*📖 TEXT: MATTHEW 28:18–20

"Who gives authority in your home; Is it Daddy or Mummy? Who gives authority at school; Teacher or Principal?
Apart from these group of people above, have you ever wondered who has power in the world. Is it the presidents, rich people, famous stars, or social media influencer?
Many people think power comes from money, position or popularity.

*TOPIC: CHURCH VESTMENTS

*TEXT: EXODUS 28

*BIBLE BACKGROUND: Exodus 28 records God’s instructions for the priests’ sacred garments, especially Aaron’s high priestly attire. Made for glory and for beauty, the ephod and breastpiece symbolised holiness and Israel’s representation before God. The chapter emphasises consecration, worship, and God’s desire for order and sacred service among His people.

*AIM: TO LET YOUNG PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THE VESTMENTS USED IN OUR WORSHIP

🛑. *Introduction:

Vestments are sacred pieces of clothing worn by bishops, priests, deacons, lay readers, servers, and choir members during the worship services of the Church (Liturgy).

They hold deep symbolic meanings and serve various functions in Christian worship. Vestments enhance reverence, order, beauty, and solemnity in the house of God.

🛑. *Historical Significance

Church vestments originated from Old Testament priestly attire as recorded in Exodus 28.

God commanded Moses to make holy garments for Aaron and his sons for glory and beauty (Exodus 28:2).

Over centuries, vestments evolved to reflect Christian worship, order, and identity (1 Corinthians 14:40).

🛑. *Theological Significance

Church vestments:

Symbolically represent clergy roles and responsibilities.

Remind worshippers of the sacredness of God’s presence.

Reflect liturgical seasons through color changes.

Enhance worship through beauty and solemnity.

Engage the senses and focus the congregation on God’s transcendence.

Serve as teaching tools through visual symbols.

Reflect cultural and denominational traditions across Christianity.

🛑 *Underlying Principle*

The primary purpose of vestments is to enhance worship and represent theological truths.

They are a visual expression of faith, reverence, holiness, and dedication to God.

🛑. *Anglican Eucharistic Vestments:

Anglican clergy wear the following vestments:

1. *Amice:

A white linen garment that covers the priest’s collar.
It represents the helmet of salvation, reminding the priest of protection and readiness to proclaim the Gospel.

2. *Alb:

A long white garment worn by priests.
It symbolizes purity, dignity, and baptismal holiness.

3. *Cincture:

A cord tied around the waist.
It signifies purity, self-control, and readiness for ministry.

4. *Stole:

A long band of fabric worn around the neck.
It symbolizes priestly authority and the responsibility to preach and administer the sacraments.

5. *Chasuble:

The outermost garment worn over other vestments.
It represents the charity and love of Christ.

6. *Surplice:

A white loose-fitting linen garment with wide sleeves.
It represents simplicity and dignity in worship.

7. *Cassock:

A long ankle-length robe worn by clergy, servers, and choir members.
Its color may vary according to seasons or church tradition.

🛑. *Bishops’ Vestments:

Bishops wear special liturgical garments during worship services and important occasions:

*Alb: A long White robe symbolizing purity.

*Chasuble: Sleeveless outer garment worn over the alb.

*Dalmatic: A wide-sleeved vestment often worn by deacons.

*Stole: A long narrow vestment worn around the neck.

*Miter: The traditional head covering of a bishop.

*Crosier: A symbolic shepherd’s staff representing pastoral authority.

*Pectoral Cross: A cross worn on the chest.

*Episcopal Ring: A ring worn by bishops symbolizing spiritual authority and commitment.

🛑. *Conclusion:

Church vestments in Exodus 28 were not about fashion; they were about holiness, honor, and responsibility. God wanted His priests to stand out as consecrated servants.
Today, even if physical vestments differ, every believer is called to wear spiritual garments of righteousness, purity, and dedication to God.
Christian vestments carry rich spiritual symbolism.

They remind both clergy and congregation of the sacredness of worship and the responsibility of those who minister before God.

Understanding the meaning behind each garment deepens participation in the mysteries of faith.

