Man Is Created as a Spirit Being
Opening Hook (Imagine This...)
Imagine someone gives you a brand-new smartphone—the most expensive model available.
It has an excellent camera, powerful processor, and amazing features. But instead of charging it, you polish the screen every day. You buy a beautiful case for it. You clean it carefully.
Yet it never turns on.
The problem is not the phone's appearance; the problem is that it has no power.
Many people spend their entire lives taking care of the body and feeding the mind, but completely neglect the spirit—the very part that gives true life and fellowship with God.
Today we will discover that you are not merely a body with a spirit. You are first a spirit being, created by God, living in a body, and possessing a soul.

Introduction
When people describe themselves, they often point to what can be seen:
"I am tall."
"I am old."
"I am handsome."
"I am Nigerian."
But none of these describe the deepest part of who we are.
The Bible reveals that man was created with three parts:
- Spirit
- Soul
- Body
Understanding this changes how we relate to God and how we understand ourselves.

Principle Sentence
Man's body connects him to the physical world, his soul enables him to think and choose, but his spirit is the part created to know, receive, and fellowship with God.

1. God Created Man in His Image
Genesis 1:26–27
God said,
«"Let us make man in our image, after our likeness..."»
God is not flesh.
Jesus said in John 4:24
«"God is a Spirit..."»
Therefore, being made in God's image cannot primarily refer to physical appearance.
It means that man possesses a spiritual nature capable of relating to God.
The body resembles the earth.
The spirit resembles its Creator.

2. Man Became Alive When God Breathed Into Him
Genesis 2:7
«"The LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul."»
Notice the order.
First:
God formed the body from dust.
The body alone was lifeless.
Then:
God breathed the breath of life.
Life came from God Himself.
The body did not create life.
Life entered from God.

3. Man Is Spirit, Soul, and Body
1 Thessalonians 5:23
«"...your whole spirit and soul and body..."»
Paul clearly mentions three distinct parts.
The Body
- connects us with the physical world.
- sees
- hears
- touches
- walks
The Soul
- thinks
- reasons
- remembers
- feels
- makes decisions
The Spirit
- knows God
- communes with God
- receives God's life
- is the deepest part of man.

4. God Speaks to Our Spirit
Romans 8:16
«"The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit..."»
Notice:
God's Spirit communicates with our spirit.
Not first through emotions.
Not first through our senses.
This explains why spiritual truth cannot always be understood by human reasoning alone.

5. Spiritual Things Are Spiritually Understood
1 Corinthians 2:14
«"The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God..."»
A person may be highly educated and still fail to understand God's truth if they rely only on natural understanding.
God reveals Himself to our spirit.
That is why prayer, worship, and Scripture are more than intellectual exercises—they are spiritual fellowship.

6. Our Spirit Gives Life to the Body
James 2:26
«"For as the body without the spirit is dead..."»
Death occurs when the spirit leaves the body.
The body returns to dust.
But the spirit continues to exist before God.
This reminds us that our physical body is temporary, but our spirit has eternal significance.

If you spend hours every day feeding your body and mind, how much time do you spend feeding your spirit?
What part of you receives the greatest attention?

Practical Application
Feed your spirit by:
- Reading and meditating on God's Word.
- Spending time in prayer.
- Worshipping God sincerely.
- Walking in obedience to His Spirit.
- Fellowshipping with other believers.
As your spirit grows stronger, your thoughts, choices, and actions begin to reflect God's character.

Conclusion
You are more than what people see.
Your body is only the earthly house.
Your soul expresses your personality.
But your spirit is the deepest part of who you are—the part created by God to know Him.
When we understand that we are spirit beings, we stop living only for temporary things and begin investing in what has eternal value.
May we care for our spirit as diligently as we care for our body, so that our whole spirit, soul, and body may honor the One who created us.
