Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God,

and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the gospel."

And passing along by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen.

And Jesus said to them, "Follow me and I will make you become fishers of men."

And immediately they left their nets and followed him.

And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets.

And immediately he called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and followed him.

The Blessed Virgin Mary stands as the most powerful evangelist in history. On Earth, her hidden life was a model of virtue as she cared for her Divine Son. Now, as Queen of Heaven, her love continues to overflow as she intercedes for her spiritual children. A profound example of her heavenly mission is the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe to Saint Juan Diego in 1531.

In the wake of the Spanish conquest of Mexico, missionaries sought to evangelize the Indigenous people, many of whom were understandably distrustful. On December 9, 1531, Mary appeared to Juan Diego, a recent convert, on Tepeyac Hill. Speaking his native tongue, she identified herself as the Mother of God and requested that a chapel be built in her honor.

When Juan relayed this to the bishop, a sign was requested. On December 12, Mary appeared again, assuring Juan that his dying uncle was healed. She instructed him to gather roses blooming miraculously on the cold hilltop. When Juan presented these roses to the bishop, an incredible image of the Virgin, exactly as he had seen her, was imprinted on his tilma, or cloak.

The result was astounding. In the following decade, this miraculous event led to the conversion of millions of Indigenous people to the Catholic faith. Mary’s personal visit confirmed the truth of the Gospel and showed her deep love for them. Today, let us reflect on the tender love of our Blessed Mother, who desires the salvation of all, and pray for her intercession to bring God’s saving message to the entire world.

In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth,

to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.

And he came to her and said, "Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!"

But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and considered in her mind what sort of greeting this might be.

And the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.

And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.

He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David,

and he will reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there will be no end."

And Mary said to the angel, "How shall this be, since I have no husband?"

And the angel said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.

And behold, your kinswoman Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son; and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren.

For with God nothing will be impossible."

And Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her.

Jesus gives us the powerful image of the Good Shepherd, who rejoices upon finding his one lost sheep after a diligent search. We are that sheep whenever we stray. When we sin, it's easy to believe the lie that God is angry. But the truth is that our Good Shepherd seeks us with a passionate, determined love. He doesn't wait to condemn; His only desire is to find us, lift us up, and carry us back to His fold.

This divine mercy must also be our model for how we treat others lost in sin. Instead of judging, which can be a temptation as we grow in faith, we must become instruments of the Good Shepherd. While never downplaying sin, our goal should be to find the lost, love them unconditionally, and offer to carry them home. A person should never be rejected because of their sin, even if they remain attached to it.

Reflect today on the Lord's burning compassion for you. Never hesitate to turn back to Him and let Him carry you home, rejoicing. For those you know who have strayed—perhaps from Mass or into a sinful lifestyle—do not judge them. Instead, love them and become an instrument of the Heart of Jesus, so that through you, they may feel the depth of His love for them.

What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray?

And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray.

So it is not the will of my Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.

As the Church year draws to a close, today's Gospel prepares us for Christ's final coming. Jesus highlights two spiritual dangers that can leave us unprepared for our judgment day: "carousing and drunkenness" and "the anxieties of daily life."

The first danger, "carousing," points to more than just alcohol; it signifies a life seeking satisfaction in self-indulgence and fleeting pleasures. We all seek happiness, but many chase it in things that ultimately leave us empty. True, profound joy is found only in one place: the presence of God alive in our souls.

When the season of fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants, to get his fruit;

and the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and stoned another.

Again he sent other servants, more than the first; and they did the same to them.

Be vigilant at all times and pray That you may have the strength to stand before the Son of Man.

As Heaven and earth pass away, Jesus assures us His words will not. This isn't an end, but a renewal to "New Heavens and a New Earth." God's Word is our eternal constant, the unshakable foundation in life's uncertainties. It is the Living Word, God Himself. Build your life on this rock through daily prayer and meditation.
Let His Word be your nourishment and firmest ground, preparing you for His final, permanent Kingdom.

So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near.

Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away till all has taken place.

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
