Please let all our discussions today focus on education.

"Transforming the Education Mountain: Focus on Excellence and Integrity"*

Scripture:* Proverbs 22:6 - "Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it."

*Quote:* "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." - Nelson Mandela

*Sermon:*

Today, let's focus on the education mountain, a crucial realm that shapes the minds and futures of our children. Education is a powerful tool that can transform lives, communities, and nations. However, corruption and challenges in our education system threaten to undermine this potential.

We must recognize the importance of integrity, transparency, and accountability in education. As leaders, teachers, and stakeholders, we are called to create an environment that fosters academic excellence, moral values, and holistic development.

Corruption in Nigeria's education sector is a pervasive issue that affects the quality of education, access to educational resources, and the overall development of the country. Here are some key aspects of corruption in Nigeria's education system:

*Forms of Corruption:*

- *Illegal Charges*: Schools levy unauthorized fees on students, making education inaccessible to many, especially the poor.
- *Bribery for Grades*: Teachers and public officials accept bribes in exchange for good grades or exam results.
- *Embezzlement of Funds*: Funds meant for educational resources, infrastructure, and teacher training are diverted into private pockets.
- *Nepotism and Favoritism*: Teachers and officials show favoritism in hiring, promotions, and admissions, often based on personal connections rather than merit.
- *Sextortion*: Teachers or officials exploit their power to sexually exploit students in exchange for grades, admissions, or other educational benefits ΒΉ.

*Consequences:*

- *Poor Quality Education*: Corruption leads to inadequate infrastructure, poorly trained teachers, and insufficient resources, resulting in subpar education.
- *Inequality and Inaccessibility*: Corruption exacerbates existing inequalities, making education inaccessible to many, particularly the poor and marginalized.
- *Increased Poverty*: Corruption in education perpetuates poverty, as those who cannot afford bribes or access quality education are left behind.
- *Security Risks*: The high number of out-of-school children contributes to security challenges, such as Boko Haram and other violent groups.

*Statistics:*

- Over 13 million Nigerian children of school-going age are not in school, according to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
- The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) puts the figure at 10.5 million.
- Nigeria's federal government allocated only 7% of its national budget to education in 2018, far below the UNESCO-recommended minimum of 25% Β².

*Solutions:*

- *Increased Funding*: Allocate sufficient funds to education and ensure transparent, accountable management of resources.
- *Sensitization and Awareness*: Educate stakeholders on the dangers of corruption in education and promote a culture of integrity.
- *Effective Monitoring*: Establish robust monitoring systems to track the use of educational resources and prevent embezzlement

Let us pray for our education system, that it may be a beacon of hope and transformation, equipping our children with the knowledge, skills, and character needed to succeed.

*Prayer Points:*

1. Pray for integrity and transparency in education administration and policy-making.
2. Ask for wisdom and discernment for educators, leaders, and policymakers.
3. Pray for sufficient funding and resources for schools and educational institutions.
4. Ask for protection and support for students, especially those vulnerable to exploitation.
5. Pray for a culture of accountability and responsibility in education.

May our education system be a source of hope and transformation, empowering our children to become agents of positive change in their communities and the world.

TURNING POINT 2025: A Call to National Repentance for National Transformation

As Nigeria heads towards her 70th year we believe it’s time to pause, reflect, and realign. TURNING POINT 2025 is a solemn, one-day prayer initiative calling Nigerians to repentance β€” especially for the sin of corruption as a spiritual foundation for true national transformation.

This is a call to humility, unity, and intercession β€” to cry out to God on behalf of our beloved country, for the sake of our future and generations yet unborn.
