"That, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth". (Ephesians 4:22-24).

We have emphasized severally that the old man and its weaknesses have been permanently nailed to the cross of Jesus Christ. Some relate the above text as though Apostle Paul implies that the old man is alive and responsibility has been given to us to fight it. The insinuation is not only very far from the truth but also dead wrong! The very life of a man is in his spirit. The character and signature of the old life was in his spirit. At the new life, God took away the life in man's spirit and replaced it with the life of Jesus Christ. It is a given that spirits do not conduct any kind of business on the earth, therefore, God gave the man a body suit to relate to nature through the interfacing ability of the MIND suit.

The old man, though corrupted and messed up, is the same mind which the new man needs to function with its sinful desires and predispositions. It becomes impossible to express its nature with the mental branding of the old man. The foremost thing to take note of is the new self identity, branded in the holiness and righteousness God has already created. It is wrong to assume that God wants us to replicate His work.

Paul uses the metaphor of dressing here: He pictures God as a designer who makes a custom-fit mental suit and tells us to put it on. Our expected response should be to accept and wear it and not to enroll as tailoring apprentices in order to make suits format ourselves. 'Putting on the new suit' happens simultaneously with 'putting off the old one'. The more the new suit takes ascendency, the less the old suit is expressed in an inverse relationship. The Greek verbal mood expressed in "put off" and "put on" is very interesting, they are both expressed in the infinitive. God's mental and emotional disposition to putting-off the old man and its attitudes is perpetuity, without an end in sight. It is the same as putting on the new man.

As a matter of fact, the Greek word used for "put on" is "enduo" which means to sink into something until one is out of sight while the Greek word for "put off" is "apothitemi" which means to renounce. God's expectation of His children is to keep rejecting and refusing to acknowledge the old man and its desires, and to keep sinking into the new self attitudes until they completely submerge us.

It is also important to note the expression "and be renewed in the attitude of your mind". The popular and conventional teaching that believers should renew their minds is faulty. The voice of the verb, "renew" is middle/ passive. The middle voice is used when the subject does something for his own benefit while the passive voice is used when the subject is being acted upon by another. The middle voice used here suggests that we should be in agreement and align for our own benefits, the renewing work of the Holy Spirit. The passive voice is used because God through his Spirit does the renewing work in our minds as we desire and grow in the knowledge of the new man, through fellowship with the Holy Spirit in the ministry of the prayer and the word.


Thank You Father for Your love and grace towards me in Christ Jesus. I acknowledge and yield to the transforming power of your Spirit, moulding my mental dispositions and upgrading my entire life. Amen.

"For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now also we may live new lives. Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was" (Romans 6:4 NLT).

Again, Christians are dead men living. This is the greatest wonder of all times and the significance of the ritual of BAPTISM. To "baptise" is the Greek word, "baptizo" which means to immerse, sink, dip.
Baptism demonstrates that the old man and its weak life have been completely submerged into the death and burial of Jesus Christ. At the dipping of a person into water, the brand new life of the resurrected Saviour ensued at the raising of the same person from the water. If this foundational truth is not well understood and received, then our walk with God automatically becomes a huge struggle and Christianity turns into nothing but glorified Judaism and a mixture of Judaism and African traditional religion in most instances.

There must be a conscious acknowledgment of the occurrence of the death of the Saviour, followed by a conscious identification with that death. Without the identification with the Saviour's death, there is no salvation nor the salvaging of Adam's offence and its attendant consequence of the sinful nature, as well as the limitations it imposes in man's identification with the death of Jesus. We cannot afford to be casual with this truth but assert it with every vehemence and vigor, as it is the solidity of the victorious walk with God.

According to Apostle Paul, identification with His death begets identification with His resurrection life. It is a huge misnomer and spells failure to try to identify with His life without duly and dutifully identifying with His death. This is what leads to the work and labour- camp experience of most believers. Again, we emphasize that dead men cannot and do not work. Moreso, the believer is declaring and affirming that the weaknesses of the old life expressed as sinful habits, sicknesses and diseases, depressions, poverty, slowness of mind, academic and business failure, have been nailed to the cross of Jesus and are forever buried. We should not try to make anything happen! They have already happened and our place is to acknowledge and identify with the reality.

Having identified with the death of the Saviour, we should also in the same vein, identify with His powerful and all-conquering resurrection life. We do not look at ourselves any more through the spectacles of the old man irrespective of our experience. We keep identifying and insisting on this transcending new life until our experiences change and conform to it. You are all that the scriptures reveal about you!


Father, I acknowledge and identify with the death and resurrection of my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Thank You for the grace to live victoriously in Christ. Amen.

