DAY 23: MOST VALUABLE INHERITANCE (FAITH LEGACY)

Heb 11:9 KJV
BY FAITH HE SOJOURNED IN THE LAND of PROMISE, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with ISAAC and JACOB, THE HEIRS WITH HIM of THE SAME PROMISE:

It’s staggering the 3 PATRIARCH’S OF FAITH are mentioned in one breath here: THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, ISAAC and JACOB.

Noticed Esau was left out here. Even though he inherited all the “EXCESS, EXTREME, SURPLUS WEALTH” his father Isaac had (Gen 26:13), even he realised later that HE MISSED OUT ON GOD’S VERY BEST – THE BLESSING.

If you are a good student of the bible, you will find the twins (Isaac and Jacob) had the privilege of learning from directly from their grandpa, Abraham for 16 years (before he passed).

But while JACOB was staying close to LEARN ABOUT THE POWER OF THE BLESSING, Esau was out chasing “WHAT I CAN EAT NOW”. How different their lives turned?

So, “Of all thy LEAVING FOR THINE CHILDREN, leave them a LEGACY OF FAITH”.

We must be VERY DELIBERATE about TEACHING OUR CHILDREN FAITH. Let them know GOD, JESUS CHRIST early.

“A GOOD MAN LEAVES AN INHERITANCE [of MORAL STABILITY and GOODNESS] to HIS CHILDREN’S CHILDREN...”

The most assured and LASTING INHERITANCE ALL the patriarchs left their children was the LEGACY OF FAITH IN THE PROMISES. Abraham LEFT Isaac GREAT WEALTH, but famine, recession wiped it all OUT. What kept him was the LEGACY of FAITH. This was repeated with Isaac and Jacob, Jacob and Joseph – CYCLES of famines/recessions with THE BLESSING/the PROMISE/THE WORD PUTTING THEM OVER!

The curious thing about our text is Esau was nowhere to be found. While his FATHER and BROTHER WERE LEARNING about the PROMISE (THE WORD OF GOD), THE BLESSING and FAITH from the very FATHER OF FAITH, Papa Abraham, he was busy chasing antelopes in the Bush.

Again, like Jacob, Esau equally had the SAME OPPORTUNITY of LEARNING DIRECTLY FROM grandpa 🧓 ABRAHAM, but DIDN’T TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE of it.

Could it be the reason Esau became a PROFANE/VAIN PERSON (a fornicator) and HAD VERY LITTLE REGARD FOR SPIRITUAL THINGS?

DON’T GO TO CHURCH ⛪ AND LEAVE YOUR CHILDREN 🧒 AT HOME; WHETHER IT’S SUNDAY or MIDWEEK SERVICE. I will rather have all the children come and disturb the service, than leave them at home.

Let’s see what God says about INDOCTRINATION of OUR CHILDREN IN THE THINGS of GOD...

Deu 6:7 KJV
And THOU shalt TEACH them DILIGENTLY unto THY CHILDREN, and shalt TALK OF THEM WHEN THOU SITTEST in THINE HOUSE, and WHEN THOU WALKEST by the WAY, and WHEN THOU LIEST DOWN, and WHEN THOU RISEST UP.

“You shall TEACH them DILIGENTLY to your CHILDREN [IMPRESSING GOD’S PRECEPTS ON THEIR MINDS AND PENETRATING THEIR HEARTS WITH HIS TRUTHS...”

DILIGENTLY means is the Hebrew word שׁנן (shânan) is to “WHET, TO SHARPEN, TEACH (incisively)” in the things of GOD. So that by the time they are grown, THEY WILL BE ROOTED, GROUNDED AND BE FULL OF CONVICTION, and nothing or no one can deter or derail them from the TRUTH.

If we want our children to be SOLD OUT TO GOD like Timothy, WE MUST ENDEAVOUR to expose them TO THE WORD like his mom and grandma 🧓:

2Ti 1:5 KJV
When I call to remembrance THE UNFEIGNED FAITH THAT IS IN THEE, WHICH DWELT FIRST IN THY GRANDMOTHER LOIS, AND THY MOTHER EUNICE; AND I AM PERSUADED THAT IN THEE ALSO.