🛑*Memory Verse:

Exodus 28:4
“And these are the garments which they shall make; a breastplate, and an ephod, and a robe, and a broidered coat, a mitre, and a girdle…”

✅ *TOPIC: SINGING A NEW SONG– WORSHIPPING GOD THROUGH ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT

*TEXT: Psalm 96
*AIM: To help young people understand that God must be worshipped in all circumstances, using their gifts in arts and Entertainment

✅ *INTRODUCTION:
"Who amongst us here loves music, movies, dancing acting or creating content?
Do you know that these things are powerful tools God gives us for worshipping Him?
In today's lesson, we are going to learn how our creativity and talents can become acts of worship to glorify God and a way to point others to God. "

A new song does not only mean a newly written melody. It means a fresh expression of praise, a lifestyle of worship that flows from a heart that knows God, even in changing situations.

✅*BIBLICAL BACKGROUND:

Psalm 96 is a psalm of praise that calls everyone on earth to worship God. It emphasizes:
A Call to Creative Worship (v.1–2); a declaration of God through expression (v.3). It also shows that
God is creater Than Worldly Idols (v.4–5) and should be worshiped with beauty and creativity (v.6). This behoves us to give God what belongs to Him (v.7–8) and to worship Him even in uncertain times(v.10–13)

✅*APPLICATION QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:

~ We also experience joy and purpose because we are doing what we were created to do.

~ We become examples to other young people

~ God can open doors we never expected (scholarships, platforms, opportunities).

~ Our confidence grows because we know our gifts have purpose.

~ We store eternal rewards, not just earthly applause.

*🅾️7a. How do you make sure that your gifts bring glory to God and not just attention to yourself?

( Likely answers)

~Encouraging others through arts ( Ps 96:2,3, 11,12; Mk 16:15, Col.1: 17).

~By sharing truth, hope and God's love creatively.

✅ *CONCLUSION:
God is not only interested in church services; He is interested in our talents, creativity, and influence.
And that includes worshiping Him through music, drama, dance, media, and other creative arts.
You must understand that:
Your gift is your instrument;
Your life is your song;
Let everything you create point back to God.
If you have God in your life (Jn 1:12), you will always prefer to worship Him instead of entertaining the crowd.

*✅MEMORY VERSE:
Psalm 96:1
"O sing unto the Lord a new song: sing unto the Lord, all the earth."

✅*PRAYER:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gifts and talents You have placed inside every young person. Help me to use my music, creativity, ideas, and platforms to worship You and not the world. Teach me to sing a new song in every season — in joy and in challenges. Let my life and talents bring glory to Your name and draw others closer to You in Jesus name. Amen. 🎶✨

*🧒🏽👧🏾TOPIC: FOCUSING ON EXCELLENCE: A CHRISTIAN'S MINDSET IN THE MEDIA AGE.

*📖TEXT: PHILLIPIANS 4:1-8

🎯*AIM: TO LET YOUNG PEOPLE KNOW THAT THEY MUST ALWAYS THINK ABOUT ANYTHING THAT IS EXCELLENT OR PRAISEWORTHY

*🌟INTRODUCTION:
How many of you have watched videos, used phone or tablets before? ( Pause for responses).
Are all the things you listen to fun, and helpful? Do some make you worried, distracted or even unhappy?
Today, we are going to learn how God wants us to think and focus in a world full of media and so many other challenges. This will make us live like Jesus no matter what we watch and hear or think.

*📚 BIBLE BACKGROUND:*
Philippians 4:1-8 comes from Paul's letter written from prison, encouraging the Philippian church, his "joy and crown," to stand firm in Christ by promoting unity (addressing conflict between Euodia and Syntyche), rejoicing always despite circumstances, practicing gentleness, casting anxieties onto God through prayer, and focusing their minds on what is true, honorable, and excellent—leading to the peace of God guarding their hearts.

