John 7:32-36

YOU WILL NOT FIND ME

“I am with you for only a short time, and then I go to the one who sent me.” John 7:33, NIV

Jesus came to the world as the fulfilment of God’s promise to reconcile with humanity through the seed of the woman that was to crush the head of the serpent, that great deceiver who influenced the fall of the first man, Adam (Genesis 3:15). Many Old Testament prophets predicted His coming. In fact, John the Baptist emphatically proclaimed Him as the Lamb of God who took away the sins of the whole world (John 1:29). Jesus indeed came at the fullness of time to fulfil God’s promise of restoration to His people (Galatians 4:4).

Unfortunately, Jesus came to His own, but was rejected by them (John 1:11). Some people of His day saw Him as a controversial figure. Some saw Him as demon-possessed; to others He was nothing more than a good man, while a few put their faith in Him. Jesus spent just a little over three years to accomplish His mission. There is a time when you can find Jesus- when you are alive and still breathing. At death, if you have not found Jesus it will be too late. Be wise to find Him today, doubt no longer

• Birthday Blessing: ... He will rouse himself on your behalf and restore you to your rightful place. Job 8:8

RBT Passage: Ezek 33, 34; James 2

Lord, give me the strength to accomplish what You’ve given me to do and the faith to trust You that what I haven’t been able to accomplish You’ve already assigned to someone else. – Alexander Solzhenitsyn

Hebrews 11:1-6

PLEASING GOD

And without faith it is impossible to please God... - Hebrews 11:6, NIV

Hebrews chapter 11 gives us a list of great men of God who did wonderful things in their lifetimes. The secret of their success was faith, for “without faith it is impossible to please God” (Hebrews 11:6). Faith makes us to have confidence in what we hope for and gives assurance in what we cannot see (Hebrews 11:1). To have faith in God requires believing that God exists even when we cannot see Him with physical eyes. We also have to believe His Word as the truth we have to live by even when situations are contrary.

Many go to church but still believe more in the word of human beings than that of God. Many claim to be Christians but rely on the promises of God while ignoring His instructions. The major key to walk and work with God is faith. Do you find yourself struggling on the journey of faith? Do you actually believe there is God? Do you hold on to Him according to the revelation of the Bible? If yes, do you think you will still maintain your lifestyle if God were to be watching you physically? You can only please God by faith.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-11

CHILDREN OF LIGHT

So then, let us not be like others who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. 1 Thessalonians 5:6, NIV

The thrust of today’s passage is the suddenness which shall characterize the second coming of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. At His coming, destruction will come on those who have disobeyed His Good News for the world. They will be in darkness (vv. 1-4) as opposed to believers who are children of light because they obeyed the Good News.

Paul admonishes that since believers are children of light they should live as such (v. 6). Children of light should be distinct in their ways of life. This is possible when they are (i) at alert – ‘alert’ is a military term meaning getting ‘ready to hear and carry out the command of the commander-in chief, in our case, Jesus; (ii) together in fellowship – it is in our gathering together that we encourage and build one another up in our most holy faith. What do you often do, and where do you go as a child of light?

Birthday Blessing: Then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine. (Proverbs 3:9, 10)

Jonah 2:2-9

A PSALM OF THANKSGIVING

But I, with song of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you... Jonah 2:9, NIV

Someone share the story of an imaginary prayer santuary in heaven. He said the rooms meant by requests and pleas of people were very full and busy but the rooms reserved for thanksgiving was barely occupied. This shows that most people rarely thank God, especially when things are not working the way they want.

In the passage today, Jonah prayed a prayer of thanksgiving. The content of His prayer would make one think that Jonah had already been delivered from the belly of the fish at that time, even though he was still there, he acknowledge the sovereignty and sufficiency of God. He spoke of God's deliverance, answered prayers and God's love. His sacrifice to God was shouts of grateful praise.

We must realise that our situation does not need to change before we give thanks to God. Appreciating God in the path of deliverance and restoration. In the midst of our challenges, pain and distress, we should an attitude of thanksgiving. God has been faithful to us and to our nation therefore, He deserve thanksgiving.

Pray with this: And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the daytime from the heat, and for place of refuge, and from a covert from storm and from rain. Isaiah 4:6

Deuteronomy 11:12-21

GOD CARES FOR ALL

It is a land the Lord your God cares for; the eyes of the LORD your God are continually on it. Debt. 11:12, NIV

Contrary to what some people think and teach, God has not lost and will not lose control of the world that He created. He is committed to take care of all humankind and nature. The processes and events that we consider natural are sustain by the power of God. We must be careful not to attribute the work of God to any gods, power or man. Scientists may try their best to explain all these things but we must remember that God is the source of all things.

In our text, God assures the Israelities He would surely take care of them. In like manner, Jesus spoke of how God takes care of His people and creation. The sparrows and the raven are not forgotten by God (12:6, 24). God also clothes the lillies and grasses of the field.

There is no doubt that God is sufficient to meet all your need. Do not allow anxiety or prosperity make you doubt God''s power or take you away from Him. You can be rest assured that God will not abandoned you and tell others about this good news.

Pray with this: The sun will not smite you by day, nor the moon by night, the Lord shall protect you from all evil.... Psalms 121:6-7

Luke 17:1-10

INCREASED FAITH

"If you have faith... you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted... and it will obey you." Luke 17:6, NIV

Faith in God is the foundation for great works. The disciples of Christ, some uneducated, led the church to become a force to reckoned with globally because they had faith. God performed wonders through the disciples in the early church. The Gospel spread fast, cultural barrier were broken and outstanding miracles took place.

Like the disciples in the passage, we probably have expectations of a certain level of faith we must attain before we can be used by God. While it is true that we must grow in faith, even the smallest seed of faith in use is very potent. The power to do exploits comes from connecting to God by faith (Daniel 11:32b).

Faith is not just doing the miraculous, it also applies to personal issues too. It works in our academics, family, relationships and health. No matter how deeply rooted the problem is, by faith it can be uprooted. As you hear and obey God on 'little' issues in your life, your faith would actually begin to grow because you will experience God's power. Faith increases when we obey the faithful God.

Pray with this: The Lord will make you His mount Zion and create upon your dwelling place a cloud and smoke by day, and the shinning of a flaming fire by night. There will be a maximum protection upon your glory. Isaiah 4:5

RBT Passage: 2 Sam. 1, 2; Luke 22:28-53

The practicality and radicalism of your faith gives you greater access to the mercy seat of Yahweh

Acts 20:17-24

JOURNEYING FROM FAMILY

And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem... Acts 20:22, NIV

Parting with loved ones is always with mixed feelings. Consider it this way, how did you feel the last time you were about to leave your loved ones for a long journey?

When Jonathan and David were about to part with each other, they both wept profusely and it was recorded that David wept the most (1 samuel 20:41). Even Jesus departure was not a pleasant news to His disciples though it was for their good. His promise of the Holy Spirit in John 14 was what comforted them.

Paul knew the importance of the gospel of Christ; so he never missed an opportunity to share it. At the church in Ephesus, he was told of what would befall him in Jerusalem, but since he was lead by the Spirit, he still left for Jerusalem.

Anyone who wishes to do the work of God must make it the number one priority and goal.
What is making you shrink from being an evangelist in this generation? Remind yourself of Jesus's words in Matthew 10:37 and decide today to leave all for Him.

*Pray with this: From six calamities he will rescue you; seven no harm will befall you. Job 5:19
