Topic: MANAGING FRUSTRATION.
Text : Gen 29:18-30.
Aim: That the christian should understand that God can help them manage their frustration.
INTRODUCTION.
Frustration is a negative emotion which arises as a result of not getting what a person want or expect. In fact it means there is a difference between expectations and reality. When a person is frustrated, the person get lost in worrying and can lead to anger, depression, giving up in life, loss of self esteem, mental derangement and su***de. Today we will be looking at some characters in the bible who were frustrated at one point in their lives and how they managed their situation.
DISCUSSION.
1. Be calm and then take action. Gen 29: 18-28.
Is calming down in a frustrating condition an act of cowardice? Discuss.
It's very important you take a moment and calm down when something or someone frustrates you. Jacob labored for 7yrs to get Rachel for a wife but was beguiled with Leah. How did he handle it? Read vs 26. What was his next line of action?
2. Asses if you need to accept your situation or change it. 1 Sam 1:1-20; 1cor 12:7-10.
Is accepting challenging situation in life a sign that we are not strong in prayer?
If you can't change your frustrating situation, it's normal for your feelings to intensify, acceptance is the key. Paul besought God three times to take away his health challenges from him.
The response in those three occasions was "my grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness"
By that answer he realized that there was nothing he could do about the situation. But in the case of Hannah (1sam 1:1-17), Hannah refused to accept the situation. She went to God in shiloh and she received answers to her problem.
3. Distinguish between want, need and reality. Phl 4:19.
What you want May or may not be really what you need. "The lord promised to supply all your need according to his riches in glory " not all your want (desire).
How you adjust your want to reality?
