FAITH FOR TODAY
DENNIS OSAS
ZEPHANIAH 3 VS 12
23RD JULY 2025
“I will also leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the Lord.” — Zephaniah 3:12
This verse speaks of a faithful remnant—a group of people who remain humble, dependent, and loyal to God even after a time of judgment and purification. While the proud and rebellious are removed, God preserves the meek, the broken, and the sincere. These are not the wealthy or powerful by the world’s standards, but those who recognize their need for God and put their trust in His name.
This “afflicted and poor people” refers not only to material poverty but to spiritual humility—a heart posture that acknowledges total dependence on the Lord. In a world that often celebrates self-sufficiency, this verse reminds us that God values those who lean on Him, not themselves.
God promises that these people will remain “in the midst of thee”—meaning His presence will dwell among them. He’s not looking for the biggest or the best, but for those who are humble, faithful, and devoted.
Zephaniah 3:12 is a call to humility and trust. It assures us that no matter how small or insignificant we may feel, God sees, God preserves, and God delights in those who fully rely on Him.
Prayer Point:
Lord, help me to walk in humility and to trust in Your name alone. Strip away pride, self-reliance, and anything that keeps me from depending fully on You. Let me be counted among the faithful remnant who dwell in Your presence and live to honor You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
