OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE: SUNDAY FEBRUARY 4TH 2024

TOPIC: THE HOLY GHOST BAPTISM AND POWER 1

MEMORISE:
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” – (Acts 1:8)

READ: ACTS 3:1-8 (KJV)

1 Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.

2 And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;

3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms.

4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.

5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.

6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ancle bones received strength.

8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.

MESSAGE:

Today's Bible reading passage starts with 'Now'. This implies that after the incident that happened before, something new is happening. Acts 2 tells us about the day of Pentecost and how everyone at the upper room was filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. Now then refers to something that was about to happen in the lives of Peter and John as a result of that incident. Clearly, that was the working of miracles.

When you get baptised in the Holy Ghost, you carry divine power within you. You have the power to work miracles, heal the sick and raise the dead. Unfortunately, many Christians become baptised and are satisfied with just speaking in tongues. You received more than that when you were baptised in the Holy Spirit; you received the power to go out and do the work of God.

Many years ago, I prayed to God for many weeks for power to do His work, but He didn't respond. At last, one night, He told me to keep quiet and began to ask me some questions. "Have you been baptised in the Holy Ghost?” I said, "Yes". He said, "What is written in Acts 1:8?" I knew it offhand, so I quoted it to Him. Then He said, "You received power after your baptism in the Holy Ghost." I responded, "Lord, but I don't feel powerful." He replied, "Did I say the just shall live by feelings?"

The next morning, a sick child was brought to me for prayers. I was afraid, but then I remembered the conversation I had with God the previous night, so I laid my hands on the child and prayed. Not long after, I felt the child go numb, and I thought to myself, "Has this child died?" When I finished praying and opened my eyes, I realised that the child was sound asleep. The mother said that the child had not slept in days, but now, she was sure that God had healed her child.

Go out and use the power that God has already given to you, if not, it will remain dormant. When I realised that I had been empowered by God, I was hungry to keep laying hands on the sick. That is how I've gotten to the stage where many great miracles happen through me today. I have been using the power God gave me since I was baptised in the Holy Spirit and it has been growing since then.

KEY POINT:
If you have received the Holy Ghost baptism with the evidence of speaking in tongues, begin to use the power God gave to you.

INTRODUCTION: How far a man will go in life depends on the foundation. Abraham was from a family of unbelievers that is, idol worshippers but God called him out in Genesis 12:1 to walk before Him. The sure foundation of our life is Jesus Christ.

1. Father, I thank You for the family through which You brought me to this world, in Jesus name. - Ps.103:1-3

2. Father, I repent of every generational sin committed by my ancestors. Let the
blood of Jesus wasch us clean, in Jesus Name. - Ps.106:6

3. Father, please show me Your mercy and touch the foundation of my life with Your hand of power in Jesus Name. - Rom. 9:15-16

4. Father, please visit my family with Your mercy, in Jesus Name. - Lam. 3:22

5. Father, please break the stronghold of sin in my family and lineage in Jesus Name.

*MEMORISE:*

*“And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.” - (Matthew 21:14)*

*READ: MATTHEW 12:9-13 (KJV)*

9 And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue:

10 And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.

11 And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?

12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

13 Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.

*MESSAGE:*

The temple is not just the house of prayer; it is also the house of healing. In Matthew 21:14, after Jesus chased all those who were buying and selling in the temple, saying, "My house shall be called the house of prayer," the Bible says that the sick came unto Him in the temple and were healed.

In our Bible reading for today, Jesus went into the synagogue and met a man with a withered hand. There were some scholars who felt that people shouldn't be healed on sabbath days. When they asked if He would heal the man with a withered hand, He told the man to stretch his hand, and he was healed. Note that the man did not ask to be prayed for; just seeing a case like that in the temple compelled Jesus to heal him. Some people have challenged me before, saying: "You people who claim that you have the power to heal, why don't you go to the hospital and heal everybody there? Why do they have to come to the church to be healed?" Truly, God can heal anywhere, but He specifically heals in the temple. There are many people who, by just stepping foot on Redemption City, got their healings. Nobody prayed for them; the mere fact that they had entered God's temple brought them their healing.

Going to God's temple regularly is like going to the doctor regularly. Even when you are feeling well, and you go to see him, he will examine you, and whatever strange thing he finds in your body, he will deal with it. There are people that are carrying one sickness or the other in their bodies that they don't even know about yet. When you go to church, and the power of God falls on you, such sicknesses disappear because you have come to a place of healing. This is why I wonder if people know what they are missing when they decide to stay at home and watch a church service on TV. If you are far from the place of worship and God sees that you sincerely will like to attend physically but cannot be there, that is a different case. However, when you decide to stay at home and connect to a service that you could have easily attended, you cannot get the same atmosphere as those who are in the service physically.

*KEY POINT:*
Don't ever miss any appointment to be in church; God might decide to use the next church meeting to bring about the turning point you have been waiting for.

PRAYER FOR OUR ECONOMY AND BUSINESS

INTRODUCTION
The power and influence of a nation depends on her business and economy. It is an entire regime and networking of production, distributions to the end consumers of goods and services at local, regional national and international markets. God is interested that our economy and business activities are carried out in a decent and godly environment.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, we thank You for the economy of our nation, in Jesus name. - Ps. 106:1

2. Father, we thank You for the privilege of being a partaker of your kingdom economy, in Jesus name. - 1 Tim. 4:4-5

3. Father, thank You, for being in control of the economy and businesses of our nation, in Jesus name. - 1 Chro. 16:8

4. Father, we thank You God, that the economy of Your church is standing, in Jesus name. - Ps. 95:2

5. Father, deliver us from all forms of evil and unrighteousness in business life in Jesus name. - Lev. 19:35-37

6. Father, help the economy and businesses in our nation to be done in righteousness in Jesus name. - Prov 14:34
