PREPARE TO MEET YOUR GOD

Preparation is defined as the activity or process of making something ready or of becoming ready for something. We prepare ourselves for so many things in life, we get prepared for exams, a job interview, a birthday party, to get married, to build a house, to have children and the list goes on. Since we make so many preparations for different events here on earth, have we taken into consideration that we need to get prepared to meet God? Are we ready to face God and spend eternity with him? We have to keep in mind that everything that we are busy preparing here on earth will vanish (Matthew 6:19) but preparing yourself to face God will remain eternal (Matthew 6:20).

We cannot escape this meeting with God. We may run away from many appointments here on earth, but encountering God one day is inevitable. We all have to face God, whether we are believers or not, rich or poor and prepared or not. It is wise to get prepared for that day.

Amos 4:12 states “Prepare to meet your God”. This verse was addressed to the people of Israel, but it is meant for us as well. Meeting God requires a preparation. According to the Strong Bible definition, the word “Prepare” means “to be firm, be stable, be established, to be set up, to be ready, to make arrangement”.

In other words, we need to stand firm in our faith in God, be stable in our walk with God and be ready to meet God.

Why should we be prepared to meet God?

No one knows the day God will come

“But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only”. Matthew 24:36

“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief” 2 Peter 3:10

It is better to get prepared to meet God than to be caught by surprise, for no one knows the date

Advent reminds Christians of the sacred meaning of Christmas. Despite the secular preparations taking place, eg buying presents and going to parties, Advent reminds Christians to remember and prepare for the birth of Jesus. May I plead with you to make a special preparation for this, my counsel to you is Paul's counsel to the Romans. And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. 12 The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh. Rom. 13:11-14

The Advent Season is all about reflecting on how we can prepare our hearts and homes for Christ's birth in the world as it is today. It is a time for faith communities and families to remember, through prayer, reflections, special music, and good deeds what the true meaning of Jesus' birth is.

Let us celebrate Advent not only by thanking God for Christ's first coming to Earth as a baby, but also for his presence among us today through the Holy Spirit, and in preparation and anticipation of his final coming at the end of the age, this is very imminent.
Matt. 24:44 ... So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

HAPPY ADVENT
