THE SCHOOL OF SCRIPTURE
Spotlight: Pride and Humility
Text: Proverbs 16:18, 18:12

I welcome you to today's School of Scripture in the mighty name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Today's study focuses on Pride and Humility. Let's look at our scriptural texts before we proceed further in the study.

Proverbs 16:18 says that "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." Additionally, Proverbs 18:12 also declares that "Before destruction, the heart of man is haughty, and before honor is humility."

From the aforementioned scriptures in this study, we can clearly see the path that we should take. The scriptures didn't try to sugarcoat when it said that pride leads to destruction. The number one evidence of pride is rejection of godly counsel. When you refuse to yield or listen to godly counsel, you have proven that you are proud. A proud person believes that he or she knows better than anyone else, and therefore there's no need for taking the counsel of others.

The scriptures frown on such behavior; a humble person listens and reconsiders action, while a fool or a proud person will neglect godly counsel and be trapped by the enemies.

On the contrary, humility brings honor. Humble yourself, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, and He shall lift you up. Moreover, the scripture in Proverbs 18:12 clearly says that "Before destruction, the heart of man is haughty, and before honor is humility."

Watch what goes on in your heart. The scriptures again say "before destruction, the heart is haughty, and humility brings honor." Beloved, a humble heart is easily malleable in the hands of God. People who are often difficult to be entreated are considered proud people.

May God not humble you; most times when God humbles people, it's not always nice. That's why the scripture commands us to humble ourselves. When you humble yourself, God will elevate you, but when you exalt yourself, God will humble you.

Remember that pride makes you look like the devil, while humility makes you look like God.

Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
