*HAPPY 105 YEARS OF GLOBAL IMPACT THROUGH THE BBWEEK EXERCISE WORLD WIDE* .

*Origin of the Boys' Brigade Week Exercise:*
BB Week originated in 1920–1921 as a financial lifeline for the Boys' Brigade after World War I, transforming into an annual, nationwide, and later global, fundraising and promotional event.
It officially launched in 1921 with the "prayers and energies" of members to support the organization's Christian youth work.
Following the war, the Boys' Brigade faced financial struggles. Despite initial reluctance, the Southern Committee in the UK tested the scheme in November 1920, resulting in a positive response from family and friends.
Following the successful trial, the entire country took part in the first official BB Week in 1921, adopting it as a National event .

*Purpose:*
The BB week is designated to raise funds for the Brigade and raise awareness of its mission to advance Christ's kingdom among boys and promote habits of obedience, reverence, and discipline.

*Evolution :*
Over the decades, it became a cornerstone activity for the organization, including special commemorations in 1954 (centenary of founder Sir William A. Smith's birth) and throughout the organization's history.

*Global Impact:*
While starting in the UK, the concept of a dedicated BB Week/focus has been adopted by various national branches worldwide. In 2026 we are celebrating 105 years anniversary of the Boys' Brigade in the global space across 56 different countries of the world.

*BB Week In Nigeria:*
The Boys’ Brigade Week is observed between the last Saturday of the month of April and the first week of May of every year or as may be directed by the National Executive Committee and enshrined in the Constitution of the Boys' Brigade Nigeria.

The programme involve activities as may be determined by each State Council and shall be rounded off with a church service on the Sunday marking the end of the activities. During the exercise there shall be public collections of money annually during the Boys’ Brigade Week Activities, here-in-after referred to as “BB Week”.

The materials for the BB Week, including the collection cards and forms for financial returns shall be distributed by the National Secretariat at least one month to the commencement of BB Week activities.

The proceeds of the BB Week shall be shared in accordance with the following formula;

i. Company 25%.
ii. Group/Battalion Council 5%.
iii. State Council 35%.
iv. National Council 35% or as may be decided by the National Council.

The 2026 BB Week is around the corner and we encourage all members across all levels to be part of this great exercise.

*BB Week National Awards:*
Each year the National Council celebrated the BB Week service awards according to the performance of the member State Councils. In 2025, the National BB week exercise recorded a great performance from member State Councils and awards were given based on two categories.

*Category A:* Early Bird remittance
1st position - Adamawa State Council N2,500,000.
2nd position - Plateau State Council N2,000,00

2nd position - Nasarawa State Council - N3,500,000
3rd position - Adamawa State Council - N2,500,000.

Unfortunately Imo State Council has not made either of the categories for 9 years now due to our poor performance in the Annual BB Week Exercise.

*Imo State Council Vision:*
The Imo State Council has set up an effective team for the BB Week exercise. They shall develop strategies and modalities for distribution and collection of cards alongside remittance of funds which shall effectively be redistributed as approved by the Constitution of the Boys' Brigade Nigeria.

*Theme:*
For the year we are considering the theme, " *THE BOY AND HIS ENVIRONMENT"*

A Solemn Moment of Renewal and Recognition – Imo State Boys’ Brigade Rededication Service

Yesterday marked a deeply inspiring and spiritually uplifting moment in the life of the Boys’ Brigade in Imo State as the Imo State Council of the Boys’ Brigade gathered for her Rededication Service at Bishop George Cockins Anglican Church.

The sacred gathering brought together Boys, Officers, and patrons from different companies across the state, all united with one purpose — to rededicate themselves to God and recommit to the principles and discipline of the Boys’ Brigade. It was a moment of reflection, renewal, and spiritual strengthening as members reaffirmed their pledge to serve God, the Church, and humanity with integrity and dedication.

Following the service, a brief but productive council meeting was held where important discussions were made concerning the Upcoming State Council Election & the growth, development, and future activities of the Imo State Council. Leaders and officers deliberated on strategies that will further strengthen the Brigade’s mission of building disciplined, responsible, and God-fearing young people.

One of the key highlight of the gathering was the presentation of certificates to participants of the National “Train The Trainers” Course. The certificates were officially presented by the Vice President of Owerri Zone, who commended the participants for their commitment to leadership development and capacity building within the Brigade.

In recognition of excellence and smart appearance — a core value of the Brigade — awards were also presented for the Best Dressed in various sections, celebrating members who exemplified discipline, pride, and neatness in their turnout.

Indeed, the day was not only a time of spiritual rededication but also a moment to celebrate growth, leadership, and the enduring values of the Boys’ Brigade.