DAY 20: BABY 👶 STEPS!

Heb 11:8 KJV “…HE WENT OUT, NOT KNOWING WHITHER HE WENT.”

The difference between receiving a call 📞 and retorting “who is this?” 😏 and responding “I’m coming right away” is trust built on a prior RELATIONSHIP. Ever wondered why Paul will chose to give Timothy enormous assignments like overseeing a problematic church ⛪ like the Corinthian Church ⛪? Perhaps it has something to do with this:

2Ti 3:15 KJV “And that FROM a CHILD THOU HAST KNOWN (grk: to be skilled in, perceive, discern, understand, be sure of) THE HOLY SCRIPTURES, which ARE ABLE TO MAKE THEE WISE…”

Similarly, Abraham had a relationship with God prior to Genesis 12. Because Abram was in Haran in Genesis 12, meanwhile…
Act 7:2 KJV “And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; THE GOD of GLORY APPEARED UNTO OUR FATHER ABRAHAM, when he was in Mesopotamia, BEFORE HE DWELT in CHARRAN…”

Genesis 11:31 attest that Haran, wasn’t their first settlement. And Acts 7:2 says God had appeared to Abraham before.

Act 7:2 AMP “And he answered, “Brothers and fathers, listen to me! THE GOD OF GLORY [THE SHEKINAH, THE RADIANCE OF GOD] APPEARED TO OUR FATHER ABRAHAM WHEN HE WAS IN MESOPOTAMIA, BEFORE HE LIVED IN HARAN…”

I don’t know about you but not everyone gets to physically see and experience the Shekinah presence of The Almighty God.

What does this teach us. God didn’t start Abraham off with the big stuff. He starts with the little stuff and as you faithfully walk 🚶 in Faith following and obeying God, your Faith grows.

Jesus told his disciples to increase their FAITH, they’d to use the little the had. And then it grows into the big things of God.

When it comes to FAITH, take baby 👶 steps. Thank God for the mountain ⛰ Moving Faith. However, it’s best to start from where you are in your FAITH development and don’t look ➿ at someone’s else’s level. Start where you and don’t be ashamed about it. Your FAITH WORKING ⚒ and GROWING IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN HOW MUCH YOU CAN IMPRESS SOMEONE WITH THE SIZE OF YOUR FAITH!

DAY 19: UNKNOWN DESTINATION(+ A Tribute to Late Dr [Rev] Mike Ochoga, MD)

Heb 11:8 KJV “… OBEYED; and HE WENT OUT, NOT KNOWING WHITHER HE WENT.”

Faith trusts. In fact, another word for FAITH IS TRUST! Trusting on who is leading you.

You may not know where He is taking you, but you trust who is leading you.

A lot of times we wish to know what will happen, how it will happen and when it will happen. Faith does not wait to see the whole picture. Learn to act on the little light you have and are sure of. It’s precept upon precept.

I Learned a great lesson of FAITH from my great mentor, Rev Mike Ochoga, MD., of blessed memory about 19 years ago. I was his official P.A. in the hospital 🏥 and Crusades Manager in the ministry ⚒. _One evening, after work at his out-patient clinic there wasn’t much cash available. I knew his car had no fuel ⛽ to take him home 🏡 and he knew I needed money 💷 (at least to get home 🏡), so he asked me to take all the money 💷 we had left. Concerned 🤔I asked, “but daddy, how will you get home 🏡 with no fuel ⛽ in your car?” 🤔 He was as relaxed as he can be when he replied me, “Son, when God called me into the ministry ⚒ there are questions I stopped asking; HOW, WHEN and WHERE?” I was even more shocked 😲 before he’d finished speaking 🔊, someone we weren’t expecting showed up 👆 with money 💷!”

He was confident God was going to get him home, regardless. Of cause he didn’t get to that level of trust in a day. But EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US HAS THE SAME STARTER PACK 📦 OF FAITH (Mark 11:22, Rom 12:3). We can start by trusting God in the little things and grow into the big things.

The widow most likely did not start by giving Elijah has last sustenance, God must have known her prior enough to know she will do it. Peter didn’t start by walking on water 💦. He started by what was none-life-threatening – casting net on the right 👉 side.

