PAPER PRESENTATION ON: WORSHIPPING GOD, NATURE, AND YOUR PARENTS AS THE TRUE RELIGION.

INTRODUCTION
Religion has been defined by scholars, philosophers and theologians in many ways. But the Bible simplifies it. True religion is not just rituals, denominations, titles, or going to church on Sunday. True religion is a lifestyle of worship that flows in three directions: Upward to God, Outward to His Creation, and Inward to the Home through our Parents.
Many people claim to be religious but fail in one of these three. They claim to love God but destroy His creation. They claim to love God but dishonour their parents. They claim to love nature but deny the Creator of nature.
This paper presents the thesis that The True Religion is a tripod - Worship of God, Respect for Nature, and Honour for Parents.* If one leg is broken, religion collapses.
PART 1: WORSHIPPING GOD - THE FOUNDATION OF TRUE RELIGION
The first and greatest commandment is the worship of God.
Deuteronomy 6:4-5: "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength."
Exodus 20:3: "You shall have no other gods before Me."
Who is God to be Worshipped?
God is the Creator, Sovereign, and Sustainer of all things. Worship in Hebrew is _Shachah_ - to bow down, and in Greek _Proskuneo_ - to kiss the hand of a superior, to show reverence.
True worship of God is not lip service.
John 4:23-24: "But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."
Matthew 15:8-9: "These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me..."
How Do We Worship God?
1. Through Obedience: Worship is obedience.
1 Samuel 15:22: "Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams."
2. Through Praise and Thanksgiving:
Psalm 100:4: "Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name."
3. Through Living a Holy Life:
Romans 12:1: "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service."
A man who does not worship God cannot claim to have any religion. He is an idol worshipper. As Psalm 14:1 says, "The fool has said in his heart, There is no God."
PART 2: WORSHIPPING / HONOURING NATURE - THE EVIDENCE OF TRUE RELIGION
When we say "worshiping nature" we do not mean idolatry - bowing down to trees, rivers or mountains as God. That is forbidden:
Romans 1:25: "Who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever."
What we mean is Reverencing, Respecting, and Stewarding Nature as the handiwork of God. Nature is God's second book. The Bible calls it general revelation.
Psalm 19:1: "The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork."
Romans 1:20: "For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead..."
A true worshipper of God cannot hate what God made. To despise nature is to insult the Artist.
A. Nature Reveals God's Power and Wisdom
Job 12:7-10: "But now ask the beasts, and they will teach you; And the birds of the air, and they will tell you; Or speak to the earth, and it will teach you; And the fish of the sea will explain to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this..."
Every leaf, mountain, ocean, and animal is a sermon about God. When we destroy nature carelessly, we are silencing God's sermons.
B. Man is Appointed as Steward of Nature
From the beginning, God gave man responsibility over nature.
Genesis 1:28: "Then God blessed them, and God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."
Genesis 2:15: "Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it."
To tend and keep - _abad and shamar_ in Hebrew - means to serve and to guard. True religion therefore includes environmental stewardship. A Christian who pours oil into the river, kills animals for sport, or destroys forests without conscience has failed in religion.
Revelation 11:18: "...should destroy those who destroy the earth."
Proverbs 12:10: "A righteous man regards the life of his animal, But the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel."
Jesus himself used nature to teach - lilies, sparrows, seeds, fig trees. He respected nature.
True religion sees God in nature and respects nature because of God.
PART 3: HONOURING YOUR PARENTS - THE PROOF OF TRUE RELIGION
The third leg is honouring parents. You cannot claim to love an invisible God you have never seen if you despise the visible parents who gave birth to you.
1 John 4:20: "If someone says, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?"
This applies more to parents.
A. It is a Direct Commandment from God
Exodus 20:12: "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you."
This is the first commandment with a promise. It is not a suggestion. It is repeated in the New Testament:
Ephesians 6:1-3: "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with promise: that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth."
B. Dishonouring Parents is a Sign of a Decayed Society
2 Timothy 3:1-2: "But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves... disobedient to parents..."
Proverbs 20:20: "Whoever curses his father or his mother, His lamp will be put out in deep darkness."
Proverbs 30:17: "The eye that mocks his father, And scorns obedience to his mother, The ravens of the valley will pick it out, And the young eagles will eat it."
C. How Do We Honour Parents?
1. By Obedience: While under their roof.
Colossians 3:20: "Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord."
2. By Respect and Care: Even when old.
Proverbs 23:22: "Listen to your father who begot you, And do not despise your mother when she is old."
1 Timothy 5:4: "But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show piety at home and to repay their parents; for this is good and acceptable before God."
Jesus condemned the Pharisees who claimed to be religious but refused to care for parents:
Mark 7:10-12: "For Moses said, Honor your father and your mother... But you say, If a man says to his father or mother, Whatever profit you might have received from me is Corban... you no longer let him do anything for his father or his mother..."
Many people give big offerings in church but their parents at home have no food, no drugs, no shelter. That religion is fake.
True religion must start at home. Charity begins at home. Your first congregation is your family.
PART 4: THE SYNTHESIS - WHY THESE THREE MAKE THE TRUE RELIGION
These three are inseparable.
1. God is the Source: We worship Him as Creator.
2. Nature is the Evidence: We respect His creation.
3. Parents are the Channel: We honour those through whom He brought us to life.
To fail in one is to fail in all.
A man who worships God but beats his father is a hypocrite.
A man who honours his parents but worships idols has no eternal hope.
A man who claims to love God but destroys God's earth is a destroyer, not a worshipper.
This is what James meant:
James 1:27: Pure religion is practical. It visits the fatherless and widows, and keeps itself unspotted.
The Old Testament prophets said the same:
Micah 6:8: "He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?"
Doing justly includes respecting creation and family. Loving mercy includes honouring parents. Walking humbly is worship of God.
CONCLUSION
The world is tired of fake religion - religion of big buildings, loud noise, long prayers, but no love, no character, no environmental care, no family values.
True religion is simple:
WORSHIP GOD ABOVE YOU. HONOUR NATURE AROUND YOU. HONOUR PARENTS WHO BORE YOU.
If we return to this, our religion will be pure, our earth will be healed, and our families will be strong.
Ecclesiastes 12:13: "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is the whole duty of man."
Fearing God is worship. Keeping His commandments includes caring for His earth and honouring our father and mother.
This is the true religion.
