Let’s talk about worship
Worship is not something you do out of fancy. You have to be sure you are doing the right thing. First you must decide who you are going to worship. The old elder-statesman and preacher Joshua, after recounting how God has brought the people of Israel to the Promised Land exhorted them
“If you have no desire to worship the LORD, choose today whom you will worship, whether it be the gods whom your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. But I and my family will worship the LORD!" (Net Bible) Joshua 24:15
The Lord Jesus Christ, our real Joshua who brings salvation to us, told that Samaritan woman by the well
“You people worship what you do not know. We worship what we know, because salvation is from the Jews.” (Net Bible) John 4:22
I think Jesus’ assertion is not just true for the Samaritans of the old time but even for many in this present generation. Listen, every man has a god. Every man worships a god. But it is not every man that worships the Almighty God, “Yahweh”, as revealed in Jewish religion.
The good news was that the Samaritan woman found Jesus and declared Him to be the Messiah. One of the most revealing statements by Christ that reveals the heart of the Father was in verse 23
"But a time is coming--and now is here--when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such people to be his worshipers". John 4:23
You can also be a true worshipper today by accepting God’s offer of forgiveness through Jesus Christ just like the Samaritan woman who was saved inspite of her awful past.
Paul, an Apostle of Christ while walking around Athen gave this observation
“For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: to an unknown god. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship--and this is what I am going to proclaim to you.” Acts 17:23
Paul subsequently pointed the people to Jesus the Saviour of mankind through Whom God will one day judge the world (Acts 17:31).
Beloved, this is an opportunity for you to believe so that you can be a true worshipper (Acts 16:31). Religion cannot save but Jesus saves. Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour today. In that sense, you will be choosing the Almighty (Yahweh) as your God and He will guarantee your hope of eternal life (John 3:16). Amen.