Abraham certainly didn’t start relating with God from Genesis 12, God placing such a huge demand on him came from a prior dealing.

DAY 18: THE FATHER OF FAITH

Heb 11:8 KJV BY FAITH ABRAHAM, WHEN HE WAS CALLED TO GO OUT INTO A PLACE which he should after receive for an inheritance, OBEYED; and HE WENT OUT, NOT KNOWING WHITHER HE WENT.

Abraham occupies the chiefest seat 💺 of the Hall Faith. The NT called him “the father of Faith. The father’s of us all. The father of all that believe.” As you can imagine we will camp ⛺ here a bit.

Before we delve into his background and life in the coming days, I want us to consider some key 🔑 attributes of his Faith highlighted in our texts today – OBEYED, WENT OUT, NOT KNOWING!

Indeed Faith begins where the will/word/voice of God is revealed/known. Faith listens. If you will walk 🚶 by Faith, then hearing the voice of God will be an integral part of your life! Abraham heard the call 📞 of God. But hearing without Obedience/doing is useless.

1. OBEYED – FAITH OBEYS! No matter how much Faith you have, and genuinely so, perhaps, IF it is NOT ACTED UPON, IT IS USELESS!

One of the GREATEST attributes we can learn from papa Abraham is A LIFE OF TOTAL and PROMPT OBEDIENCE TO GOD!

Gen 12:1 KJV “Now THE LORD HAD SAID UNTO ABRAM, GET THEE OUT of THY COUNTRY, and FROM THY KINDRED, and FROM THY FATHER’S HOUSE, unto a land that I will shew thee:”

Gen 12:4 “SO ABRAM DEPARTED, AS THE LORD HAD SPOKEN UNTO HIM…”

Abraham didn’t look for committees to confirm what he knew God had told him. He didn’t put out a fleece. A lot of times our demanding 100 confirmations is out of unbelief and unwillingness to yield/obey!

Look at that 4th verse again…

The Voice “WITHOUT ANY HESITATION, ABRAM WENT. HE DID EXACTLY as the Eternal One asked him to do…”

Let’s consider what James has to say about this…

Jas 2:17 AMP So too, FAITH, if it DOES NOT HAVE WORKS [to back it up], IS BY ITSELF DEAD [INOPERATIVE and INEFFECTIVE].

DAY 17: LUDICROUS+IMPROBABLE+NOT HAPPENING

Heb 11:7 KJV By faith NOAH, being WARNED OF GOD of THINGS NOT SEEN AS YET, MOVED WITH FEAR, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

Noah’s FAITH is what I’d term breaking “NEW THRESHOLD OF FAITH”. Imagine God tell you to build a boat ⛴ to save you, mankind, animals from “NEVER BEFORE SEEN PHENOMENON COMING, CALLED RAIN ☔”. I’m sure Noah was like “what?” 😲 😲?

Now it’s one thing to believe something ridiculous in private, it’s an entirely different thing for God to request YOU GO PREACH YOUR RIDICULOUS REVELATION TO EVERYONE! Because the Bible says he was a preacher of RIGHTEOUSNESS (FAITH). To successfully walk by FAITH, YOU MUST HAVE A HEALTHY AMOUNT OF CRAZY IN YOU! 😡 😜

We see the same principle of FAITH we learned earlier in the series, FAITH BELIEVES TO SEE. FAITH DOES NOT REQUIRE FURTHER, PHYSICAL EVIDENCE. The Amplified Classic says he was warned “… concerning EVENTS of WHICH as YET THERE WAS NO VISIBLE SIGN…” Unbelief says show me a sign, FAITH SAYS “BE IT UNTO ME AS YOU HAVE SPOKEN!”

Noah’s response proved he believed, because he “… TOOK HEED and DILIGENTLY and REVERENTLY CONSTRUCTED and PREPARED AN ARK for the deliverance of his own family…” IF YOU BELIEVE, YOU WILL ACT. ACT LIKE YOU’VE ALREADY GOT IT, CAUSE YOU DO! Eph1:3, 2Pet 1:3, 1Jn 5:14-14.

