A powerful story of prayer and David Livingston - great explorer and missionary of Jesus Christ

When he first began his ministry in Africa, some of the native tribes opposed him and one tribe said they were going to kill him and everyone in his party. One afternoon, as they were setting up camp, word reached Livingstone that these warriors had been tracking him all day, were outside the camp and were going to attack and kill everyone when it got dark. That night, on 14 January 1856, David Livingstone wrote in his journal: ‘It is evening. I feel much turmoil and fear in the prospect of having all of my plans knocked on the head.’ Those who studied his handwriting said you could even see the fear in the way he wrote the letters. He went on, ‘But Jesus said, “All power is given unto me in heaven and earth, and lo, I am with you always, even unto the ends of the earth” … This is the word of a gentleman of most strict and sacred honour, so that’s the end of my fear. I feel quiet and calm now.’ By this point in his journal the writing is firm and no longer betrays any fear.

They didn’t attack that night and later the tribe was brought to faith in Christ. David Livingstone asked the chief of the tribe, ‘Do you remember the night you were tracking my party?’ ‘Yes,’ the chief replied. ‘We had heard rumours you were going to attack us,’ said Livingstone. ‘That’s right,’ the chief said, ‘we were ready to attack the camp that night and kill you and everyone else.’ ‘Why didn’t you attack?’ David Livingstone asked, and the chief said, ‘When we got close to the camp, we looked and saw 47 warriors surrounding your camp with swords in their hands.’ David Livingstone was baffled. They hadn’t had any guards or any warriors.

Later, when he was on leave in Scotland, he shared this story at a church that was supporting him. A man came up to him afterwards with his prayer journal and said, ‘Look, I wrote it down, January 14, 1856, was that the night?’ David Livingstone said it was and the man then said, ‘That night a group of men came to pray for you. We prayed for your protection. I wrote it down. There were 47 men praying that night for you.’

HOW TO DEAL WITH SLEEP DURING PRAYERS😭😭😭😭

One major enemy people battle with in the place of prayers is sleep, I remember sometimes as soon as prayer starts, it's just like a sleeping dose was given to me.

I have cried and wept bitterly about the issues of sleep disturbing my prayers, I thought after crying to God, He will rebuke sleep & ensure that as soon as I start praying I won't sleep again, haha it didn't happen ooo.

See it's not happening to you alone, even Peter and his colleagues slept during prayers.

“And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭26:39-40‬ ‭KJV‬‬

But the result of peter’s sleeping is that followed from afar, denied Jesus thrice, and went back to fishing, if he had prayed he would have been imparted with supernatural enablement to withstand the wiles of the devil.
Prayer is a platform for the supply of supernatural energy.‬‬

Sleep is very good for rest and refreshing yet it can be one of your greatest enemy, it can rub you of destiny opportunities.
May you not be fast asleep on the day your golden opportunity comes knocking at your door and you can’t hear until it returns.

“So wake up, sleepyhead. How long will you lie there? When will you wake up and get out of bed?”

TO DEAL WITH SLEEP IN PRAYERS

1. You need discipline and determination

2. When you are feeling sleepy don’t deceive yourself, don’t lie down or kneel down, stand up, walk around, shout the prayers, jump, combine exercise with prayers.

3. Sleep early to wake early .

4. Eat light, you cannot want to do a vigil and finish a bowl of pounded yam, you will only pray in your dreams.‬‬

5. It's good to also have a prayer partner who can tap you when you doze off and you must be sincere to agree that you slept not lying and saying I didn't sleep, I was just meditating.

6. Pray with loud music or messages

7. Pray out loud (SOROSOKE), engage your body, it is easy to sleep when silent.
