A Message to the Church from Princewill Heavenshill, Apologetics Scholar and Defender of the Faith
Dear beloved brethren in Christ,
I wanted to share with you a recent debate I engaged in on the topic of Chukwu, the Supreme Being in Igbo cosmology, and the uniqueness and supremacy of the God of the Bible. As a defender of the faith, I felt compelled to respond to thought-provoking presentations and assert the distinctiveness of the biblical God.
In my response, I highlighted the uniqueness of the God of the Bible, His sovereignty and universality, His personal nature, and His salvific plan through Jesus Christ. I contrasted these attributes with Chukwu, demonstrating the significant differences between the two deities.
Through this debate, I aimed to engage in a respectful and scholarly discussion, utilizing reasoned arguments and scriptural references to challenge interpretations and assert the supremacy of the biblical God. As we navigate the complexities of faith and culture, it is essential for us to maintain our stand in the God of the Bible as the only supreme God of the universe.
This conviction is rooted in a profound understanding of the divine-human relationship and a deep appreciation for the complexities of faith and culture. I encourage you, dear brethren, to remain steadfast in your commitment to the biblical God, while acknowledging the diversity of human experience and the richness of cultural expression.
*The Uniqueness and Supremacy of Jesus Christ as the One True God*
- *Jesus Christ is the one and only true God*: He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end (Revelation 22:13, John 1:1).
- *There are no other gods besides Jesus Christ*: The so-called gods that people worship are mere idols, created by human hands and imagination (Psalm 96:5, 1 Corinthians 8:4-6).
- *The biblical God is a singular entity, and Jesus Christ is that entity*: He is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, yet He is one God, not three separate gods (Deuteronomy 6:4, Matthew 28:19).
*The Falsehood of Other Gods*
- *There are no gods anywhere else on earth*: The only gods that exist are us, the offspring of the one and only living God (Psalm 82:6, John 10:34-36).
- *We exist to give Him all the glory and praise*: Our purpose is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever (1 Corinthians 10:31, Psalm 100:2).
*Scriptural References that Support the Deity of Jesus Christ*
- *John 1:1* - "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
- *John 10:30* - "I and the Father are one."
- *Colossians 2:9* - "For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily."
- *Hebrews 1:3* - "He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact representation of His nature."
*The Testimony of Church Fathers and Theologians*
- C.S. Lewis, in his book "Mere Christianity," argues for the deity of Christ and the uniqueness of Christianity.
- *Athanasius of Alexandria*, in his work "On the Incarnation," defends the deity of Christ and the doctrine of the Trinity.
- *Justin Martyr*, in his "First Apology," argues for the uniqueness of Christianity and the deity of Christ.
Let us not shy away from debates and discussions that challenge our faith, but rather, let us engage with them in a spirit of respect, empathy, and understanding. In fact, I want to encourage you to embrace exposure to different perspectives and ideas, even if they challenge our faith. For it is through these encounters that we can gain a deeper appreciation for the complexities of faith and culture, and strengthen our conviction in the God of the Bible.
If we shy away from these kinds of realities, we set our faith and generations for destruction and waste. But if we engage with them boldly and confidently, we can preserve the generations yet unborn from lies and establish a bedrock of victory for the faith.
Let us not run away from the challenges that come with sharing our faith, but rather, let us face them head-on with courage and conviction. For it is in these moments of exposure that we can demonstrate the power and truth of the God of the Bible, and inspire others to join us in our commitment to Him.
May God bless you and strengthen your faith as we navigate the complexities of this world together.