One striking thing about Noah was HE STOOD UPON HIS FAITH CONFESSION FOR 200 YEARS! 🙆 😲. Not even a small dew to encourage him, yet he kept preaching what he believed. Never mind 200 years, in our days, if you stand upon a FAITH Confession for 20 years without visible change or manifestation, we conclude that you are a failure and your FAITH futile.

But we must bring ourselves to the place where we are FULLY PERSUADED OF WHAT GOD HAS SAID REGARDLESS OF THE PHYSICAL EVIDENCES (or their lack)

DAY 16: GOD CHASERS!

Heb 11:6 KJV “… FOR HE THAT COMETH TO GOD MUST BELIEVE that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

Every time come to God, every time we draw near and approach God, IT MUST BE IN FAITH. Not in the flesh, out of a religious obligation or for outward show. It MUST BE INTENTIONAL, IN FAITH. Else, we’re just WASTING OUR TIME ⌚.

FAITH is a PREREQUISITE of having ANY KIND OF A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD. The Greek word δεῖ (dei) translated “must” in our texts refers to something that is “necessary”, like someone who requires a valid International passport to travel, IT IS NECESSARY. FAITH IS NECESSARY, not an option, IF WE MUST BECOME ALL GOD WANTS US TO BE AND HAVE ALL HE PLANNED FOR US TO HAVE.

Approaching God Intel two basic things. Believe that

1. He is, believe God exists and His word is true. Believe not only in His existence, but in His person – Jesus Christ, as both LORD, SAVIOUR and MASTER.
a. All that God is and represents, knowing him for yourself and fully convinced

2. He rewards, in fact the Greek word μισθαποδότης (misthapodotēs) translated “rewarder” literally means “One who pays wages”. God pays or rewards FAITH! And we about to dived fully into the HALL of FAITH, where we see many who’s FAITH God rewarded.
But it must not be half-hearted, The Expanded Bible puts it powerfully “… THOSE WHO ·TRULY WANT TO FIND [EARNESTLY/SINCERELY SEEK] HIM.”

Heb 10:22 AMPc LET US ALL COME FORWARD AND DRAW NEAR WITH TRUE (HONEST AND SINCERE) HEARTS IN UNQUALIFIED ASSURANCE AND ABSOLUTE CONVICTION ENGENDERED BY FAITH (BY [2] THAT LEANING OF THE ENTIRE HUMAN PERSONALITY ON GOD IN ABSOLUTE TRUST AND CONFIDENCE IN HIS POWER, WISDOM, AND GOODNESS), HAVING OUR HEARTS SPRINKLED AND PURIFIED FROM A GUILTY (EVIL) CONSCIENCE and our bodies cleansed with pure water.

DAY 15: THE REALM OF IMPOSSIBILITY

Heb 11:6 KJV But WITHOUT FAITH IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE HIM: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

In statistics, we have empty sets or null hypothesis, which is a probability that CANNOT HAPPEN. E.g. The probability of the number of men 🚹 that went on maternity leave in 2017 will be zero. Why? IT CAN NEVER HAPPEN (bar any aberration).

The Greek word ἀδύνατος (adunatos) translated “impossible”in our texts means “WITHOUT STRENGTH, IMPOTENT, POWERLESS, weakly, DISABLED, UNABLE TO BE DONE”.

The lack of faith, being the absence of it – UNBELIEF. The realm of unbelief is THE REALM OF IT CANNOT HAPPEN! It’s the realm of doubt. NOTHING HINDERS THE POWER, and THE MOVE OF GOD LIKE UNBELIEF. Unbelief Hindered even Jesus Christ in his own town, upon whom the Holy Spirit was WITHOUT MEASURE – FULL OF THE POWER OF GOD. If unbelief can hinder Jesus’ anointing it can hinder anyone’s.

Once you switch to the realm of doubting and unbelief, you enter the realm of IMPOSSIBILITY – CANNOT HAPPEN. And there are many examples all over the Bible…

2Ki 7:2 BBE “Then the captain whose arm was supporting the king said to the man of God, Even if the Lord made windows in heaven, WOULD SUCH A THING BE POSSIBLE? ... “

Judas made a conscious decision NOT TO BELIEVE!

