*WEEK 37*
*DATE: SUNDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER, 2025*

*TOPIC: THE FAITH OF OUR FATHERS (SERIES B)*

*BIBLE TEXT: II TIMOTHY 2:19-26*

*MEMORY VERSE:* *"For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid which is Jesus." - 1 COR. 3:11*

*INTRODUCTION:*
The C&S church of today had probably lost touch with the basics of the calling and ministry of St. Moses Orimọlade Tunọlase which is the reason some people have surrept**iously brought all manners of strange teachings and doctrines into the fold. This generation of C&S church would not know how to engage the future, if we don't understand how our Fathers operated in the past - talking about their faith, prayers and perseverance in order to profit from their walk and works of faith.

Meanwhile, it must be noted that C&S which is arguably the first Pentecostal church in Nigeria and Africa as a whole is one of the major offshoot of the church's movement in Nigeria. And it was established as purely a gospel church that is apostolic in nature and this is reflected in the documents used to register it with the Corporate Affairs Commission in Nigeria which stated inter-alia that "The major purpose of the church is for prayers and preaching of the gospel".

*ORIMOLADE AND CHURCH HISTORY IN NIGERIA*
The making of Nigerian Christianity started with the arrival of the Portuguese Trades explorers in the 15th century through Augustinian and Capuchin monks in the eastern part of the country. These people brought along religion with their trade expeditions. Though their missionary efforts were largely unsuccessful but they made initial efforts through Catholicism which virtually disappeared by the 17th century. Nevertheless, the Britons made another significant exertions to establish Christianity as a religion in Nigeria.

It must be noted that prior to this time, the people were engrossed in their traditional religions of worship of idols. The faith of these people were so strong in their gods before the advent of Christianity.

The Briton had come not only to trade with Africans but to also introduce their religion to the continent. And in the year 1842, the first mission of the Church of England was established in Badagry, southwest Nigeria by Henry Townsend. And by 1964, Charles Longley, the then Archbishop of Canterbury consecrated Rev'd. Samuel Ajayi Crowther, Bishop for the Niger mission, thus becoming the first African Bishop and Bishop of the Niger Territories with its headquarters in Onitsha.

After the Church of England (Anglican Communion), comes the Methodist church, African church, Assemblies of GOD, The Apostolic church and so on (not in any particular order). The above signaled the birth of Christianity as a religion in Nigeria and beyond. However, none of the aforementioned churches was established by a Nigerian.

*OUTLINE*
THE BIRTH OF ALADURA CHURCHES
Around the first two to three decades of the 20th century, Nigeria was rocked by genuine movements of the Spirit. These movements did not just spring up out of frustration or hostility, but were genuine move of the Holy Spirit for that time especially the one of St. Moses Orimolade Tunolase which perhaps was the first Pentecostal wave that rocked Nigeria by any native clergy.
The movements were due to a number of factors which are highlighted bellow:
1. The revival movement arose as a genuine move of the Spirit of GOD and as an answer to the heart-cry in the land and in the lives of many native people who had been left untouched by the type of religion brought to us by the Europeans particularly due to language and cultural barriers.
2. The kind of Christianity the Europeans brought, practiced and propagated was not in conformity with the socio- cultural exigencies of the people who are very emotional and highly sociable with penchant for dance and music with high percussions. And again, the church administrative style left out the natives and as such, most Nigerians did not have adequate sense of belonging, therefore, it never appealed to them much. It did not so much address the yearnings of the people who were looking for spiritual succor and nourishments.
3. In the final analysis, the people of the native land eventually saw Christianity as great rick to their lives and culture as the people who had joined the church were asked to surrender their idols without anything physical presented to them as alternatives save faith that is intangible and impalpable by their assessments, in contrast to visible idols which they formerly appeased to combat the forces of evil and malevolent powers as embodied in witches and wizards whose potency European's Christianity denied but which the natives knew existed and real. This resulted in many living hypocritical lives by professing Christianity with their mouths publicly but patronized traditional religion in the secret.
4. It was also identified that the Europeans Christianity denigrated all Nigerian social values, languages and cultures through their religion. Services were conducted in English in most cases though with interpretations, but was not appealing to the masses who were largely illiterates. It must be noted that Christianity as a new religion then was not only based on the European cultures, values and languages, but also promoted same which was totally alien and unacceptable to Nigerians.

