SETTING THE RECORDS STRAIGHT ON THE PROPOSED ARCHDIOCESE OF ORON AND THE COLLECTIVE EFFORT OF FACILITATORS

The proposed Archdiocese of Oron has been a topic of discussion and debate within the Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Oron. As the process unfolds, it's essential to set the records straight and acknowledge the collective effort of the pacesetters and facilitators who have worked tirelessly to bring this vision to fruition.

Contrary to perceptions of a one-man show, the journey towards the proposed Archdiocese of Oron has been a collaborative effort involving numerous individuals like Bishop Simeon Ekpo, Very Reverend Okon Ekerendu Rtd., Sir Esang Nsa Bassey, Bishop Sunday Akpanenua, Bishop Effiong Esedeke, Archbishop Koko-Bassey, Sir Edet Amana, and many others who have played crucial roles in facilitating this process.

On the election of an Archbishop, it's important to note that the Methodist Church Nigeria Conference is the sole authority responsible for electing an Archbishop for the proposed Oron Archdiocese. This process should be guided by the will of God, rather than personal biases, divisions, and choices.

Unfortunately, the Church is often plagued by politics, biases, and divisions. This can lead to a chaotic system, where individuals prioritize their own interests over the will of God. It's essential to recognize the damage this can cause and instead allow God's will to prevail.

As the Methodist Church Nigeria navigates this significant development, it's crucial to approach the process with unity, humility, and a willingness to follow God's guidance. By doing so, we can ensure that the proposed Archdiocese of Oron becomes a blessing to the Church and a testament to God's glory.

I'd like us to know that the proposed Archdiocese of Oron represents a significant milestone for the Methodist Church Nigeria and Oron Nation as a whole.

As we move forward, let us acknowledge the collective effort of those involved and submit to the authority of the Church Conference.

By allowing God's will to prevail, we can create a harmonious and unified Church that honours the name of God Almighty.

WHAT PASTORS DO SILENTLY...

Many Pastors are broke but church members still go to them for financial aid and support.

A significant population of students are members of the church which Pastors are spending great deal of time to mentor, teach and rebuild into proper adults.

They pray, lead many to salvation and help in nation building.

Now, you can see it isn't just about money.

Before you start to argue, I know Pastors are not perfect. They are anointed but they are also humans like us.

There's also the fact that there are a few wolves in sheep's clothing. Jesus Christ already told us about this. So, we can't lose our sleep over them.

Pastors are not God. But don't let anyone drag you into abusing a man of God.

BE ON THE PATH OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night"

~ Psalm 1:1

Be on the side of righteousness, don't let anyone drag you into sin.

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord"

THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE GIFT OF KNOWLEDGE

The spiritual gift of knowledge is also known as the “word of knowledge” or “utterance of knowledge.”

In the opening passages of 1 Corinthians, Paul spoke of knowledge and recognized that the highest form of knowledge among men is the Gospel of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 1:4-7).

So then, it is right to say that the gift of knowledge is an understanding of the things in this world and in our lives that is founded in the Gospel and rooted in the Scriptures.

This gift is closely related to the gift of wisdom which is spoken about by Paul in 1 Corinthians 1:18-31.

The Holy Spirit gives this spiritual gift to some believers to bring about understanding and to inform the church or individual believers.

The person with this gift is usually well-versed in the Scriptures and often has much committed to memory.

You can call it "Expressive Anointing" because those who are endowed with it can retain the truth and communicate it effectively at the appropriate times.

The Holy Spirit empowered knowledge allows a believer to relate the Scriptures, and particularly the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to all aspects of life in this world. They can see how it connects to every situation and how the reality and truth of the Gospel is to inform every decision a Christian makes.

Today, I pray that the Holy Spirit will help us grow constantly in the knowledge of God so that we can spread His unfailing love and infallible word to the entire world.

THE MIRACLE OF COMMUNICATION...

Communication is the process of dissemination, or welcoming of messages from oneself to another individual via mutual understanding. It is deeply rooted in human behaviour and this constructs the society.

In a communication process, information is first unfolded and the sender sends this information to a receiver. Once the message is received, the receiver decodes it and provides the sender a feedback.

In any form of communication there is always a sender, a message and a receiver. There are a few kinds of communication forms like – oral which includes speech, song, and tone of voice, nonverbal which includes body language, sign language, paralanguage, touch, eye contact and writing etc.

Everyone that is involved in the communicative act is influenced by the context in which it occurs: the relationship, physical surroundings, and purpose. That is to say also that our relationship, environment and background affects the communication process and increases the probability miscommunication and misunderstandings can occur.

Therefore, we are wrong when we think of the communicative process in overly simplistic ways and also assume that when we talk we will be understood. Because, the reality is that each time we make contact with one another and manage to create highly similar meanings in each other, something wonderful has taken place.

When I talk to you and you talk to me and we understand each other, that is only but a miracle.