*❓ APPLICATION QUESTIONS

1️⃣ *What is Excellence?
* Excellence means greatness — the very best. It is a quality that people really appreciate, because it's so hard to find. Excellence is the quality of excelling, of being truly the best at something.
* *B. What do you understand by "focusing on excellence?"*
* It means giving your best in all areas (works, studies, relationship)as an act of worship, using your God-given talents fully to reflect His character, serving others and growing to be more like Jesus, understanding its about faithful effort, not perfect performance, and relying on God's strength.
* It's also reflecting God's character by imitating His own excellent nature by pursuing high moral and ethical standards in your actions.
* It is overcoming limitations by relying on God's strength to achieve beyond personal capacity, Phill 4:13.
* It means choosing what is good and pleading God,Phill4:1.

2️⃣ *How can we focus on excellence in what we watch, listen to or think about?
* Choose things that are good,Kind, and pleasing to God. (Phil. 4:8; Ps 101:3).
* Before watching or listening, ask " Does this make God happy?
*B. How can we know if something is good for us?*
* If it helps us think like Jesus and brings peace ( Phil. 4:8; Pro. 4:23).
*C. What should we do when things we see or hear make us scared, angry, worried or sad?*
* Pray and tell God our worries ( Phil. 4:6; 1 Pet. 5:6; ).

3️⃣ *How can a Christian balance the desire for entertainment with the need for spiritual growth and development?
* Set Intentional Boundaries (Time & Content):
* Audit your time - keep records of your entertainment consumption (TV, social media, games) for a week to identify excessive habits.
* Prioritize daily devotion - set aside time for prayer and Bible study first, before engaging in leisure.
* Practice a media fast - take a break from social media or streaming services to reset your focus and strengthen your connection with God.
* Practice discernment in consumption.
* "Filter" your content - choose entertainment that aligns with your values and avoid content that is degrading and causing spiritual apathy.
* Curate your feed - actively unfollow accounts, pages, or influences that trigger compensation, insecurity, or negativity.
II. Integrate Spirituality into Daily Life:
* Make entertainment a shared activity - enjoy entertainment with family and friends to build community rather than isolating yourself.
* "Holy" use of technology - use apps for meditation, Bible study,or to connect with online spiritual communities.
* Turn content into prayer - use social media feeds as a "prayer list," taking a moment to pray for friends or world events you encounter.
III. Refrain the Purpose of Relaxation:
* Entertainment as refreshment - view it as a gift that, when use in moderation, refreshes the spirit and provides "good medicine"for the heart.
* Avoid idolatry - ensure entertainment does not become more important than your spiritual growth or responsibility. It should never enslave your time.

4️⃣ *How can Christians use Phillipians 4:1-8 to challenge themselves to be more intentional about seeking the Holy Spirit's guidance in their lives?
* Recognize that standing firm in your faith is impossible through human willpower alone. It requires relying on the power of the Holy Spirit to remain steadfast.
* "Rejoice in the Lord Always" (v. 4) : View joy not just as an emotion, but as a discipline facilitated by the Spirit (the fruit of the Spirit). It implies choosing joy based on God's presence, not on circumstances.
* "Let Your Gentleness Be Evident to All" (v.5): The phrase "The Lord is near" is both a comfort and a reminder to be humble and patient, rather than demanding your own way.
* "Pray About Everything" (v. 6-7): Move from a, "I'll handle this" mindset to a, "Lord, guide me" lifestyle. The Holy Spirit acts as a counselor who helps us know how to pray.
* "Think on These Things" (v. 8): Actively curate your thought life to align with the Spirit. The verse lists eight virtues—true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy—as a filter for your thoughts.

5️⃣ *What does Phillipians 4:1-8 teach us about the role of prayer in helping us focus on excellence and praiseworthy things?
* Focus:The passage, particularly verse 6, acts as a "filter" for the mind. Paul instructs believers to replace anxiety with prayer, which removes the "clutter" of fear and opens the mind to focus on what is good.
* Pairing Petitions with Gratitude: The, "with thanksgiving" element (v. 6) is key. It teaches that even when facing difficult situations, offering thanks for God’s character and blessings forces the mind to shift from complaining to appreciating "praiseworthy" things.
* Connecting Prayer to Mental Protection: When we bring our needs to God, the result is peace that "guards" our hearts and minds (v. 7). This protective peace creates a stable environment, allowing us to think, meditate, and ponder (v. 8) on things that are true, noble, and virtuous.
* The "Switch" from Worry to Worship: The passage implies a, "Whenever you worry, pray" approach. This, "handing over" of worries allows our minds to free up space to meditate on spiritual, honorable, and pure things, rather than on things that cause worry or fear.
* Actively Choosing Thoughts (Active, Not Passive): The verse on, "think on these things" (v. 8) implies an active, intentional, and, "meditative" effort. Prayer is the tool by which we request God's help in this, "guarding of the mind" so that our focus remains on his standard.

