5. How to know those with a servant attitude.
1 Samuel 3:1-11.
In Jesus days, a servant is a person who has lost everything in the world; liberty, will and name. We are God's servants and have been bought with a price. Jesus did not just die to save us; He died to be Lord over us.
Meaning of Lord
A. Owner or master.
As an owner, you belong to Him. He possesses you as a master. He directs or guides you.
B. One that has absolute control and authority.
C. Governor.
He regulates your life. Your captain and ruler.
Servant means
A. A slave.
B. Being in subjection without bo***ge.
C. Anyone under the authority of another person.
We are both sons of God and servants to God at the same time. He is our master and we are His servants. We must listen to our master.
Signs of a servant.
A. Will not manifest an independent Spirit/attitude.
Malachi 1:6.
He honours, listens, and obeys his master. He is not independent so he cannot manifest an independent spirit.
B. Servants will not have hardness of heart, stubbornness, self-will, or rebellion.
C. A true servant will not be committed to the tradition of men.
Mark 7:13.
God's word is the final authority.
D. He will not manifest unbelief.
Genesis 12:4-5.
E. He will not manifest pretence or hypocrisy.
F. He will not exhibit any form of unwillingness to what the master has instructed.
G. He does not campaign for recognition.
H. He is disciplined and exercises self-control.
1 Corinthians 9:25.
I. He doesn't frown at menial jobs like cleaning and sweeping.
J. He is at the beck and call of his master.
K. He promotes his master while he stays below.
John 3:30.
L. He serves freely and willingly without expecting reward from anybody.
Luke 17:10.
M. He does not see himself as equal to his master even when his master was his former classmate or colleague. It is not an issue of age. You accord him his honour. Serve and connect well with whosoever God has chosen.
N. He can never be inconvenienced by any work or task.
O. He does what his master wants in the way his master wants it.
1 Samuel 15:22.
P. He ministers to the master of his substance.
Luke 8:2.
Q. He is excited at the promotion of his master.
R. He does not hide secrets from his master.
S. His satisfaction is in carrying out the wishes of his master.
Titus 2:9.
T. He covers the faults and weaknesses of his master.
John 13:1.
U. He is willing to sacrifice his all to God.
V. He is faithful and teachable
W. He is willing to serve longer than expected.
X. He loves and accepts corrections.
Y. He is not proud.
Matthew 20:26
Strive to be a servant of God, a man of God indeed.