THE IMPORTANCE OF MORAL LEADERSHIP

Before now, getting a job basically depended on your acquired skills and academic qualifications.

But today, the story has changed. Companies now needs individuals who can match their skills and knowledge experience with moral values and the will to face the challenges of creating a more inclusive, just, and sustainable businesses.

Yesterday’s skills are simply not enough to tackle the complexities of today’s problems. You need to brace up in psychology, increase your emotional intelligence and allow your moral values to take center stage.

Today, many small and medium scale businesses, that could have grown into large scale enterprises have shut down because of mismanagement of staff.

If you have a job, maintain your integrity.
If you want a job, increase your integrity.

Morality is key to excellence.

PROTECT YOUR FAMILY

Our family life is very important to God, both in a physical sense and in a spiritual sense. The family structure was structured by God from the very beginning, as we see in Genesis 1:28, "God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.'" God's plan for creation was for men and women to marry and have children. A man and a woman would form a "one-flesh" union through marriage (Genesis 2:24), and they with their children become a family which is the essential building block of every human society.

When a family is established, family members are to be looked after and cared for. Example of such demand is when God asks Cain, "Where is Abel your brother?" Cain's response is the flippant "Am I my brother's keeper?" The implication is that, yes, Cain was expected to be Abel's keeper and vice versa.

Biblically, there is more communal sense of people and family than is generally held in Western cultures today, where citizens are more individualized than people in the Middle East and definitely more so than the people of the ancient near East. This is evident in the case of Noah and others. When God saved Noah from the flood, it wasn't an individual salvation, but a salvation for him, his wife, his sons and his sons’ wives. In other words, his family was saved (Genesis 6:18). When God called Abraham out of Haran, He called him and his family (Genesis 12:4-5). The sign of the Abrahamic covenant (circumcision) was to be applied to all males within one's household, whether they were born into the family or are part of the household servant staff (Genesis 17:12-13). In other words, God's covenant with Abraham was familial, not individual.

The importance of family can be seen in the provisions of the Mosaic covenant. For example, two of the Ten Commandments deal with maintaining the cohesiveness of the family. The fifth commandment regarding honoring parents is meant to preserve the authority of parents in family matters, and the seventh commandment prohibiting adultery protects the sanctity of marriage. From these two commandments flow all of the various other stipulations in the Mosaic Law which seek to protect marriage and the family. The health of the family was so important to God that it was codified in the national covenant of Israel.

I know some people may think that this is solely an Old Testament phenomenon. Yet, the New Testament makes many of the same commands and prohibitions. Jesus spoke on the sanctity of marriage and against frivolous divorce in Matthew 19. The Apostle Paul taught what Christian homes should look like when he gave the twin commands of "children, obey your parents" and "parents, don't provoke your children" in Ephesians 6:1-4 and Colossians 3:20-21.

Furthermore, we see similar New Testament concepts regarding the importance of family in the process of salvation in the book of Acts when on two separate occasions during Paul's second missionary journey, entire households were baptized at the conversion of one individual (Acts 16:11-15, 16:31-33).

This is one reason why accepts infant baptism, because just as the Old Testament sign of the covenant (circumcision) was applied to whole families, so also the New Testament sign of the covenant (baptism) should be applied to entire households.

The family is the most important building block to human society, and as such, it should be nurtured and protected.

GODLINESS LEADS TO EXCELLENCE...

The story of Daniel is an exemplary one that shows how due diligence and righteousness makes one excel in honor.

Look at this: "Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm" (Daniel 6:3, NKJV).

Daniel exercised great integrity and, in doing so, received the respect and affection of the powerful rulers he served. However, his honesty and loyalty to his masters never led him to compromise his faith in God.

His integrity as a man of God gained him favor with the secular world, even without compromising his faith.

Like Daniel, even under the intimidation of kings and rulers, we can remain steadfast and committed to God.

It doesn't matter whom we are dealing with or which position we find ourselves.

Even though as Christians, we are called to obey the rulers and authorities that God has put in place, treating them with respect and compassion; however, as we see from Daniel’s example, obeying God’s word must always take precedence over obeying men (Rom. 13:1–7; Acts 5:29).

As a result of his devotion, Daniel found favor with man and with God (Daniel 9:20-23).

We can do same!

THE REALITY OF DEATH...

Have you ever wondered what is death?

Have you thought about what happens to you when your obituary is announced?

Well, death is a natural phenomenon, a permanent cessation of life and all associated processes; the end of an organism's existence as an entity independent from its environment and its return to an inert, nonliving state for all living things.

It's a period where everyone losses knowledge of things and what happens around them.

Death is inevitable!

But let me ask you - how do you want people to feel when your death is announced?

How does the society remember you?
What do you think happens after death?

If your answers to these questions are not clear and positive expectations, then you have been given a new opportunity to rewrite your story.

Don't forget, this is a reminder - your reality check. There's a time where your life will be gone.

A time to die!
