PUTTING YOUR CAREER HOUSE IN ORDER
It is important to note that as an employee, you cannot be everything to every employer. Hence, you need to have a sense of direction and purpose in life. Having a sense of direction helps to shape your career choice and trajectory. It is a disservice to yourself and your career if you think that you can serve the purpose of every employer. The consequence of attempting this, is that, such an individual will run him or herself into the ground, because of being pulled in every direction.
This underscores why you need to put your career house in order especially if you find yourself hopping from one job to another in quick succession or holding down a job that has no enriching and contributory impact on your career.
The recipe for putting your career house in order begins with CLARITY OF PURPOSE. If you aren't clear about what you want to achieve, you are likely to jump on the bandwagon and make choices that would become a drag on your career trajectory. Clarity of purpose helps you to identify, define and shape your career aspirations.
It is also noteworthy that those who lack INTEGRITY and DIGNITY in the workplace would be putting their career on the line. Judas Iscariot failed to understand that he would be damaging his apostleship by playing ball with the Jewish leaders and senators, who were antagonists of the doctrines of Christ. He soiled his hands and threw Christ's investment in his ministry through the window.
Those who are committed to enriching their career understand the importance of joining a focused COMMUNITY that will keep them in the loop of emerging topics and trends. On the flip side, an individual may belong to groups and associations that discuss microwave means of making money or taking shorts-cuts to stardom. This explains one of the reasons why the youth demographic is increasingly becoming cyber-criminals, money ritualists, drug addicts amongst others. When you mingle with the ungodly, you are likely to bungle your career except you make a timely reversal of your decision.
Finally, putting your career house in order will require that you get rid of career limiting attitudes that would upset your effort in advancing your career. For instance, if you are reputed for picking a fight with colleagues in the workplace, demonizing the contributions of others at work, making advances in the workplace amongst others, you would be lightning up a wildfire that could raze down your career house. Hence, get rid of attitude that will deter you from attaining your desired altitude. Also, choose to put your career house in order by cultivating the right competencies and bagging the right certifications that will enhance your EMPLOYABILITY.
Putting your career house in order gives you great visibility when opportunities emerge.