Joh 20:25 KJV “… EXCEPT I shall SEE… and PUT MY FINGER… and THRUST MY HAND into his side, I WILL NOT BELIEVE”.

He said, “I WILL NOT BELIEVE!” That was his will. It was his will not to believe.

Sarah laughed in unbelief. Abraham laughed at God, rolling on the floor in unbelief. Elijah spoke unbelief and which point, God chose 3 replacements for him.

The children of Israel doubted God…

Psa 78:19-21 KJV “Yea, THEY SPAKE AGAINST GOD; they said, CAN GOD FURNISH a TABLE IN THE WILDERNESS? … CAN HE GIVE BREAD also? CAN HE PROVIDE FLESH for his people? Therefore THE LORD HEARD this, and WAS WROTH…“

21 MSG “WHEN GOD HEARD that, HE WAS FURIOUS—HIS ANGER FLARED… HE LOST HIS TEMPER…”

NOTHING makes God FURIOUS LIKE UNBELIEF. Why? Look ➿ at verse 41

41 KJV Yea, THEY turned back and tempted God, and LIMITED THE HOLY ONE of ISRAEL.

The Passion Translation says “Again and again THEY LIMITED GOD, PREVENTING HIM FROM BLESSING THEM”

The Chumash explain it gloriously that they “set bounds to the Holy One of Israel".

Wow! They didn’t set bounds on who God is and what He can do, they set bounds, through unbelief on what He can do for them!

Let’s all heed the rebuke of Jesus to Thomas…

Joh 20:27 KJV “… BE NOT FAITHLESS , BUT BELIEVING.”

Joh 20:27 AMP “… DO NOT BE UNBELIEVING, BUT [stop doubting and] BELIEVE.”

Joh 20:27 AMPc “… DO NOT be FAITHLESS and INCREDULOUS, but [STOP YOUR UNBELIEF and] BELIEVE!

The cure for unbelief, is FAITH (BELIEVE)! Do whatever you can to get FAITH! BE BELIEVING!

DAY 14: FAITH FUEL ⛽

Hebrew 11:5
PhillipsNT It was because of his faith that Enoch was promoted to the eternal world without experiencing death. HE DISAPPEARED FROM THIS WORLD BECAUSE GOD PROMOTED HIM, and BEFORE THAT HAPPENED HIS REPUTATION WAS that “HE PLEASED GOD”.

TPT “… For before he was translated to the heavenly realm HIS LIFE HAD BECOME a PLEASURE TO GOD.”

EasyEnglish “… ENOCH… MADE GOD HAPPY…”

FAITH pleases God and without FAITH it is IMPOSSIBLE 🙅 TO PLEASE GOD (any other way or without it). Which we will study in due course.

But the of goal is not FAITH as the end 🔚. FAITH is MUCH BIGGER, MORE IMPORTANT THAN RECEIVING YOUR PRAYERS ANSWERED. It’s much more bigger than that! 1 Pet 1:11. BUT THE INTIMACY WE SHARE and ENJOY WITH GOD through FAITH PROCESS.

In fact in Romans 15 the word of God draws our attention to the JOY 😂 OF THE FAITH PROCESS. We are not supposed to be or feel miserable while we wait for the answer to our Faith! No! We HAVE JOY IN (our) BELIEVING!

Rom 15:13 AMP May the GOD of HOPE FILL YOU WITH ALL JOY and PEACE IN BELIEVING [through THE EXPERIENCE of YOUR FAITH] that BY THE POWER of the HOLY SPIRIT YOU WILL ABOUND IN HOPE and OVERFLOW WITH CONFIDENCE in His promises.

So, FAITH gives us a CHANCE/OPPORTUNITY TO FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD, SPEND TIME ⌚ WITH OUR FATHER – THERE IS NOTHING THAT PLEASES GOD MORE. So whenever we go to him in prayer, He’s looking ➿ forward to spend time ⌚ us. Learn to go to Him in prayer for fellowship more (rather than just needs), THAT’S FELLOWSHIP! And that’s the key 🔑 thing we know about Enoch that GAVE GOD SO MUCH PLEASURE!

