Topic: Desiring an Intimate Relationship with God

Texts: Philippians 3:10; Matthew 24:11–12

Desire: A strong feeling of wanting, longing for, or craving something or someone.

Intimacy: A deep sense of closeness and personal connection with someone in a relationship.

How Do I Develop an Intimate Relationship with God?

1. You must be born again — John 3:3
Intimacy with God begins with salvation. We must have a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ.

2. Maintain regular fellowship with God — Mark 1:35
Jesus made time to fellowship with the Father. We must also create time to seek God daily.

3. Develop intimacy through prayer
Prayer is our communication with God. We should talk to God sincerely and also learn to listen to Him.

4. Develop intimacy through the study of God’s Word — 2 Timothy 2:15
God reveals Himself and His will through His Word. The more we study the Bible, the more we know Him.

5. Develop intimacy through obedience — John 14:15
Jesus said, “If you love me, obey my commandments.” Obedience is evidence of our love for God.

Practical Ways of Desiring an Intimate Relationship with God

1. Be consistent with your daily quiet time.
2. Be deliberate in studying your Bible.
3. Talk to God sincerely and listen to Him.
4. Be obedient to His instructions.
5. Guard your heart, be quick to repent, and do not forsake the fellowship of believers.
6. Be available to serve God and always be grateful to Him.

Conclusion
An intimate relationship with God does not happen by accident. It requires a genuine desire and a deliberate commitment to prayer, God’s Word, obedience, fellowship, and service.

In a world where the love of many is growing cold, we must intentionally draw closer to God. Like Paul, our desire should be “that I may know Him” (Philippians 3:10).

Prayer
Father, help me to desire You above everything else. Give me the grace to seek You daily through prayer and Your Word. Help me to obey Your instructions, guard my heart, remain faithful in fellowship, and serve You with a grateful heart. May my love for You never grow cold. Draw me closer to You and help me to know You more each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
