be with the Lord on 5th May 2021

Many years ago, we lost a member of our church in Assemblies of God Church Ikenegbu, Owerri, and his death was one of the few deaths that shook me deeply.

He was a police officer, but not the kind people were used to seeing, This was a man who genuinely loved God, A man who carried the gospel of Jesus Christ on his head everywhere he went.

Anywhere you met him, one thing stood out immediately: this man was unashamedly for Jesus, He preached the gospel passionately, Morning evangelism, Evening evangelism, Church programmes.
Street preaching, Anywhere he found himself, he spoke about Christ boldly And honestly, one story he shared years ago while he was alive never left my mind.๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ

One day during a church programme, he told us how he went out very early in the morning for evangelism around his neighborhood. While preaching, according to him, someone intentionally released dogs on him.

He said from afar, he saw the dogs running aggressively towards him. Everybody listening expected him to say he ran away But instead, he said he stood there and spoke the word of God boldly.

According to him, he commanded the dogs in the name of Jesus to sit down and listen to the gospel,
And by the time those dogs got close to him, they sat down there wagging their tails while he continued preaching,That was the kind of man he was,Fearless for God,Completely sold out to the gospel.๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฅน

Then years later, news came that he had gone to be with the Lord,The church was devastated,Everybody grieved deeply.๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ

I attended the burial service, and I remember crying so much that day that I developed a headache afterwards
And At that period in my life, I used to be very afraid of death,Very afraid, Funeral services used to leave me emotional for days,The thought of losing people scared me badly.

And while my father stood to preach during the funeral service that day, he looked around at the grieving congregation, looked at the tears everywhere, and then made a statement that changed something inside me forever.

He said: โ€œYes, we are grieving today, Yes, this man has gone to be with the Lord But one day, every one of us seated here will also die. One day, every one of us will be laid to rest however the most important question is this: what will you be remembered for?โ€

That statement entered my spirit deeply and never left
And strangely, from that day, my fear of death disappeared completely Not because death suddenly became easy to think about, but because I understood something important that day.

Life is not really about how long we stay here, It is about how well we live while we are here.

Years later, this man is gone, but I still remember him as the police officer who preached Jesus everywhere.

I still remember him as the man who stood before angry dogs and kept preaching the gospel.

I still remember him as somebody whose life openly pointed people towards God.

And this morning, I found myself asking myself again:
If the Lord calls me home today, what would I truly be remembered for?

Honestly, I want to be remembered as somebody who used her voice and platform to encourage people.

I want to be remembered as somebody who pointed people towards God.

I want to be remembered as somebody who shared faith, wisdom, hope, and light with her generation.

I want to be remembered as somebody who genuinely loved people and lived intentionally.

And maybe this is a question all of us should ask ourselves from time to time.

If your name is mentioned years after you are gone, what will people honestly remember?

Your kindness?
Your character?
Your generosity?
Your impact?
Your lifestyle?
Your love for God?
Your influence?

Because one day, every one of us will leave this world.
But before that day comes, may our lives carry meanings worth remembering๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Many years ago, while my father was pastoring Assemblies of God Church Ikenegbu in Owerri, Imo State, something happened during one Sunday service that I have never forgotten.

As at that time, our late Daddy Osueke was the General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Nigeria, and my father was serving as the resident pastor of the church and also the District Treasurer of the then Owerri District.

That Sunday morning started like every other Sunday service,Church was full, Sunday school had ended And like we usually do in Assemblies of God churches, everybody gathered back inside the auditorium for what we call Sunday School Summary, where people from the various Sunday school classes come together for a general summary before the main service continues.

Now, while the summary was going on, a lot of members were still outside,Some were discussing, Some were moving around,Some were buying and selling one thing or the other Some were just standing outside instead of being inside the church participating in the service.

And my father noticed itโ€ฆ.Immediately after the Sunday school summary and prayers ended, my father took over the microphone before handing over to the worship team I was still a teenager then, but I remember that morning very clearly.

He spoke seriously about the attitude of coming to church physically but not being fully involved in the worship, He talked about reverence in Godโ€™s house, He talked about orderliness.๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ

He talked about people coming to church prepared and ready to participate fully from beginning to end instead of roaming around the church premises while service was going on.

He specifically mentioned how wrong it was for members to be outside discussing, selling things, or doing unnecessary activities while worship was already taking place inside the auditorium And after speaking, he instructed the ushers to go round immediately and ensure that everybody came inside, Nobody was to remain outside unnecessarily, Everything activities outside had to stop.๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

The ushers moved around the church compound, and within a short time, everywhere became organized.
Members settled inside the church properly and Then my father handed over the microphone to the worship team.

And while the worship team was ministering, something happened that nobody expected.

Daddy Osueke drove into the church compound unannounced, Nobody knew he was coming, My father did not know, The church leaders did not know, There was no prior information, No special preparation, Nothing.๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฅน

He simply decided to visit the church unexpectedly and join the service.

Immediately my father saw him, he welcomed him properly into the service and later handed over the microphone to him.

And one of the first things Daddy Osueke said that morning was that he was impressed, He said as he drove into the church compound, he noticed there was nobody outside, The environment was orderly, Members were inside worshipping God, Everything was properly coordinated.

I remember sitting there quietly that day and watching everything unfold And years later, that memory still carries a powerful message.

Yesterday, while scrolling through social media, I saw a video of the current governor of Abia State walking unannounced into an Assemblies of God church during Motherโ€™s Sunday after inspecting a road project close to the church environment And immediately, this old memory came back to me.๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ

The governor walked into a church that was already organised, Members were worshipping, The atmosphere was orderly, Nobody was running around trying to arrange things because an important visitor had suddenly appeared, Everything was already in place before he entered.

And honestly, there is a lesson in that.โ—๏ธโ—๏ธโ—๏ธ

There is a difference between preparing because somebody important is coming and living prepared at all times.โœ…โœ…โœ…โœ…

Some opportunities do not announce themselves before arriving, Some moments come suddenly, Some doors open unexpectedly And when they do, preparation speaks before explanations do.

That Sunday in Ikenegbu, my father did not put things in order because the General Superintendent was coming, He put things in order because excellence and reverence should already be the standard whether anybody important was visiting or not.

And truly, that lesson applies to every area of life.
Your work, Your character,Your business,Your home,
Your spiritual lifeโ€ฆ..Live prepared.

Do things properly even when nobody is watching and One day, opportunity may walk into your life unannounced.