Consequently, when the prophetic movements and revivals arose with fervency, dynamism, and charismatic prophetic figure, speaking the same language as the natives and dressed like them as well as combating the same evil forces that the Europeans have denied but which Nigerians knew to be real, a new, real and apostolic Christianity was birthed led majorly by St. Moses Orimọlade Tunọlase.

*CONCLUSION*
However, these prophetic movements would not have resulted in church denominations or separate church movements but for the deep intolerance shown by the European churches across Nigeria and the policy of antagonism by the colonial authorities to the proponent of the new apostolic and Pentecostal moves in the land particularly the person of St. Moses Orimọlade Tunọlase as signposted in a stanza of one of our major hymnal "A ro'jọ mo Stephen, A ro'jọ mọ Peter, A ro'jo mọ Jesu Oluwa, A ro'jọ mo Mose Orimọlade, Edya ko kiye s'ara". (A case was made against Stephen, Peter was so accused, our Lord Jesus was persecuted, so also was Moses Orimọlade wrongly accused, all must be watchful)

A DAILY BIBLE DEVOTIONAL READING, FROM THE SPIRITUAL FATHER'S DESK.

"DAILY IN HIS PRESENCE"

DATE: SUNDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER, 2025

TOPIC: ABSOLUTE SUBMISSION TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

BIBLE TEXT: JAMES 4: 4 -10

GOLDEN VERSE: "Humble yourself before the Lord, and He will lift you up." James 4:10.

BIBLE READING IN ONE YEAR: Hosea 1-4

EXPOSITORY
In commemoration of the 'Day of the Lord' and the commencement of a New week, we shall explore a major virtue every Christian must imbibe and portray (genuinely) to confirm their connection with Christ Jesus as claimed-Humility in submission to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

The pronouncement of God in Philippians 2:8-9 saying "Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the Name that is above every name" is the aftermath of the submission of Jesus Christ to the will of God, despite all the glaring challenges He faced.

This singular act, as demonstrated by the Lord, is a perfect proof that "the way down" is actually "the way to the top."

To pattern your life after Christ Jesus' humility will show your pursuit of divine wisdom, which you require so as to fulfill God's ultimate purpose at any given time (Proverbs 4:8).

Those who are corrupt in their ways and attitude do not have an iota of evidence to show that they portray any bearings of Holy Spirit's Character (Fruit) in them nor are prepared for any at all.

The lament of Apostle Paul regarding the likes of Demas, Alexandra the coppersmith; also Korah, Dathan, Abiram, Jannes and Jambres who stood in confrontation to Moses in his leadership role as ordained by God is a pointer that the ungodly's lack of submission to God's instructions is the beginning of their failures.

They chose not to recognize the workings and instructions of God, which came through the power of The Holy Spirit, and they eventually perished.

On the other hand, you are wired to conform to God's will, just as He also commissioned you to be perfect in the position He placed you (Genesis 1:31; Hebrews 8:12; 10:17).

Beloved, you should be prepared to always clothe yourself with humility towards God, submit to Him and fellow sojourners in His Vineyard who are your co-labourers, in order that you may be lifted high up for His glory.

PRAYER: God I earnestly pray that You eliminate within me every seed of arrogance that is capable of making it impossible for me to submit to Your leading in Jesus Christ Name.

SHALOM.

A DAILY BIBLE DEVOTIONAL READING, FROM THE SPIRITUAL FATHER'S DESK.