Gen 5:24 KJV “And Enoch WALKED WITH GOD…”

AMPc And Enoch WALKED [IN HABITUAL FELLOWSHIP] WITH GOD; and he was not, for GOD TOOK HIM [HOME WITH HIM].

Faith indeed comes by hearing the word. But that’s not the only way Faith comes. In fact, CONSTANT FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD NOT ONLY BUILDS 🏢 UP FAITH, BUT IT FUELS ⛽ IT. That’s why you see throughout the Bible, anyone who’d spent time ⌚ with God (in God’s presence) comes out differently with mighty attesting signs and Miracles.

That’s it on Enoch.

DAY 13: THE INVISIBLES!

Heb 11:5 KJV BY FAITH ENOCH WAS TRANSLATED THAT HE SHOULD NOT SEE DEATH; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

“Gayun Allah, wanda ba su mutuwa sai tiransfa!” Growing up, Kaduna State (Northern Nigeria) this was a familiar slogan/hype among my peers, meaning (literally) “lads of God that can’t die. They only go on transfer!”

AMPc “BECAUSE OF FAITH ENOCH was caught up and TRANSFERRED TOHEAVEN, so that HE DID NOT have a GLIMPSE of DEATH…”

Indeed, in the NT, believers don’t die. That’s why the NC consciously uses the term “sleep/asleep” instead “die/death”. Glory to God, death ☠ is swallowed up in VICTORY!

AUV “BY [having] FAITH, Enoch was taken [to be with God], so that HE DID NOT hHAVE TO DIE… “

DEATH ☠ IS a CHOICE in the NT testament, why?Because

1. Jesus destroyed him that had the power of death ☠
2. Delivered us from the fear/dread 😱 of death ☠ and
3. Then put death ☠ under our authority

MSG “By AN ACT of FAITH, ENOCH SKIPPED DEATH COMPLETELY…”

It doesn’t matter if people are dying like flies, if you understand and stand firm on the authority of the word of God, that DEATH ☠ IS A CHOICE, UNDER YOUR AUTHORITY, like the Israelites in Goshen, because of the blood 🆎 of Jesus SPEAKING LIFE FOR US (on our spiritual lintel), you are EXEMPTED!

How is this possible? 😲 According to our text, BY FAITH! It happened in the wilderness when the deadly snakes 🐍 were biting EVERYONE in the camp ⛺ of the Israelites, THOSE WHO FOLLOWED/BELIEVED (obeyed) THE WORD (instruction) of God concerning the situation WERE EXEMPTED FROM DEATH ☠!

FAITH CAPSULES

DAY 12: A LIFESTYLE

Heb 11:4 AMP “… through which it was testified of him that he was righteous (upright, in right standing with God), and GOD TESTIFIED by ACCEPTING HIS GIFTS. And though he died, yet THROUGH [this ACT of] FAITH HE STILL SPEAKS.”

TLB “…and though Abel is long dead, WE CAN STILL LEARN LESSONS FROM HIM ABOUT TRUSTING GOD.”

Like we learnt earlier in this series, GOD WANTS US TO LIVE BY FAITH AS A LIFESTYLE. Faith is a life. Not a get out of jail card 💳 we turned to when we get into trouble. As believers in Christ, everything we do should be prompted by Faith (like Noah).

As we conclude our study on Abel as a hero of FAITH, it is curious to see God testifying of his gifts/offerings.

• Gifts, not gift 📦. It was a lifestyle to Abel. We have to make up our minds to obey God and live the way he wants us to, not the way we or the world 🌍 wants. LIVING FOR OURSELVES IS NOT PART OF THE SALVATION DEAL.

• This, his gifts 📦, brings a reflection/echoes of the incident with the widows 2 mites. For God to highlight his giving/offering it I) Must have touch his heart ♥ and II) God wants us to see it as an example of true worship from the heart ♥.

In Romans 12 the Bible admonish us to offer ourselves (bodies) to God as a living (lifelong) sacrifice, as AN ACT OF WORSHIP. The word translated “present” 📦 in (KJV) appeared 44 times throughout the NT. So, offering is an integral/very important part of our worship.

