*Topic:* Entering into Newness Through the Fruit and the Gift of the Holy Spirit
*Text:* Acts 1:8; Acts 2:1-4;
*Introduction*
The Church of the Lord is a holy place. It is a place of power, fire, and the manifestation of newness. This newness is not only evident in the church, but also influences the world through the fruit and the gift of the Holy Spirit. Many are in church, but are not safe. They deceive themselves by refusing the grace of God. There is perversion in the heart of many believers. Some have been given over to a reprobate mind to do what is ungodly and not convenient. The Lord is calling us to repentance. Only then can we truly manifest the fruit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
*1. The Promise of Power for Newness - Acts 1:8*
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me...”
a. Newness begins with the Holy Spirit. Without Him, there is no power.
b. The Holy Spirit is given to believers to enhance the work of the kingdom.
c. When the Holy Spirit came on the disciples in Acts 2:1-4, they turned the world upside down, witnessing, winning souls, and touching lives for God.
*2. The Evidence of Newness: The Fruit of the Spirit - Galatians 5:22-23*
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance…”
a. These nine fruit are the evidence of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in the life of believers.
b. Believers are not expected to sit on defense. We must wake up and live a life of holiness that will manifest the fruit of the Spirit.
c. Fruit shows character. Where there is no love, joy, peace and self control, there is no real newness. Many have the activities of church, but not the character of Christ.
*3. The Expression of Newness: The Gifts of the Spirit - 1 Corinthians 12:7-11*
“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.”
a. The gifts are: word of wisdom, word of knowledge, faith, gifts of healing, working of miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, divers kinds of tongues, and interpretation of tongues.
b. Gifts are for service and profit to the Body. They confirm the Word and advance the kingdom.
c. When believers walk in holiness and manifest the fruit, they can also manifest the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
*4. What Happens When You Enter Into Newness*
a. *You become fruitful* - Your life begins to produce the character of Christ, and your work produces results for the kingdom.
b. *You become empowered by the Holy Spirit* - Acts 1:8. Weakness gives way to divine ability.
c. *You become bold* - Acts 4:24-31. After they prayed, they were filled and spoke the Word with boldness. Fear leaves when newness comes.
*5. How to Enter Into Newness*
a. *Obedience to God’s Word* - Acts 1:4, 8. They tarried in Jerusalem as commanded. Newness begins when we obey instructions.
b. *Allow the Holy Spirit in your life* - Acts 2:42. They continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayers. Create room for Him.
c. *Give yourself to prayer and the Word* - The early church was birthed in prayer and sustained by the Word. No prayer, no fire. No Word, no direction.
*Conclusion*
The Lord is calling us out of perversion, deception, and lukewarmness. The Church must return to holiness, power, and manifestation. Newness is possible, but it comes through the Holy Spirit. When we bear His fruit and walk in His gifts, we will turn our world upside down for Jesus.
Repent from every ungodly work. Surrender again to the Lordship of Christ. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you afresh. Choose today to walk in obedience, prayer, and the Word so that your life will manifest fruit and gifts.
