UNDERSTANDING GOD'S WORD FOR THE NOW (Part One)
~ By Benny Peters Adaji ~
God's word must be understood based on timing and season and we must learn to flow with God's Word. Remember, God's word is God himself and not a text book.
What is God telling you today? How does His Word apply to your situation now?
It is important we ask these questions anytime we encounter the Word of God in personal study or in group study because there is something God wants to do with you now and it is your response to his word that will determine that.
All of God's words are right. All of God's words are useful.
2 Tim. 3:16 (NIV) All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
However, God does not want to achieve everything He has for you all at once. That will be against the principle of growth.
You must look for the word that fits and addresses that situation and key into it. You must also allow the Word to deal with you as God intends for you now.
There is a situation where God's word becomes a sword. In this case, the word SPECIFICALLY PIECE INTO OUR SITUATION especially our hearts. In this situation, God's word wants to go in and do a personal operational work in you. This can happen in a moment and you will know it yourself. This encounter requires the total opening of our hearts without holding back. It's a moment of self revelation and in most cases it won't be pleasant but the results will be amazing.
We saw this in Hebrew 4:12 (NIV)
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
There is a situation where God's word becomes fire that consumes. It just overwhelms and burns everything down. This is another momentary experience with lasting results. The unique thing with this experience is that such consuming fire moves you into intense prayers and worship. That is the efficacy of God's word. Hallelujah.
There are also situations, where God's word is like a hammer. In this case, God's word takes time in building us and it's through consistency, to drive his way into us and into our situations. This is not a momentary experience but an experience that comes as a result of a consistency. An habit you need to develop over time. One strike of the hammar on a nail does not drive the nail home. It takes several precise strikes. Keep studying God's word without stopping.
You can see this in Jeremiah 23:29 (NIV)
βIs not my word like fire,β declares the LORD, βand like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?
When God's word needs to be a sword in you then it is out of place to expect the consuming fire of the word. When it is supposed to be a consuming fire then the hammer expectations won't work. When it is supposed to be a hammer then piecing and consuming fire won't work.
There is a word for your current experience and the secret is yielding to the Holy Spirit none stop.
Keep winning on all sides.