There is something outstanding to be learned from the Corinthians Church ⛪ about GIVING as AN ACT of WORSHIP and DEVOTION TO GOD.

2 Corinthians 8:5
AUV And they did not [just] do as we had hoped, but they GAVE THEMSELVES FIRST TO THE LORD and [then] TO US through THE WILL OF GOD.

Look at that! They first GAVE THEMSELVES TO THE LORD, THEN TO THE APOSTLES/PREACHERS and THEN GAVE THEIR OFFERINGS (gifts 📦, money 💷, substance). What an order of worship and Devotion! It’s not rocket 🚀 science but scripture, WHERE YOUR HEART ♥ IS, YOU WILL INVEST YOUR TREASURE IN!

Look at that verse again…

MSG This was totally spontaneous, entirely their own idea, and caught us completely off guard. What explains it was that THEY HAD FIRST GIVEN THEMSELVES UNRESERVEDLY TO GOD and TO US. THE OTHER GIVING SIMPLY FLOWED OUT of THE PURPOSES of GOD WORKING IN THEIR LIVES.

I pray 🙏 like Abel, and the Corinthian church ⛪, that we will allow God work ⚒ His purposes in our lives, whenever He wants and whatever they may be!

And so we conclude our study on Abel as a hero of FAITH.

DAY 11: MORE EXCELLENT SACRIFICE

Heb 11:4 KJV BY FAITH ABEL OFFERED unto GOD A MORE EXCELLENT SACRIFICE than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

Firstly Abel was not looking to outdo Cain his brother. It was the depth of his gratitude. Jesus in teaching about sacrificial, outrageous giving/gifts, he simply asserted that, HE WHO IS FORGIVEN MUCH, WILL LOVE (give) MUCH! Luke 7, John 3:16.

Secondly, True GIVING COMES FROM the INSIDE, THE HEART ♥! The “Catholic Public Domain Version” puts it beautifully in 2 Corinthians 9

2Co 9:7 CPDV “EACH ONE GIVING, just AS HE HAS DETERMINED IN HIS HEART…”

So, before you decide what to give, what is God putting in your heart ♥ to give?

Thirdly, the attitude of giving is so important, the Bible lays a lot of emphasis on it.

2Co 9:7 AMPc Let EACH ONE [GIVE] as HE HAS MADE UP HIS OWN MIND and purposed in his heart, not RELUCTANTLY or SORROWFULLY or UNDER COMPULSION, FOR GOD LOVES (He [2] TAKES PLEASURE IN, PRIZES ABOVE OTHER THINGS, and IS UNWILLING TO ABANDON or TO do WITHOUT) a CHEERFUL (JOYOUS, “PROMPT TO DO IT”) GIVER [WHOSE HEART IS IN HIS GIVING].(

The word for “cheerful” in the original text means “hilarious”

2Co 9:7 ERRB (Every man according) EACH EXACTLY AS HE (purposeth) PREFERETH IN HIS HEART, SO LET HIM GIVE; NOT (grudgingly) OF SORROW, or OF (necessity) COMPULSION: FOR (God) ELOHIM LOVETH A (cheerful) HILARIOUS GIVER.

There must have been something hilarious about Abel’s sacrifice that pleased God well! There’s something a little crazy 😜 about being hilarious 😂. And we can safely say that ABEL WAS A CRAZY 😜 (hilarious 😂) GIVER. Which bring us to the fourth thing…

Fourthly, the Greek word πλείων πλεῖον πλέον (pleiōn pleion pleon) translated “more excellent” means “GREATER in QUANTITY, GREATER/SUPERIOR in QUALITY”. So, Abel’s sacrifice was SUPERABUNDANT in QUANTITY and SUPERIOR in QUALITY! And this is not measured in reference to what someone else has given, but in how much you have, like Jesus illustrated with the widow’s mite.

My elder brother, Rev Akila Yusuf use to say, “Giving is measured by what you have left after you have given!”

What/how have you given to the gospel? Luke 7:37, Mark 14:3, Luke 7:47. How much do you love 😍 Jesus? How much do you want the gospel to go forward?
