: CALL FOR URGENT INVESTIGATION INTO ALLEGED HIJAB INCIDENT AT A POLLING UNIT IN OSOGBO

Reports emerging from the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election indicate that a female voter, identified as Saka Sekina, allegedly broke down in tears after an INEC official at Ward 8, Polling Unit 9, Osogbo Local Government Area, reportedly asked her to remove her hijab before she could be captured and accredited to vote.

According to the report, the voter had reportedly waited for more than six hours before reaching the accreditation stage. She stated that her hijab had previously been accepted during her NIN capture and questioned why she should now be required to remove it before participating in the electoral process.

This allegation deserves urgent, impartial and transparent investigation by the relevant federal authorities, particularly INEC and the appropriate security and oversight institutions.

The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended, Section 38(1) guarantees every person freedom of thought, conscience and religion, including the freedom to manifest and practise their religion.

Furthermore, Section 42(1) prohibits discrimination on the basis of religion and protects citizens from being subjected to restrictions that are not imposed on citizens of other religions.

The Electoral Act 2022, Section 58(4) also provides that the exercise of powers concerning conduct at polling units must not be enforced in a manner that prevents an otherwise eligible voter from having an opportunity to vote.

At the same time, electoral officials have legitimate responsibilities concerning voter identification and accreditation. INEC's published election-day guidance provides for orderly accreditation and voting, while the law gives the Presiding Officer authority to regulate admission and maintain order at the polling unit.

Therefore, the central question is not whether INEC should verify a voter's identity. It is whether such verification can be conducted lawfully and respectfully without unnecessarily infringing upon a citizen's constitutionally protected religious practice.

We respectfully call upon:

1. The Federal Government of Nigeria to take note of the allegation and ensure that citizens' fundamental rights are protected during elections.

2. INEC to investigate the conduct of the officials involved and publicly clarify the lawful procedure applicable when a voter wearing a hijab undergoes BVAS accreditation.

3. The relevant security and human-rights authorities to ensure that no citizen is intimidated, humiliated or unlawfully prevented from exercising the constitutional right to participate in an election.

4. INEC officials nationwide to receive clear instructions on handling religious clothing and other legitimate forms of religious observance during voter accreditation.

5. All political, religious and community leaders to encourage peaceful and lawful reporting of electoral complaints rather than confrontation.

This is not a call for preferential treatment for Muslims or any other religious group. It is a call for equal protection under the law, respect for religious freedom, dignity of the citizen and confidence in Nigeria's democratic institutions.

Any allegation of misconduct should be properly investigated, and conclusions should be based on verified facts rather than assumptions.

WHO WAS GOD BEFORE JESUS WAS BORN?

A Question Every Believer Should Consider

Before Jesus was conceived, who was God?

While Mary was pregnant with Jesus, was God inside her womb?

After Jesus was born, did God need to be breastfed?

If Jesus is God Himself, then these questions deserve a clear and honest answer.

1. GOD EXISTED BEFORE JESUS WAS BORN

The Bible teaches that Jesus was born from Mary:

Matthew 1:20

“That which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.”

If Jesus was conceived and born, then there was a time when Jesus had not yet been born.

But God has always existed.

Psalm 90:2

“From everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.”

2. JESUS WAS IN MARY'S WOMB

According to the Bible, Mary conceived Jesus and carried him in her womb.

Luke 1:31

“And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.”

So, was God Himself being carried in Mary's womb?

Was the Almighty dependent upon a human mother for nourishment and protection?

3. JESUS WAS BORN AS A BABY

Jesus was born, wrapped in cloth, and laid in a manger.

Luke 2:7

“And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger.”

A newborn baby is dependent upon his mother.

Jesus therefore experienced human birth, infancy, hunger, thirst, sleep, and growth.

Luke 2:52

“And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.”

4. WHAT ABOUT BREASTFEEDING?

The Bible does not explicitly say, “Mary breastfed Jesus.” However, Jesus was genuinely born as a human child, and Scripture describes Him as an infant. It would therefore be entirely consistent with His infancy that He received the normal care and nourishment of a baby.

The Qur'an explicitly confirms that mothers breastfeed their children:

Qur'an 2:233

“Mothers shall breastfeed their children for two complete years, for those who wish to complete the nursing.”

The Qur'an also teaches that Allah is completely independent of His creation:

Qur'an 112:2

اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ
“Allah, the Eternal Refuge, the One upon whom all depend.”

THE CENTRAL QUESTION

If Jesus was conceived in Mary's womb, born as a baby, dependent upon His mother, grew in wisdom and stature, ate, drank, slept, and prayed to God, then how can He Himself be the Almighty God who created Mary and sustains the entire universe?

Jesus himself said:

John 17:3

“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”

And Jesus prayed to God:

Matthew 26:39

“O my Father... not as I will, but as thou wilt.”

Islam teaches that Jesus, Isa ibn Maryam عليه السلام, was a mighty messenger and Messiah, born miraculously to Mary, but he was not God.

Qur'an 5:72

“They have certainly disbelieved who say, ‘Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary.’”

Qur'an 5:75

“The Messiah, son of Mary, was not but a messenger of Allah... They both used to eat food.”