"DAILY IN HIS PRESENCE"

DATE: SUNDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER, 2025

TOPIC: GOD'S EXPECTATION OF YOU

BIBLE TEXT: ROMANS 8: 28 -39

GOLDEN VERSE: "What, then, shall we say in response to this?" Romans 8:31a

BIBLE READING IN ONE YEAR: Ezekiel 41-43

EXPOSITORY
The arrival of the first Sunday of the month called for Praises and Communion to worship His Majesty, the Grace of Whom, has kept us thus far.

In response to His Marvelous salvation and mercy, it is important to worship and walk with Him in consciousness of His expectations from us.

While it is praise worthy to be among the privileged few that calls on God and in turn became shown His favor as to be an elected vessel of honor in His Kingdom Agenda (Ephesians 1:4), it is also important to walk in fulfilment of His expectations.

The great sacrifice that was done through Christ Jesus is what brings justification (how God views you and declares you righteous by the reason of the Atonement of Christ Jesus).

It is in effect of this new and graceful state that you, along with other God's people, should progressively be more like Christ Jesus.

The more you grow spiritually, the more the manifestation of the anticipated transformation into the state of likeness of Jesus Christ - the state every Christian is expected to portray and possess (Philippians 3: 20 -2 1).

Having received God's approval and favor, He expects you to live up to expectation and be like Christ Jesus the First Born amongst many Brothers, Who is the Author and Finisher of our faith (Romans 8:29; Colossians 1:18).

In this great assurance that God is for those who are set apart for His glory, and since you are one, walk in strong confidence, believing that no one can accuse nor condemn you because Christ Jesus already died for you and He was raised for your justification, especially now that He is at the Right Hand of God interceding for you.

This is the foundation upon which it is certain that nothing can separate you from God's eternal love (Romans 8: 38).

You should be able to confidently declare, just as Job did when in distress, that I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end" He will stand upon the earth" (Job 19:25).

PRAYER: Everlasting Father, You have the ultimate security, and I unreservedly submit my body, soul, and spirit under Your guidance and control in Jesus Christ Name.

SHALOM.

*WEEK 36*
*DATE: SUNDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER, 2025*

*TOPIC: THE FAITH OF OUR FATHERS (SERIES A)*

*BIBLE TEXT: HEBREWS 11:17-35*

*MEMORY VERSE:* *"Beloved when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that you should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered to the saints." - JUDE 1:3*

*INTRODUCTION:*
Glory to GOD for bringing the church, Cherubim and Seraphim thus far. This is our centenary celebrations (*100 years*) and the GOD of our fathers must be praised. However, no doubt, this generation needs to connect or reconnect with the GOD and faith of our fathers. The church need to reawake as of old. If we would experience the exploits of the church like of old as opined in one of our hymnals (Kerubu ma gb'ode kan, kosi 'ru eyi ri....... Cherubim is making waves like never seen before.
Awake church!
It must be noted that our father's lamps were lit in the secret place, set ablaze by holiness in the open; and sustained by consecration and tears shed in prayers during intercessions. However, what was set ablaze by the agonizing of our fathers can never keep our own lamps lit perpetually. This generation wants their lamps to be forever lit but doesn't want to labour in the secret place. We've forgotten that the lighters to our fathers' lamps was majorly fervent prayer done in the secret with absolute faith in God and His Spirit.

And just as Abraham was the first Hebrew Patriarch and is revered in Judaism, Christianity and some other religions, Saint Moses Orimọlade Tunọlase is also recognized as the first C&S Patriarch and progenitor, and one of the foremost GOD'S generals in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.

However, it is rather unfortunate today that a generation has been raised in Christianity who perhaps are ignorant of the past. This reality is particularly worse among the youth, especially in C&S. Research has revealed that the congregation of today possesses little or no knowledge of the great patriarchs that once shook Nigeria for Christ and paved way for the Pentecostal revival movement in the black race - The Church Fathers. This is simply because they are disconnected from the rich history of the legacy of power and glory that were once the strength of these fathers in the Faith.

