MARK OF TRUE FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD
1 John 1:5-7

MEMORY VERSE: "If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth" (1 John 1:6)

Beloved, welcome to the new month! We pray that you will possess and enjoy the fullness of Christ throughout this new month in Jesus Christ Name!

Our Memory Verse in our devotional today begins with: “If we say". This refers to general profession by many of whom they are in relation to following Christ.

Anyone who claims to have fellowship with God and be following Him must know clearly that God is LIGHT, in there is no darkness in Him at all (John 1:4, 9; 8:12; 12:36; James 1:17). This means, that God is holy. His Word is the perfect truth. He is perfect in righteousness. There is no sin, ungodliness, wickedness or imperfection with God.

Thus, understand, that it is impossible to have fellowship with holiness and truth while living in sin and error. Choosing sin is the same as rejecting God, and if we reject Him how can we share with Him in anything, or claim to have fellowship with Him? See 2 Corinthians 6:14. The sorrowful fact is that there are many who claim to know the Lord who do not know Him, and they prove they do not know Him by their manner of life (Titus 1:16).

To claim to have fellowship with God and yet walk in darkness of sin, hypocrisy, deceit and unrighteousness is to be “Lying”. Anyone with this claim is either deceived or trying to deceive others. In either case their claim is utterly false.

Anyone who is truly in fellowship with the Lord, (1) is genuinely born again, (2) walks obediently in God's Word, (3) separates totally from sin and the sinful world, (4) serves the Lord in holiness within and without, (5) keeps himself totally from all defilement, (6) lives to please the Lord alone in the world, and, (7) sets his mind and focus on the things above, while (8) living in the consciousness of Christ's imminent coming for the rapture of the saints

'FLOURISHING ON EVERY SIDE' DAILY DEVOTIONAL

WALKING TO POSSESS THE HEAVENLY INHERITANCE THROUGH CHRIST
(1 Peter 1:3-9, 13-15)

MEMORY VERSE: "And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance" (Hebrews 9:15).

There is an heavenly inheritance for everyone who is faithfully following the Lord, and is living the life that pleases Him here on the earth, even to the very end. And, as we see in our text, this heavenly inheritance is reserved in heaven and we cannot possess it until we make it to heaven, and, without holiness no one who claims to be a child of God can get to heaven (Hebrews 12:14; 2 Corinthians 7:1; 1 Thessalonians 3:13; 4:7; 1 Peter 1:15, 16).

We can only become kingdom citizen through grace of God, as we repent of our sins and accept Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior.

Apart from being born again by grace, we are sanctified by grace through faith (Acts 20:32). We must, thus, continue to walk in uncompromising holy living, within and without, until we meet the Lord Jesus Christ in the sky at the rapture of the saints (Ephesians 1:3, 11-18; Hebrews 9:15; 1 Peter 1:3-5).

The inheritance that is reserved for us in heaven is: (1) Eternal inheritance (Hebrews 9:15); (2) Incorruptible inheritance (1 Peter 1:3, 4). (3) Undefiled inheritance (1 Peter 1:4). (4) Inheritance that cannot fade away (1 Peter 1:4; 5:4). (5) Glorious inheritance (Romans 8:17; Ephesians 1:18); (6) Everlasting inheritance (Matthew 19:29; 25:34); (7) Magnificent and incomparable inheritance (1 Peter 1:4, 5; 1 Corinthians 2:9-10). This inheritance can only be yours if you make it to heaven. Anyone that misses heaven will not have access to this inheritance.

And, to make it to heaven you must: (1) be born again and made a new creature in Christ Jesus (John 3:2, 3; Acts 2:3; Romans 10:9, 10; John 1:12); (2) be sanctified and made pure through the supreme sacrifice of Jesus on the cross of Calvary (Hebrews 13:12; 1 Thessalonians 5:23); (3) live a life of holiness daily without compromise (Romans 12:1; Isaiah 35:8); (4) have daily self denial and discipline (Matthew 16:24-26; 1 Peter 2:11; Matthew 5:29). (5) maintain consistent fellowship with the Lord and his children ( 1 Corinthians 1:9; Acts 2:42; 1 John 1:6, 7); (6) Make all necessary restitutions and maintain a clear conscience void of offence towards God and man (Luke 19:8; Acts 24:16). (7) Be faithful to God in secret and in the open (1 Corinthians 4:17).