The One who needs no food, no mother, no sleep, and no protection is the Creator.

Qur'an 2:255

“Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep.”

REFLECTION

Jesus was born.

God was not born.

Jesus was carried in a womb.

God does not depend upon creation.

Jesus prayed to God.

God is the One who is prayed to.

Jesus ate food.

God does not need food.

So the question remains:

Who was God before Jesus was born, while Jesus was in Mary's womb, and when Jesus was an infant?

Reflect sincerely. Seek the truth from the Qur'an and authentic revelation, not merely from inherited assumptions.

THE ORIGIN AND DEVELOPMENT OF ISLAMIC CREED (AQIDAH)

The knowledge of Tawhid (Islamic monotheism) and Iman (faith) was brought by all the Prophets, peace and blessings be upon them, and completed through our final Prophet, Muhammad ﷺ.

The Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, learned this knowledge directly from the Prophet ﷺ and transmitted it to those who came after them. At that time, they did not need to compile separate books on creed because the Qur’an, the Sunnah, and the teachings of the Prophet ﷺ were already preserved and clearly understood among them.

Later, scholars compiled major collections of Ḥadīth, including the Sahihi collections, Sunan, and other works. These books contain numerous authentic narrations and reports concerning Islamic beliefs and matters of creed.

As theological deviations and sects emerged, including the Jahmiyyah, Mu'attilah, and various Shiʿah groups, scholars began to formally compile works specifically addressing the creed of Ahl al-Sunnah wa’l-Jama'ah. This became necessary to preserve the authentic teachings of Islam and to refute distortion, false claims, and misguided interpretations.

Among the early examples is the treatise attributed to Imam Malik ibn Anas (d. 179 AH) concerning al-Qadar (Divine Decree), which he wrote to his student Abdullah ibn Wahb al-Misri (d. 197 AH).

Key Lesson:
The formal compilation of books on Islamic creed was not a new religion or a new source of belief. Rather, it was an effort by scholars to preserve, explain, and defend the beliefs already established in the Qur’an and authentic Sunnah.

ALLAH’S PLAN IS THE BEST

Sometimes, we may not understand why Allah allows certain things to happen in our lives. But as believers, we trust that His knowledge is perfect, His wisdom is beyond our understanding, and His plan is always better than our own.

Allah says:

“Perhaps you dislike a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. Allah knows, and you do not know.”
Qur’an 2:216

Trust Allah. Be patient with His decree, continue to make du‘ā, and never lose hope in His mercy.

Allah’s plan is always wiser than ours.

THE DANGER OF FALSE REASONING AND THE SUPERIORITY OF OBEDIENCE

A commonly circulated story attributed to Imām al-Shafiʿi رحمه الله tells of someone asking:

“How can Iblis be punished with fire when he was created from fire?”

The response illustrates an important lesson: being created from something does not mean that one cannot be harmed or punished by it.

Allah says:

﴿قَالَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْهُ خَلَقْتَنِي مِنْ نَارٍ وَخَلَقْتَهُ مِنْ طِينٍ﴾
“He said, ‘I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay.’”
Qur’an 7:12

LESSONS

1. Do not allow faulty reasoning to challenge clear revelation.

2. Human intellect is valuable, but it must remain subject to Allah’s revelation.

3. Pride and arrogance can lead a person away from obedience.

4. Superiority is not determined by the material of one’s creation, but by obedience to Allah and righteousness.

5. A sincere believer seeks the truth, rather than merely seeking to win an argument.

Do you believe Jesus is God?
Where did Jesus himself plainly say, I am God, worship me as God?

A Question for Christians: Is Jesus Truly God?

If Jesus is God, please consider these questions from the Bible:

1. Who is greater, Jesus or God?

Jesus said:

“The Father is greater than I.”
John 14:28

If Jesus is the Almighty God, how can the Father be greater than him?

2. Who knew more, Jesus or the Father?

Jesus said concerning the Last Hour:

“No one knows… not even the Son, but only the Father.”
Mark 13:32

How can Jesus be the Almighty God if the Father knows something that Jesus does not?

3. Who did Jesus pray to?

The Bible says:

“He fell with his face to the ground and prayed.”
Matthew 26:39

If Jesus is God, was he praying to himself?

4. Who sent Jesus?

Jesus repeatedly spoke of God as the One who sent him:

“This is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.”
John 17:3

Jesus distinguishes between “the only true God” and himself as the one sent by God.

5. Who raised Jesus from the dead?

The Bible says:

“God raised him from the dead.”
Acts 13:30

If Jesus is God Almighty, why does the Bible describe God as the One who raised him?

6. What did Jesus call God?

After his resurrection, Jesus said:

«“I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.”
John 20:17»

Jesus explicitly speaks of “my God.”

The Question

Christians may point to verses such as John 1:1, John 20:28, Titus 2:13 and Hebrews 1:8. These passages deserve careful examination.

But the central question remains:

If Jesus is Almighty God, why does Jesus pray to God, call the Father “the only true God,” say the Father is greater than him, say the Father knows something he does not know, and call the Father “my God”?

Let us examine the Bible honestly, verse by verse, rather than beginning with a doctrine and searching only for verses that support it.

“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.”
