OUR HISTORY
The local assembly known originally as Royal Evangel Church began in Port-Harcourt Nigeria about 25 years Ago (July 1990), a week after Pastor Charles arrived in Port Harcourt having left his previous appointment in Northern Nigeria. He arrived in Port Harcourt with about ₦250 (approximately $1.25 US, as at 2015) with no idea where he would sleep that night. He had not previously lived in Port Harcourt. From that day, the story has been one of God's miraculous direction, provision and increase. The Local Church comprises of:
• The Carpenter's Church [The Adult Church]
• The Carpenter's Teen Church [TC2]
• The Carpenter's Cubs [Children's Church]
NAME CHANGE
In 2001, Pastor Charles Omofomah, then the Presiding Pastor, changed the name of the church from Royal Evangel Church, to The Carpenter's Church. Since then we have been known by that name. Someone may wonder why the name: “The Carpenter's Church.”
The inspiration of the name comes from the verse Pastor Charles read from, the day he announced the change to the congregation: “Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?” (Mark 6:3). When Jesus was on this earth, He was called “The Carpenter” as He was engaged in carpentry work before His ministry. This is still His spiritual title today, since His present day ministry through the church is all about designing, making, mending and restoring men's lives, just like a carpenter would. He does this through His Word and power. We make bold to say that this local assembly — The Carpenter's Church, is named after Him. Our church like a carpenter's workshop is one place where He carries out His work of making and mending men's lives. THE PRESIDING PASTOR OF THE CARPENTER'S CHURCH