Colossians 3:3 "For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God" (Colossians 3:3).

The life of a believer starts with death! The Apostle in many places emphasized this.

"For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we may also live new lives" (Romans 6:4 NLT).

In the place of the old life is the limitless transcending new life OF JESUS Christ. The Apostle quips,
"I have been crucified with Christ and it is no longer I that lives but Christ that lives in me" (Galatians 2:20).

When this becomes a personal revelation and is internalized, it delivers one from many fears and bondages of darkness. Christ does not only live in us, He is our new life (Colossians 3:4). This is the miraculous power that breaks old mental patterns, brings deliverance and ushers freedom to a child of God. It is annoying that dear children of God run around "men of God" and "prophets" seeking "deliverance" from Satan and his human collaborators. Why would a believer be concerned that his name, image or belonging was submitted to a juju shrine? If that happens, it is a breach of spiritual order with attendant consequences.

"After the Philistines had captured the ark of God, they took it from Ebenezer to Ashdod, carried it into the temple of Dagon, and set it beside his statue. When the people of Ashdod got up early the next morning, there was Dagon, fallen on his face before the ark of the LORD. So they took dagon and put it in its place. But when they got up early the next morning, there was Dagon, fallen on his face before the ark of the LORD, with his head and his hands broken off and were lying on the floor, on his body remained. But after they had moved the ark to Gath, the LORD's hand was also against that city, throwing it into great confusion and afflicting the men of the city both young and old with the outbreak of tumors. (1 Samuel 5:1-4,9).

Spiritual order demands that a less shrine submits to a greater one. In their ignorant presumptuousness, the philistines took the shrine of Israel to their national shrine. Their god did not only bow but was badly dismembered. The entire nation was visited with death and sufferings. This is the consequence of disrupting spiritual patterns and arrangements. The simple implication of the fact that Christ lives in you is that you are now a shrine. Why should a child of God panic when the head of all principalities and power lives in you? Every shrine, known or unknown bows to you, brothers and sisters.


Father, thank You for Your love and grace towards me in Christ Jesus. I walk in the consciousness of my new life in Christ. Amen.

"Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created" (Revelation 4:11 ESV).

Believers in Christ are taught to discover the purpose and plan of God in all departments of their lives as this enhances their chance of survival, success and comfort. Many pour lots of praying time and are eager to hear the Holy Spirit reveal to them regarding the course of study to pursue, what university to attend, what job offer to accept, the business to invest in, who to marry, where to live and so on. Not so much emphasis is made about our purpose for living.

People are said to be living 'a dream life' when they have good jobs, careers, relationships and are living large. Could this possibly be the reason God left us on the earth after the new creation experience when there is a far better hope in heaven? I expressly differ! There is a PURPOSE for every believer's life. The education, good job, thriving career and great relationships are created by God, primarily for his pleasure. Life becomes meaningful and worthy when one realises that God created him, gave him the privileges, opportunities and placed him wherever he may be for the glory of God.

"for if we live, we live for the Lord, or if we die, we die for the Lord; therefore whether we live or die, we are the Lord's" (Romans 14:8).

The life we have is not ours. The believer has been bought with a price (1 Corinthians 6:20), therefore, belongs to His purchaser. Our estate is not better than the donkey that Jesus rode on his way to Jerusalem. It is not special except that Jesus rode on it. It would never have been decorated if the King did not have a need for it. No one should think of himself more highly than that donkey. We all are donkeys elected for His glory. Whatever we are and have as we live is for Him. He is our religion and the focus of our life. Living or dying makes no difference because we belong to him.

"Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage so that I could win Christ" (Philipians 3:8 NLT).

Christ and His purpose is our goal, finishing line and prize. Nothing else matters but the advancement of the kingdom of God. There are nations, cities, countries and villages to be reached and taken for Jesus Christ. This is why we are here. Do not let the opportunities become a distraction for the REAL PURPOSE AND CALLING.

"All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation" (2 Corinthians 5:18).

Do not be short-sighted! Catch the purpose and plan of God. He placed you wherever you are to reconcile men to Him. You have been called to the ministry of reconciliation. Use your God-given privileges to bring people to Christ. Reach out to folks in your school, business meetings, work place, neighborhood, on the street, market, bus, elevator and everywhere. Use your God-given finance to rent and build church halls, buy equipment and spread the good news of the mighty and gorgeous Cross of Jesus Christ.
Jesus and He alone be magnified!


Dear Father, thank You for loving me so much. I catch the plan and purpose of God for me and use my God-given privileges to bring people to Christ. Thank You Jesus. Amen.

"Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. Therefore mortify the members of your earthly body; immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry...and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them" (Colossians 3:2-5,7).

The "christian religion" mindset would read this passage from the fifth verse. His work-based mentality hits gold in the verse and never sees 'the Christ' in the entire narrative. The very first verse of this chapter implies the righteousness (not guilty verdict) of the child of God who being buoyed by the declaration, is being convinced that he has a higher life in Christ; therefore, should set his mind on the victorious life from the throne of God and not on the life of failure on the earth.

Colosse is one of the six cities of Phrygia where the rites of Cybele and Bacchus were practiced with recklessness in all manners of lewdness and indecency. Considering verse 7, we observe the expression "...you walked and lived in them..."; It was their "religion", culture and way of life. It would be almost impossible to switch from this heathen disposition to a polar opposite conduct by strength.

The Apostle, in anticipation of the mental and inner turmoil of this proposition to his new converts, presented the foundation of the expected radical transformation: he said, "you died". This is the primer of our walk with God. Dead men don't work! Dead men cannot change themselves; dead men are of no use and cannot participate in the business of life. Brothers and sisters we are dead men and women in Christ!

The Apostle says our new life is called "Christ". If this new life is not our life but the life of another, then it is impossible to live it. It is only smart to let the owner take a hold of His life.
Therefore, he says forget your activities and do not try to transform yourself but keep focusing on Jesus and His victories over the old habits of sin and failure; make Jesus the centre of your everyday life. Be conscious and move towards people and activities that stir your heart towards Jesus. Spend time in worshipful fellowship with the Lord. Spend your pass-time in church and not cinemas or with old friends. Get Involved in evangelism and keep sharing your faith. Start or join a prayer cell.
For our "working brethren" who have taken the machete to kill their members, I beg you consider this:

"Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there" (Galatians 5:24 NLT).

Christ already did what you are trying to do! If they had been nailed to the mighty Cross, there is none remaining for you to kill. Sorry about the disappointment! Brothers and sisters, no matter how much they try to rear their heads, account and consider them as dead just as you consider your old self dead through the Cross. Sorry about that! Let our focus be centered on the victorious one.


Father, thank You for the victory I already have in Christ. Thank You for Your love and grace for me in Christ. Amen.

"Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth" (Colossians 3:1-2).

Being raised up with Christ implies that one has been declared righteous by God. Here, the Apostle shows the righteousness of Christ and how to conduct His affairs in this world. This righteousness of Christ is torn between two different and rival worlds, the one above where Christ is seated and the one beneath ruled by the prince of the power of the air. He must make one his focus, priority and pleasure and that in some sense, excludes the other.

Seeking the things above is not an occasional or intermittent commitment but a consistent and continuous way of life and experience. The expression, "seeking the things above" is a bit ambiguous but the following clause, "where Christ is seated at the right hand of God", helps with some illumination. The seating position posits rest, following a satisfactorily accomplished task, whereas the right hand is the place of acceptance and power.

Apostle Paul admonishes the believer to become mentally occupied and engrossed in the victories of Jesus over Satan, the sin, the flesh, death and failure. This consuming focus on the provisions of the higher life, will break the limiting mental patterns of failure and defeat imposed by the low life of the earth. God's plan is that His children should operate from the "overcoming, more than conquering" consciousness of the throne of Grace, while walking on the earth.

Nothing can defeat us! We are overcomers of whatever Satan and his world could throw at us.

"Sanballat and Geshem sent me this message: "Come, let us meet together in one of the villages on the plain of Ono." But they were intending to harm me. So I sent messengers to them, saying, "I am doing a great work and cannot come down. Why should the work stop while I leave it to go down ... Four times they sent me the same message, and each time I gave the same reply" (Nehemiah 6:2-4).

Arab nationals, Tobiah and Sanballat in a Confederacy with other neighbours sought to destroy Nehemiah and stop the efforts of rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem. Feeling threatened by a resurgent Jewish nation and their selfish interest to control the region and its trade routes, they asked Nehemiah to come down and negotiate, which he utterly rebuffed four times.

The Church of Jesus Christ exalted and seated at the right hand of God, at the throne of grace in heaven is Satan's only hindrance to the domination of this world. We cannot and will not come down! The higher life in Christ is non-negotiable. Our hearts and minds must be fully focused on the victories of the cross of Jesus, no matter what strategies Satan schemes to occupy us with, of the provisions of the earth. We will only deal with the Mighty Cross and its provisions!


Dear Father, thank you for the provisions of the higher life in Christ Jesus. Thank you for the victorious life you granted me in Christ. I deal with the Cross alone in Jesus name. Amen.
