Brethren, Alhamdulillāh Rabbil-'Ālamīn 🤲🏻 for the privilege of witnessing the 3rd month of the year 1448 AH.
The month of Rabi'-ul-Awwal is upon us. The Crescent (Al-Hilāl) is 3 days old tonight.

This dhikr is to be recited within the first 3 nights of sighting the new crescent. From the 4th night onward, it is referred to as the Moon (Al-Qamar).

May Allah grant us the blessings of this month and accept our 'ibādāt.

Lessons Deduced

The basic principle is that it is obligatory to listen attentively and prohibited to speak while the Friday (Jumu'ah) sermon (khutbah) is being delivered. However, Islamic law recognizes limited exceptions where speaking is permitted out of need or necessity. Accordingly, reciting the Qur'an, engaging in adhkār, or counting prayer beads (misbaḥah) during the khutbah are all impermissible.

Exceptions in Which Speaking Is Permissible

1. Speaking to the Imam for a legitimate need: A member of the congregation may speak to the Imam when necessary, and the Imam may address the congregation for a valid religious purpose or guidance.

2. Speaking to prevent harm: Speech is permissible in cases of urgent necessity, such as warning a blind person of danger or alerting others to a fire or similar emergency.

3. Sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ: When the Prophet's name is mentioned during the khutbah, one should invoke blessings upon him silently, without disrupting attentive listening.

4. Speaking between the two sermons: Conversation is permissible during the interval between the first and second sermons, as the prohibition applies only while the sermon is being delivered.

5. Speaking before and after the sermon: Conversation is permissible before the Imam ascends the pulpit and after the sermon has concluded, until the prayer begins.