We pray earnestly today that you will serve the Lord faithfully till you meet Him in the sky at the rapture of the saints, and you will not lose any of your rewards in Jesus Christ Name!

'FLOURISHING ON EVERY SIDE' DAILY DEVOTIONAL
(For individuals, groups and families)

JUDGEMENT IN THE VALLEY OF JEHOSHAPHAT
(Joel 3:1-16)

MEMORY VERSE: "Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision" (Joel 3:14).

Welcome to the devotional. As we see in our text, the devotional today is from Chapter 3 of the Book of Joel. The Chapter talks about God's plan for Israel in the last days, and, the judgement of God coming upon the unrepentant people after the Rapture of the saints.

First, God promises to deliver and restore back the children of Israel from captivity (Joel 3:1). This restoration of Israel will see Israel experiencing both physical and spiritual prosperity (Amos 9:14, 15; Isaiah 2:1-4; 40:9-11; 44:1-5; Jeremiah 31:35-40; Zechariah 14:8-11).

Some of these great promises are already coming to pass, as the Jews are returning back to the land of Israel in great numbers, while a larger portion of the promises will be fulfilled at the end of the antichrist rule, when the Lord delivers Israel and reigns down mighty restoration upon them (Ezekiel 37:15-27; Hosea 2:14-23)

As the Lord delivers and restores Israel, so He will gather every nation, who have maltreated Israel, and all those who rejected Him, together and judge them in the valley of Judgement. The valley of Judgement is called the "valley of Jehoshaphat" (Joel 3:2). It is also called the "valley of decision" (Joel 3:14).

The Word 'Jehoshaphat' means 'the Lord Judges', pointing to the judgement of the Lord fiercely coming upon the nations of the earth, on that day - the day of the LORD (Zechariah 12:3).

Israel was treated like slaves by those who conquered her (Joel 3:3; Obadiah 1:11). Particular among those nations were Tyre and Sidon which horribly maltreated Israel, and yet rejected God and His offer of mercy. God will judge them for their horrible deeds (Joel 3:4-8; Isaiah 23:1, 2).

While Tyre and Sidon will be judged by the Lord, God will also punished the Gentiles who rejected the Lord Jesus Christ and His offer of salvation (Joel 3:9-12). These Gentile nations rely on their possessions, human power, weapons of war, and carnal wisdom.

There are many, today, who rely on their physical achievement, possession, wealth, arsenal of war, etc. They reject the Lord, but put their trust in their scientific, technological and biological discoveries. They shall be defeated and be judged by God at the valley of decision and their weapons, wherein they trust will not save them at all (Joel 3:14-16a). The roaring of the Lord shall destroy them all: they shall not escape (Joel 3:16a; Hebrews 12:26).

While the people who reject the Lord will be judged by God, those in Israel who have turned to Him and have accepted Christ as their Saviour and Lord will be secured in Christ, for "the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel" (Joel 3:16b).

Drawing out from this, true believers who put their trust in the Lord, and are serving Him in holiness and righteousness, need not fear at all. Through the rapture of the saints, they shall be saved from the "day of the Lord" that is coming upon the evil doers after the Rapture. They shall be with Christ in heaven, and reign with Him on the earth for a thousand years (Psalm 2:12; 5:11; Zechariah 12:8, 9; Revelation 20:6)!

Devotion from the Book of Joel (5)

THE PROMISE OF THE OUTPOURING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
(Joel 2:28-32)

MEMORY VERSE: "For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence" (Acts 1:5)

When anyone, turns truly to the Lord, surrender his life totally to Christ, and serves the Lord in true holiness and righteousness, God's promise to him is: he "shall never be ashamed" (Joel 2:27).

Also, God promises, that in the last days, "I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit" (Joel 2:28, 29).

The outpouring of the Spirit will be "in the last days" (Joel 2:28). The "last days" refer to the time from the First Coming of Christ, and continue, at least, until His Second Coming (John 6:39; 11:24; 2 Timothy 3:1; 1 Peter 1:20; 2 Peter 3:3; 1 John 2:18; Jude 1:18).