As the council moves forward from this memorable gathering, the renewed commitment displayed by members promises greater impact, stronger fellowship, and continued advancement of the Brigade’s mission across Imo State.

To God be the Glory! 🔵⚓

THE OFFICE OF A PATRONS IN THE BOYS’ BRIGADE NIGERIA .
Part one

*NTRODUCTION :
According to the oxford advanced learners dictionary 6th edition, A Patron is defined as “ A Famous person who supports an organization such as a charity and whose name is used in the advertisements etc .

According to the constitution of the Boys Brigade Nigeria, Section 2; “ Patron ” means any person, male or female, appointed in accordance with this Constitution.

The words Patroness is also used by the dictionary to define a female Patron, but according to the Constitution of the Boys’ Brigade Nigeria, the word Patroness is NOT to be observed, as both male and female officers are addressed as Patrons in the Boys’ Brigade.

Therefore, *Patrons are notable Men and Women of good Christian standing appointed in accordance with the Constitution of the Boys’ Brigade Nigeria to facilitate the activities of the Boys’ Brigade across all levels* .

*HISTORY OF PATRONS IN THE BOYS' BRIGADE* .
When the first Boys' Brigade Company was established in 1883, we didn't have Patrons as part of the BB structure but in 1887, Queen Victoria and King Edward VII took special interest in the activities of our founder Sir Williams Alexander Smith by taking young Boys' off the street and using the Boys' Brigade as a tool for their Transformation.
They supported the activities of the Boys' Brigade and gave Sir William A Smith the platform to establish Boys' Brigade Companies in England from Wales.

In 1897, HM The Duke of York (Later King George V) was installed as the First Patron in Dublin Battalion Council .

In 1909, Sir William A Smith was knighted by King Edward VII who later became a Patron of the Boys' Brigade in 1910.

This made the Office of. Patron a Royal Calling among the British Elites till date.
All the British Royals were invested as Patrons of the Boys' Brigade including our longest serving Patron Queen Elizabeth II (70 years) and presently his son King Charles III was installed as a Royal Patron of the Boys' Brigade in 2024.

They sponsor, inspire Boys and equip the Boys' Brigade activities through awards like the:
-Queens Badge Award,
-Kings Badge Award
-Duke of Edinburgh Award etc.

In Nigeria we also have Patrons all across spheres of societal class from the religious, educational, business lords and to the political, all striving to fulfill this same vision.

*UNIFORM OUTFIT FOR THE PATRONS* .
The Patrons as honorary officers shall wear the Officers uniform A; as provided in the constitution of the Boys’ Brigade as follows: Collar badges well placed on a Navy blue or black suite with a neat white long sleeve shirt worn inside. A Boys’ Brigade tie worn around the neck with the Glengarry cap and cap badges placed on top the head, Boys’ Brigade belt worn around the waist and a black laced shoe with a pair of black stockings.

*INSTALLATION OF PATRONS* .
The installation of Patrons in the Boys’ Brigade shall be in a divine service, as in enrolment services. During the installation, the Patron shall show his allegiance to God by taking the oath of non-allegiance to secret societies and cults as stated in Section 58 of the Constitution of the Boys’ Brigade, Nigeria. Any member *NOT WILLING* to renounce membership of such societies by not participating in this oath shall be required to withdraw from the Boys’ Brigade.

*THE MISSION STATEMENT OF PATRONS* .

*ENGAGE* :
Patron’s shall:
- Provide opportunities for Boys to meet together in their communities and engage in a range of fun and developmental activities.

- Empower Boys' by involving them in decision making at all levels of the BB and giving responsibility appropriate to their age and aptitude.

*PARTNER*
Patron’s shall:
- Work in partnership with Churches to encourage the development of a personal Christian faith finding partnerships within communities to meet the needs of the Boys' and young people.

- Create opportunities to develop partnerships with other appropriate organizations and agencies.

*SUPPORT*
Patron’s shall:
- Be responsive to the needs and aspirations of all Boys' and young people regardless of differing abilities, identities, backgrounds, gender or culture and providing appropriate support, advice and guidance.

- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of Boys' and young people through the implementation of robust procedures in the selection, development and supervision of leaders.

- Provide high quality training and resources for leaders, and providing a network of professional staff to support and equip voluntary leaders for.

Now you have been appointed as a Patron of the Boys' Brigade Nigeria, are you ready to ENGAGE, PARTNER and SUPPORT the advancement of Christ's Kingdom?

When properly engaged, the Office of a Patron is a full time Calling/Ministry.

Shalom.

Please do prepare your mind for part two.
