π THE REMEMBRANCE OF BABA S.B.J. OSHOFFAβS LAST TEN (10) DAYS ON EARTH
DAY 5 β THURSDAY, 5TH SEPTEMBER 1985
As we continue this journey through the final ten days of the earthly life of Baba S.B.J. Oshoffa, Day 5 takes us to Thursday, 5th September 1985βanother remarkable day filled with moments that would later become significant in the history of the Celestial Church of Christ.
On this particular morning, Papa Oshoffa had a lovely and seemingly peaceful morning. As part of his new routine at the hospital, he woke up, attended to himself, and dressed carefully in his usual appearance and style.
He put on his wristwatch, sunglasses, long gold chain, and other personal accessories. His children who were with him at the hospital, Ebenezer and Edith Oshoffa, were delighted to see him looking so well.
After breakfast, Papa rested on his bed and began speaking to Ebenezer and Edith, giving them several instructions.
At the time, neither Ebenezer nor Edith fully understood the deeper significance of those instructions. Yet, as the days passed and Papa eventually transitioned from this earthly life, many of the things he told them would become important and would guide them in making significant decisions concerning his affairs and the Church.
PAPA OSHOFFAβS DESIRE TO GO HOME
Among the instructions Papa gave, he asked his children to contact one of his uncles, Olusegun Obasanjo. However, his children tried to discourage him from pursuing the idea.
Papa also instructed them to reach out to Honorary Evangelist Chris Omeben, one of his spiritual children, who at the time was serving as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone Two, Lagos.
Papa expressed his strong desire to return home, saying:
> βMo fαΊΉΜ lα» sΓ ilΓ©, Edith. Mo fαΊΉΜ lα» sΓ ilΓ©. Lα» sα» fΓΊn α»mα» mi Omeben, kΓ Γ³ fΓΊn wa lα»Μpα»Μ Γ wα»n α»lα»ΜpΓ Γ‘ tΓ³ pα»Μ, kΓ wα»n mΓ‘ bΓ a tαΊΉΜ wΓ‘ pa, nΓtorΓ Γ¨rΓ² yΓ³Γ² pα»Μ. Mo mΓ‘a fi αΊΉsαΊΉΜ kan ya KαΊΉΜtΓΉ, mo mΓ‘a dΓ© Abeokuta, αΉ£ΓΉgbα»Μn mo mΓ‘a lα» simi sΓ Imeko.β
Meaning:
> βI want to go home, Edith. I want to go home. Go and tell my son Omeben to provide us with many policemen as escorts, so that we will be in sufficient numbers and no one will harm us, because there will be a large crowd. I will stop at Ketu, proceed to Abeokuta, but I will eventually go and rest in Imeko.β
Edith Oshoffa then responded to Papa, suggesting that if he truly intended to return home and expected a large crowd, perhaps they should choose a working day for the journey.
She said:
> βTΓ αΊΉ bΓ‘ mΓ‘a lα» sΓ ilΓ©, tΓ Γ¨rΓ² bΓ‘ mΓ‘a pα»Μ, αΊΉ αΉ£e jαΊΉΜ kΓ a lα» nΓ gbogbo α»jα»Μ iαΉ£αΊΉΜ, kΓ wα»n mΓ‘ wΓ nΓbΓ¬ kan?β
Meaning:
> βPapa, if you are going home and the crowd is going to be large, why don't we go on a working day, so that the crowd will not be too much?β
Papa Oshoffa simply looked at her, smiled, and replied:
> βαΊΈ jαΊΉΜ kΓ a fi sΓlαΊΉΜ lαΊΉΜbΓ a ti αΉ£e wΓ.β
Meaning:
> βLet it remain as it has been said.β
Those words, spoken during what appeared to be an ordinary conversation, would later carry a much deeper meaning when viewed in the light of the events that followed.
EDITH RETURNS TO KETU
That evening, Edith Oshoffa left First Shardack Hospital, Ilupeju, and travelled to CCC Mission Ketu to give the family and the elders of the Church an update on Papa Oshoffaβs condition.
However, before Edith arrived in Ketu, the elders were already waiting for her.
When she eventually arrived, they immediately began asking about Papa Oshoffaβs health and progress.
But the conversation soon became more serious.
The Church elders questioned Edith concerning the authority under which she and Ebenezer Oshoffa had kept Papa away from other members of the family and from the elders of the Church.
The questions raised that evening marked another important moment in the unfolding story of Baba S.B.J. Oshoffaβs final days on earth.
And the story continuesβ¦
