The Paradoxes Of The Cross

The cross of Christ is the greatest of all paradoxes.

* The cross is the most tragic event in the history of the world, YET the most wonderful thing that ever happened.

* It is the saddest spectacle man ever beheld, YET out of it has come the greatest joy.

* The cross is Satan's greatest victory and Christ's most humiliating defeat, YET it is the most stunning defeat Satan ever suffered and the most glorious victory Christ ever won.

* It is the greatest exhibition of divine justice in condemning sin, YET the most wonderful demonstration of divine mercy in pardoning sin.

* The cross is God's greatest manifestation of hatred for sin, YET His supreme proof of love for the sinner.

* It is the darkest hour in history, YET it is the time of greatest light.

* In the cross we see man's hatred for Christ, YET we see Christ's love for man.

* The cross, from man’s standpoint, is foolishness; YET from God’s perspective, it is the wisdom and power for salvation. (I Cor. 1:18)

God Has Shown How Powerful Wisdom Can Be

Proverbs 3:19-20…The LORD by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens; by his knowledge the deeps broke open, and the clouds drop down the dew.

Do you wonder just how much an asset wisdom will be to you? Wonder no more.
God created, set in order and continues to sustain the entire physical universe, including this earth on which we stand…all by wisdom.
Don’t worry, our gains in getting wisdom will never max out…our getting wisdom (if from above) will never disappoint us later.
We are never, ever going to regret the attention we give to getting wisdom. Just write it in stone…Wisdom will never disappoint.
Oh, the great things we could do and can do and will do, if we will but get wisdom.
Say it with me…GET WISDOM!

LESSONS FROM THE ECLIPSE

Have you seen a solar eclipse? Isn't it fascinating? I think of a number of things in connection with it and thought I might share them with you now.

First, I am impressed by the phenomenon called orbiting. The earth's revolutions around the sun and the moon's orbit of the earth is truly amazing! Perfect positioning and movement. Isn't it interesting how that every month there is a passing of the moon between the earth and the sun but only once in a great while that it causes this visual blockage to the world.

And that brings me to the second thing...the predictability of the next one. Man knows to the very minute when the next such eclipse will take place. The next one is this coming Monday, August 21, 2017. That is precision to the "enth" degree.

Last of all, while watching the eclipse with the aid of two pieces of paper, with a small hole in one, I think how such a bright object as the sun is being darkened by a much lesser object, the moon. The sun exceeds the moon in glory by far, but is "hidden" by the lesser nonetheless. Likewise, Christ"s glory can be hidden from the eyes of the world by our lesser lights if we are not living as we ought.

Titus 2:10 says we can adorn the doctrine of God. We should present the gospel in an attractive way, in the most favorable light possible. Implied is the opposite. We can so behave ourselves as to "hide" the beauty of the glorious light of the gospel. Romans 2:17-24 describes some who see themselves as spiritual teachers, guides and lights, but by their hypocrisy actually give cause for others to blaspheme God. Ungodly behavior by those professing to be people of God can eclipse the Son (pun intended).

Though we may see ourselves as just one person and small when compared to the great God, still we can have the same effect as a solar eclipse. Others may not see the light of the Savior because of our "darkness" getting in the way.

Quotes Of Abraham Lincoln

If I were two-faced, would I be wearing this one?

No man is good enough to govern another man without that other's consent.

Am I not destroying my enemies when I make friends of them?

You have to do your own growing no matter how tall your grandfather was.

Whatever you are, be a good one.

Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.

Whenever I hear anyone arguing for slavery, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally.

You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.

You cannot help small men by tearing down big men.

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.

You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.

You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income.

You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatreds.

You cannot establish security on borrowed money.

You cannot build character and courage by taking away a man’s initiative and independence.

You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.

The Clock Of Life

The Clock of Life is wound but once
and no man has the power;
To say, just when the hands will stop,
at late or early hour.

To lose one's wealth is sad indeed,
To lose one's health is more;
To lose one's soul is such a loss
That no man can restore.

Now is the only time you own,
So live and toil with will;
Place no faith in your tomorrow,
For the clock may then be still.

Love Them Anyway
1. People are illogical, unreasonable, and self‑centered. Love them anyway.
2. If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Do good anyway.
3. If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies. Succeed anyway.
4. The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.
5. Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable. Be honest and frank anyway.
6. The biggest men with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men with the smallest ideas. Think big anyway.
7. People favour underdogs but follow only top dogs. Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
8. What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight. Build anyway.
9. People really need help, but may attack you if you do help them. Help them anyway.
10. Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth. Give the best you have anyway.
