*Amos 7:1-6*
ยน _Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king's mowings._
ยฒ _And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord GOD, forgive, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small._
ยณ _The LORD repented for this: It shall not be, saith the LORD._
โด _Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me: and, behold, the Lord GOD called to contend by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and did eat up a part._
โต _Then said I, O Lord GOD, cease, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small._

Amos was one of the shepherds of Tekoa, a city in the Southern Kingdom of Judah and a dresser of sycamore trees. It was during his business trips to sell his ware in Samaria, capital of the 10 northern kingdoms, that God called him to be a prophet and to deliver His message to the people who were neck-deep in sin of oppression of the poor by the rich; hatred for the righteous; robbing the poor of their means of livelihood, perversion of justice and pride, which was at the highest peak.
Therefore, God showed Amos what He would do to the sinful and unrepentant nation of Israel. In our passage for today, God showed Amos locusts eating up what had been planted. Amos, pleaded that God should have mercy and forgive His people; and God repented from the evil that would have befallen the land.
The covid-19 that ravaged the world recently was another warning to the world now engulfed in heinous crimes and sins worse than those committed in S***m and Gomorrah. Today in several countries of the world, women marry women and men โmarryโ men. In some, a son may marry his mother or a father having children from his own daughter! All these are abominable to God Almighty.
It is the duty of the beloved to stand in the gap for their nations as Prophet Amos did. Christ wants us to Intercede for others as He is doing for us incessantly and persistently in the presence of God the Father. God is always merciful and He wants all to repent and come back to Him. He is looking for a man to stand in the gap for Nigeria. Will you make yourself available?
