*DO NOT TAKE GOD ’S PATIENCE FOR-GRANTED* (Matt 21:33-43)

The 1st reading and Gospel of this 27th Sunday in ordinary time year A, highlights *man’s ingratitude and God’s patience.* God, like the owner of the vineyard has prepared everything for mankind in his loving care for us, yet man has always remained ungrateful through sin and rebellious acts.

God shows us by the extra efforts of tending the vineyard in Isaiah 5:1-7 & sending messengers to the tenants in Matthew 21: 33-43, that He is not a vindictive or a punishing God, but a God who loves & cares for us, and wishes that the sinner changes from his evil ways and repent. *That is the story of God’s patience.* But we need not take God’s patience for granted & for weakness, because in the end, the patience of the landowners in the 1st reading and Gospel were exhausted and they took decisive actions on the vineyard and the tenants.

God has placed us in various vineyards ranging from our families, to our work places, Churches, schools and other places where we meet other humans in our society, and God expects us as those He has blessed with special graces and blessings to bear good fruits befitting of the amount of graces and favours bestowed on us, by the quality of life we live each passing day.

So as you go forth, *do not take God’s patience forgranted but rather show appreciation to God for his blessing in your lives by obeying his word and living lives worthy of tenants in the Lord’s vineyard.*

*IT WILL END IN PRAISE* (Job 42:12; Lk 10:17

This 26th week in ordinary time, year A, ends on a good note, and with good news, as is recorded in the first reading and the gospel. In the first reading Job confessed that he has said crazy and naughty things he didn’t understand before God as a result of his frustration, but now he knows better and repents of those words and God blessed him. Sometimes, we also say crazy and empty words out of frustration against God. But the truth is that God’s love does not exempt us from the challenges of life, and he never abandons us in our struggles. So hold on and know better for JESUS KNOWS ALL ABOUT OUR STUGGLES.

Secondly, because Job remained faithful in his trials, God blessed his latter days more than his beginning. Amidst the burdens we bear and sorrow we share, we can hold on strongly and know that it will not be night forever. The morning will surely come, and it will end in praise. No matter what pain you are going through, hold on strongly and do not loose your guard. Those who hold firmly to the end will come back rejoicing like the disciples in the gospel of today.

Let us, therefore, rejoice in our trials and hold on greatly to the hope we profess because he who promised is faithful, was faithful, and will always be faithful no matter how hopeless the situation may be. Do not be afraid; God is constantly at work in your life; turning around the bad situations in your life for good and restoring all that the enemy has stolen.

*"The waters fell until the tenth month when, on the first day of the tenth month, the mountain tops appeared."* (Gen 8:5)

This 1st day of the month of October, Holy mother Church celebrates the *Solemnity of Our Lady, Queen and patroness of Nigeria;* constantly seeking the help of God and the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, as we mark the 66th anniversary of our independence as a country.

In this trying moments in the life of our country Nigeria, when all hope to recover a hopeful nation seem hopeless, we really need all the help we can get from above in order to come out of the mess that selfishness, greed and wickedness have put us. Thus, we turn to our dearest Queen and Mother Mary to interceed for us as she did at the marriage feast of Canaan.

Amidst the burdens we bear and the sorrows we share as a country, in the face of the mixed feelings of gratitude for being alive amidst sadness, fears, inflations, poverty, insecurity and marginalization, our hope is anchored on the truth that no condition lasts forever. Someday, the floods will dry up, and we shall come forth from the Ark to a new beginning where all will be at peace (Is.11:1-10). May the mother Mary interceed for us.

Therefore, as we savour the beauty of this 10th month, let us savour with hope, that just as the top of the mountains were made visible on the 1st day of the 10th month (a sure sign that the floods are going down and dry land is imminent), our anticipated blessings, breakthroughs, victory and the satisfaction of our deep yearnings shall also be made manifest and visible to the glory of God.