6️⃣ *Consequences when a Christian fails to focus on excellence.
* Dishonor to God: Shoddy work or a lack of effort does not reflect the character of the Creator, who is a God of excellence. It fails to show proper gratitude for the gifts and opportunities provided.
* Loss of Rewards (Eternal Consequences): Scripture warns that Christians will face the judgment seat of Christ to be repaid for what they have done in the body, whether good or evil,2 Cor.5:10 Work that is not done with care ("wood, hay, or straw") may be burned up, resulting in a loss of rewards, even if the person is saved.
* Hindered Witness and Testimony: A lack of excellence in the workplace or community can create a negative perception of God. Conversely, excellence serves as a testimony to the world of a transformed life.
* Ineffectiveness in Ministry and Life: A lack of focus, or living in mediocrity, leads to a "lukewarm" existence that prevents significant impact for the Kingdom. It results in missed opportunities to serve effectively.
Stalled Personal Growth: Violating the "law of process" by neglecting to grow in wisdom and skill leads to instability and prevents one from reaching their full potential, often resulting in excuses for non-performance.
* Increased Vulnerability to Temptation: When a Christian feels like a failure, they may become discouraged, which can lead to giving in to temptations and falling into deeper sin.

7️⃣ *Benefits of remaining focused on excellence in this media age:
* Glorifying God in every Sphere: Scripture calls Christians to do everything—from daily chores to professional tasks—for God's glory,1 Cor. 10:31; Col. 3:17.
* A Powerful Testimony to the World: Excellent work and behavior serve as a bridge of credibility for evangelism. When Christians work with integrity and skill, they "adorn the doctrine of God" and demonstrate that the Gospel transforms lives. It is a way of showing the gospel-transformed work within us to a watching world.
* Fulfilling the Mandate of Stewardship: God has gifted believers with talents, skills, and time. Pursuing excellence is the best way to thank God for these gifts, while laziness or mediocrity is considered a misuse of God's resources. It is a way of "not burying your talent".
* Cultivating Character and Maturity: The pursuit of excellence is a mark of spiritual maturity and growth. It fosters character traits like discipline, integrity, and diligence, moving a Christian from a "lukewarm" or "vanilla" life to a fruitful, purposeful one.
* Receiving Divine Favor and Promotion: Just as Daniel's "excellent spirit" led to him being promoted in a foreign land (Daniel 6:3), a commitment to excellence often attracts favor and opens doors, allowing Christians to have a greater influence and impact.
* Freedom from Perfectionism and Burnout: Unlike perfectionism, which is self-centered and driven by fear of failure, Biblical excellence is grace-based. It allows believers to work heartily, knowing their value is in Christ, not in their output, which leads to peace and joy rather than burnout.
* Rewards: Colossians 3:23–24 teaches that working heartily for the Lord brings an inheritance as a reward, emphasizing that labour done in His strength is not in vain.

*APPLICATION:
As Christians, we must focus on things that are excellent and praiseworthy, cultivating a mindset that honors God.

*✅ CONCLUSION:
In today's world, it's crucial to cultivate a mindset that focuses on excellence and praiseworthiness. As young people,we can learn from Paul's encouragement, recognizing the importance of focusing on excellent things, practicing gratitude, and experiencing the peace of God.

*📖 MEMORY VERSE:
Philippians 4:8 -Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."

*🙏 PRAYER:
Lord God, thank you for the advancement in our world. Yet, I confess I often become distracted by things and activities. Grant me the wisdom to discern when to pause, disconnect, and focus. Help me to use technology in ways that uplift, educate, and inspire rather than overwhelm. Let me be a steward of my time, keeping my eyes fixed on You, the source of all true excellence. In Jesus' name, Amen.