And, when God pours His Spirit upon His people, there will be powerful charismatic flow of the gifts of prophecy, revelation, and manifestation of miracles, signs and wonders (Joel 2:28-30a).

And, when charismatic gifts powerfully manifest in the lives of Spirit-filled believers, the awesome, supernatural presence of God is greatly witnessed by His people. For example, Paul the Apostle declares that if the church prophesies, an unbelieving visitor will declare an "report that God is in you of a truth" (1 Corinthians 14:24, 25).

Also, note clearly that, the promise of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit was never to be a one-time event. Rather, it would be an ongoing promise to everyone who accepts Christ as Saviour and Lord. This means, every true believer can, and should be filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38, 39; 10:44-48; 11:15-18).

The outpouring of the Holy Spirit will result in the great surge of mighty miracles, signs and wonders, in these last days, and, great manifestation of end-time cosmic signs (Joel 2:30, 31), and of the "day of the Lord" (Matthew 24:29-31). The "day of the Lord" begins immediately after the Rapture of the saints. It will be the time of the outpouring of God's wrath upon everyone who rejects the Lord Jesus Christ, and thread under foot His finished work on the cross at Calvary.

Believers, today, must know that we are closer to the moment of the coming of the Lord more than ever before, and the day of the Lord is at the door.

And, to escape the "day of the Lord", we must, keep ourselves from sin and abhor it totally, abide firmly in the Lord, be committed to holy living within and without, love the Lord and His Holy Word more and more, be always 'somewhere working for the Lord', be watchful all the time, and, be prepared in readiness for the coming of Christ.

Finally, we must daily call on the Name of the Lord for His grace, help and strengthening in the heavenly race. For, "it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered" (Joel 2:32).

'FLOURISHING ON EVERY SIDE' DAILY DEVOTIONAL

PROMISE DELIVERANCE AND RESTORATION FOR THE TRULY REPENTANT
Joel 2:18-27

MEMORY VERSE: "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls" (Matthew 11:28, 29).

Welcome to the Bread of Life. In the past weeks, we have been breaking the Bread together from the Book of Joel. And, in the Book of Joel, we saw God urgently calling the children of Israel to genuine repentance and returning back unto Him (Joel 2:12-17).

Also, as He called the children of Israel at that time, so He is calling everyone today to turn away from sin, be cleansed in the Calvary's Blood, and surrender totally unto He Jesus Christ as the Lord and Saviour (Ezekiel 18:30-32; Isaiah 55:6, 7; Acts 17:30, 31).

God commands everyone (sinners, backsliders, hypocrites, the worldly, the compromising, the rising and falling, the neither-hot-nor-cold, and, the complacent) to truly repent, be genuinely converted, and serve Him in true holiness and righteousness (Mark 1:15; 6:12; Luke 24:47; Matthew 3:8; Acts 3:19, 20).

When the children of Israel truly repent and turn back to God, then God will rise Arise with pity for them as "his people" (Joel 2:18), and bring them again into the destiny that He planned for them and their land (Joel 2:19). When the Bible talks about God being "jealous for his land" (Joel 2:18), it is not talking about the sinful jealousy and envy of the carnal, but about God's holy, fiery zeal to see His righteousness and true holiness and His covenant accomplished in the lives of His people (Isaiah 26:11).

True repentance and genuine conversion would bring great, indescribable blessings to every people. To the people of Judah, (1) They would be delivered from their enemy's invasion ("the northern army"(Joel 2:20). The Lord will destroy the wicked who rose up against them. (2) Their reproach and mockery shall be taken away (Joel 2:19b), (3) Joy and jubilation will return to the land (Joel 2:21, 23). (4) Barreness and desolation shall be taken away (Joel 2:22, 24). (5) There shall be powerful recovery and restoration (Joel 2:25). (6) There will be plenteousness of God's blessings in their midst (Joel 2:26). (7) Praises and testimonies will fill their mouth (Joel 2:26), and, (8) the knowledge of the presence and power of the Lord shall fill the whole Israel (Joel 2:27).

All these blessings and many more are also for anyone, today, who turns to the Lord in true repentance and becomes genuinely converted.
