Christmas Season: A Time Of Sharing Gifts
Someone once asked me, "Pastor, are we supposed to celebrate Christmas in December? Was Jesus born in December?" I quickly responded that since celebrating the birth of Jesus is a good thing, we can celebrate it on any day of our choice. We can celebrate it ten times yearly, just as we celebrate Mother's Day many times yearly. What matters is that we do the right thing when we celebrate it. Today's devotional reveals what we must do as we celebrate Christmas.
Scriptural Reference
And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh. (Matthew 2:11 KJV)
Understanding The Scripture
Some wise men deciphered a star to mean that Jesus was born and followed the star from the East to meet Him. When they saw Jesus, they worshipped Him and gave Him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
The two things the wise men did was to worship Jesus and give Him gifts. Similarly, I enjoin you to do the same: worship and give gifts to the Lord.
How Do You Give Gifts To The Lord?
You can give gifts to the Lord by helping the needy, as any help you give them goes to the Lord (Matthew 25:31-40). So, this Christmas season is an opportunity for you to experience the joy of giving to people in need. Unfortunately, many people prefer to give gifts to the rich.
Who Are Those In Need?
Those in need do not necessarily need to be beggars, as some professional beggars are rich. Those in need are mainly people who lack food. They may be people you know or strangers. So, it's essential to identify some people in need and help them as much as possible. The wise men travelled from the East to Bethlehem to give gifts to the Lord because they knew it was important.