Therefore, as our church marks its centenary celebration (1925-2025), attempt is made to recall to memory the faith, prayers and persistence of our fathers in faith particularly, the founder of this great commission St. Moses Orimọlade Tunọlase. Searchlight is beamed into his life to drive home a message, just because he is part of the cloud of witnesses which Apostle Paul said encompasses us roundabout in his epistle to the brethren in Hebrews. Heb. 12:1.

Moses Orimọlade Tunọlase was born in 1879 into the royal family of Ọmọ'ba Ode Sodi [1] of Okorun Quarters, Ikarẹ-Akoko, Western Nigeria. The young Orimọlade used to attend St. Stephen's Anglican Church (C.M.S) - the only church in Ikarẹ at that time. He usually sang alone, and anytime he does this, strange light and sound will fill the place.

On one occasion, the strange light and sound in the church drew the attention of the Resident Minister who went to investigate. On opening the door, there was nobody except a young boy that sat and was singing alone - yet it sounded like a multitude of people singing orchestral.

*OUTLINE*
*The uniqueness of St. Moses Orimọlade*

*a. Typology of Jesus Christ.* He was here on planet earth on a mission which he lived and died for. And just like Jesus, he engaged in no other life's affair - no wife, no child (1 mean biological). However, just like the Saviour too, his children are innumerable across the globe today. John 18:37.

*b. Full of the Holy Ghost and power.* It is certain that he was greatly anointed with the Holy Ghost and power. Acts 10:38. And this he brought to bear everywhere he went with God working with him, confirming his message and prayers with signs and wonders following. Mark 16:15- 20.

*c. Enjoyed angelic ministry and ministrations.* Orimọlade enjoyed the service of the angels to the fullest right from the womb. Heb. 1:13-14. It was recorded that on one occasion, his angel had to help his mother lift the heavy firewoods she could not carry after tying same. And being a cripple person, his movements most of the time were aided by the angelic ministrations which made him appear in places without human aids and often times, without vehicular movement. Ps. 91:11-12 compared with Acts 8:39.

*d. He ran full gospel and apostolic (Pentecostal) ministry.* He was known as the praying father (Baba Aladura), and his ministry and ministrations centered on prayers and fasting ONLY. Signs and wonders were granted to be done by his hands after the order of the early Apostles. Acts 14:3. And yet, he mixed nothing with the pure gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and fervent prayer; no additives, no catalysts like coconuts, clay pots, specially formulated soaps, leaves and herbs, petty sacrifices, no angelism, no spiritsm, no divination, he didn't make or carry any ark of covenant etc. All of the above were not found in him; though he lit candle once, yet it was as a victual and never to pray. In any case, during his life time, candle was so much in short supply, therefore, lighting of candle couldn't have been the basis of his church service and prayers.

*e. Has overflowing anointing.* While we cannot expressly say that GOD anointed Orimọlade without measure like Jesus Christ, it is certain that he carried an overflowing anointing which is evident by the number of great ministers and ministries that came out of him in Nigeria alone. For instance, the Redeemed Christian Church of GOD, founded by Pa Josiah Akidayọmi came out from C&S, the founder of Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor W. F Kumuyi was a member of C&S; likewise Bishop David Ọlaniyi Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church (a.k.a Winners' Chapel) to mention just a few. He is the pioneer of the apostolic and Pentecostal ministries and churches in Nigeria and the whole of Africa by any indigenous clergy. And as at today, almost all firebrand and thriving ministries in Nigeria and beyond have their roots traceable to the ministry of St. Moses Orimọlade Tunọlase.

*CONCLUSION*
The story of Moses Orimọlade Tunọlase must be told to this generation as inspiration and motivation of our faith, prayer and perseverance as end-time Christians and soldiers of Christ. The new generation churches and Christians have a lot to learn from his life and ministry.

*SHALOM!*
